TEDIndia invites TED Fellows applications from Pakistan

TED IndiaFor those who have been dotting the internet arena for sometime must have bumped across one or more inspirational presentations on TED.com. Only recently Faisal Chohan had been selected as TED Fellow 2009 and it is through his efforts that we extend an open invitation to Pakistanis. The selection to this TED Fellows group is limited to bringing together some brilliant future leaders and doers from this region.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader. The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).

In November 2009 TED is expanding its borders to India to host TEDIndia and it seeks to invite 100 select members as TEDIndia Fellows. TED fellows program is focused on getting together the world’s future leaders to get inspiration from current leaders of the world. The TED Fellows program is designed to bring together young world-changers and trailblazers who have shown unusual accomplishment and exceptional courage. TED India’s focus is to get more and more candidates from Asia. So help spreading this word to as many brilliant doers in this region.

The TEDIndia Fellows program will have international representation with a distinctly South Asian majority, with approximately 75% of the Fellows representing the South Asian region, and 25% representing other regions of the world. South Asia is defined as including the countries of India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka. For the global pool, applications will also be sought from the other five target regions: Africa, Asia/Pacific, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East, with consideration to the applicants from other countries.

The program seeks remarkable thinkers and doers who have shown unusual accomplishment, exceptional courage, moral imagination and the potential to increase positive change in their respective fields. The program focuses on innovators in technology, entertainment, design, science, film, art, music, entrepreneurship and the NGO community, among other pursuits.

Considering that there is a very favorable chance for people from the South Asia region to being selected amongst the 75 openings for TEDIndia Fellow it would be beneficial for many aspiring Pakistanis to apply and quite possibly be selected as a TEDFellow.

What Do You Need To Do

You first need to carefully fill out this application form before June 15 2009, following which Faisal Chohan as a TED Fellow is on the look out for nominating some inspiring young Pakistanis to be featured in the TED program, so it wouldnt hurt to shortly introduce yourself and maybe we could help compile a list of worthy probables that he could ponder over. Lastly do help spread the word

that's awesome. I'd love to go to TED, but how does a person qualify as being capable enough to go to TEDIndia? Any guidance would be appreciated!

Imran – I thought the same, until I read this on the FAQ

    Q. I don’t think I have the slightest chance, should I still apply?

    A. If you are interested in being a TED Fellow — apply! In fact, many of our past Fellows never would have imagined receiving a Fellowship in their wildest dreams. Let us be the judge!

So technically there should be no issues in trying and seeing if it works – with the odds for TEDIndia favoring South Asia I believe there is more then a shooting chance of getting i . The onus is on YOU to prove that you are a doer and deserve a place in TEDIndia.
