Ali Ahmed Kurd yesterday won the elections of the Supreme court Bar Association with a landslide victory uprooting Mohammed Zafar. After the landslide victory Kurd and his entire panel will replace the team of Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, and hopefully continue the aggressive campaign for the independence of judiciary.
Ali Ahmed Kurd clinched a thumping majority of Kurd bagged 1,052 votes out of a total of 1,724 votes. His rival Muhammad Zafar, the nominee of the Peoples Lawyers Forum (PLF) and openly backed by Attorney General Sardar Mohammad Latif Khan Khosa, former attorney general Malik Mohammad Qayyum and Ashraf Wahla group, could secure only 220 votes in Lahore
For the people supporting the rule of law and the independence of Judiciary over the last two years this is definitely a moment of hope to witness that many lawyers still support the movement despite all the negativity over the last years and attempts by many smaller faction to create a rift within the SCBA.

Its the defeat of PPP under Zardari. Just on my way to office Mr Stupid asked me will PPP review her policy regarding judges issues after the defeat of PPF? I asked, given the political history of pakistan, i would say NO.
however its the new energy for pakistanis struggling for the independence of judiciary and rule of Law.

This is all about politics, politicians, their policies are absolutely corrupt including military and juju-judiciary.
His election is unfortunate. I very much question his credentials as a lawyer. He is a third class lawyer and I am sure that bar association will regret this decision in coming days.
The election and its results were similar to the referendum held under musharraf regime. since mushi was in power he had the control on results. similarly, since Kurd was in administrative control of SC, he was elected with manipulated results.
They will regret his election as SCBA president just as the nation regrets electing Zardari as the godfather of the nation. Kurd needs to be in the Psychiatry ward.

(Aitezaz) and a bad harmonium player cum gumby Kurd thinks they have reinstated the droopy eye one (Iftikhar Chaudry of Gujrat and Nawaz). As someone who supported their cause they should accept that parliament is supreme although PPP should seriously try to sort the problem out as it’s a cracker waiting to explode and the anti-demoratic forces like Nawaz Sharif and Na-Pak Fauj will use IFTIKHAR to bring down PPP government some-time in the future.

Nawaz Sharif received Rs. 3.5 million apart from the couple of million dollars from Osama Bin Laden – Mir Afzal 10 million, Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi 5 million, Jam Sadiq Ali 5 million, Mohammed Khan Junejo 2.5 million, Pir Pagaro 2 million, Abdul Hafeez Pirzada 3 million, Yusuf Haroon 5 million [he confirms having received this for Altaf Hussain of the MQM], Muzaffar Hussain Shah 0.3 million, Abida Hussain 1 million, Humayun Marri 5.4 million. Sherpao For Election 5,00,000; Anwar Saifullah for MBL deposit 15,00,000; Farooq Leghari PO Issued 1,50,00,000. Another 1,50,00,000 paid through Bank. There are a host of other political figures who received funds like Liaquat Jatoi, Imtiaz Sheikh.” Khar 2 million, Hafeez Pirzada 3 million, Sarwar Cheema 0.5 million and Mairaj Khalid 0.2 million.

for someone who is living overseas for the last 10 years, albeit very close to my roots in the north of pakistan, i am livid to see some of the silly arguments.
do you all realise the land of pure is on the brink of collapse and our poor ppl (and I am referring to more than 80% of the popuation who lives in the rurals areas).
