Update @ 1845: Musharaff gives press statement on elections
Musharaff just gave out a press statement on elections, his removal of uniform and the selection of an election date, which is being streamed in by ARYOne TV:
We must understand why it’s like this, because there are provincial assemblies, one of them completing on the 24th of November, another on the 28th of November and the third on 10th december while the National Assembly finished on the 15th of November.
So should we have elections differently for provincial aseemblies and another for the National Assembly? No we should not, we are looking at a date, there’s Muharram and we will avoid that period but we must calculate all this and we will hold elections before Feb 2008.
On the issue of uniform which is 3rd stage of transition. The Supreme Court has to decide when they can notify us about this decision and when they allow that notification, I can take oath as president, and take off my uniform as I have been saying since the past 2 months and I have never been in doubt.
I am on record for saying all these things, and elections must be held as soon as possible, elections must be held before 15th Feb 2008 at the latest.
