Jermey Scahill talks about Blackwater on Democracy Now

blackwaterJermy Scahill, the defense analyst who recently published an article in The Nation, is interviewed by Amy Goodman on Democracy Now. Jermey Scahill says that when he was about to go to press with the article, he got some frantic calls from US Joint Chief of Staff General Mullen. He goes on to discuss the Kestral Logistics a Pakistani firm and its owner Liaquat Ali Baig having close contacts with being the front end for Blackwater’s operations in Pakistan. The numerous covert drone attacks were also analyzed. The first 20 minutes are relevant to the Blackwater controversy

Where is our own media on this issue? Americans can speak about it far away and unaffected by the atrocities committed by Blackwater. Our own media is not running the awareness campaign they ought to. It is their damn duty to wake up and show some guts. Until further I have only seen the likes of Shireen Mazari speaking on this issue. Where are all the other rabbits?

We disagree when you say that our Pakistani media is silent on the crimes of Blackwater Terrorists of America. If you read Urdu newspapers, Ummat(Ummat.net), Jasarat (www.Jasarat.com) & Takbeer Weekly, you will find plenty of such articles. If you want those Urdu articles, email us at : Boycott_Slumdog_India@yahoo.com. We will soon turn these articles in the form of a website to show the details of the American terrorism to whole Pakistan.

I suppose you have some concrete proof/reason to backup your claim.

    Here are some scenarios:

    – The media is paid to shut up. Don't forget numerous greedy yellow journalists in the media and the media barons themselves (no saints either).

    – The establishment (as you mentioned)

    – The army collaborating with their Yankee masters. Drive: Dollars and other Yankee favors as f.ex. a safe haven for for themselves and their family in case they must flee. The same can be said about all the other collaborators/Trojan Horses as f.ex. politicians. Look at how they provide a safe haven for a terrorist like Altaf Hussain.

    – The politicians….no masters except the desire for money. Anyone can buy these mental prostitutes.

I fear that it's about all of the above mentioned parties doing anti-Pakistan "business" in one way or the other.

Before you reach for your pitchfork to skewer evil Americans up to no good inside Pakistan without our leadership’s knowledge — military or civilian — consider what else Scahill has reported: ‘He [a former senior Blackwater executive] said that Blackwater is also working for the Pakistani government on a subcontract with an Islamabad-based security firm that puts US Blackwater operatives on the ground with Pakistani forces in counter-terrorism operations, including house raids and border interdictions, in the North West Frontier Province and elsewhere in Pakistan.’

‘Government’ can be misleading since it implies the civilian side of the state, but the story makes it clear elsewhere who inside Pakistan is really working with Blackwater: ‘According to the executive, Blackwater works on a subcontract for Kestral Logistics, a powerful Pakistani firm, which specialises in military logistical support, private security and intelligence consulting. It is staffed with former high-ranking Pakistani army and government officials.’

so whom should we put on trial for the collaboration into murder, abduction, physical torture and mental abuse of Pakistani citizens?

Sometimes I am horrified all the conspiracy theory pamphlets I got against USA during Stop The WAr on IRaq MARCH in London all of them seems to be true and unfortunately that is happening in my Pakistan.

This is happening to some extent in all countries STATE against the citizen.

It reminds me of the film ENEMY OF THE STATE.

The level on which it is happening in Pakistan and the government is collaborating particularly the civil governments is highly sickening.

These people cannot be pardoned and must not be pardoned.

The need is we must press for investigation based on civil groups and trial and we must seek justice .So that in the name of business the people who think we are flies and can be blown away in a blast or tortured and abused for US dollars and interest should be brought to book.

It is our own responsibility to protect ourselves if Government fails to do us.

Pakistan army at this level would not collaborate against its own people.

It is an institution which is based on middle class.Generals are not born Generals like the politicians.

They are quite humane and even if they rise to General rank ,the common military person is not rich and spoiled enough to sell people.Of course exceptions are everywhere. But such a level of interaction contracts will include number of Generals and many of whom would not stay quite.

Most of army men are from rural areas.

SO Establishment if it means army ….I have huge cloud saying NO .

As far as I know they (a racist political party) has gained the right to hold a referendum by collecting 100.00 votes. Most probably the referendum will decide wether Muslims will have the right to build minaretes and that too in spite of most parties have adviced against voting for a ban.

Intolerance is wide spread in the "democratic" countries – especially against Muslims. They make laws to show Muslims that they are unwanted in their countries. Recently we have seen bans on scarfs, burka, strict laws for marriage etc., and it's NOT going to stop here. They will continue to abuse us and our socalled leaders will continue to be silent.

I dare say – though we have not democracy in Pakistan, but we have still more minority rights in Pakistan. Christians are allowed to build churches (and so it should be – we must not imitate intolerance). BUT in the west you can abuse minority rights through "democratic" procedures…..frightening.

West is not at war with Islam:

    —————————-

Have muslims not become the most intolerant people in the West.

1.Speaking about UK Muslims have objections regarding using Dogs by the police it is offensive for them.

2.Muslim woman wanted to go to college wearing Jilbab she went to High court against college when the college allowed her to come to college in Shalwar Kameez and Long coat ,head scarff.

3.Another woman has forced college to allow her to attend wearing Hijab ,change the uniform policey.

4.Yet another one wanted to be a hairdresser with the hijab.

5.The story of three little pigglets is offensive to Muslims in the nursery.

6.Now some people have complaint regarding Christmas plays or celebrations on Christmas ,that children are influenced.

    —-

before everyone starts pelting at me with stones let us rethink European countries essentially are Christian countries. We get Hallal food,Masajid everywhere.

But how much do we want to force ourselves on these people ??

Would we allow a woman wearing a jean and a Tee shirt against School college policy to study and enter .

Do we allow public drinking even to a gora at public places.

Would we allow them to have pork in our country ?

    —-

And frankly speaking they also do not expect this. Most of the people when are posted diplomatically to Islamic countries know very strictly about the social norms.

Now we the migrants force our laws on a common law.

    —–

My experience of Europe is quite different as I live in London or UK where I see alot of tolerance ,mosques,Hallal food ,restaurants and Asian bazars .and yes the mosque at White Chappel offers Azan as well.

i think this much tolerance is enough .

we have to draw the line instead of playing victims of hatred we have to see these countries tolerate honour killings ,under age marriages, hijab, fasting ,prayers .

What more do we want .

In comparison look at Saudia, gulf states,Iran would they be accommodative of Westerners in the same way.

You got the right to have the mosque ,struggle through courts and will get the minar one day .I am sure it is not all political it is just the clash of cultures .

    Dear Observer,

There is another easy way out for the Muslims residing in the West and protesting against West's Alleged Anti Islam Steps such as Minarate of the Mosques etc.etc. Instead of Boycott Switzerland products, Muslims should adopt the following:

Secular Democratic – Anglo Saxon system and Islam are two different systems and instead of perverting both [i mean mixing it] one must choose between either one of them.

If those who are living in West and enjoying Lucrative Jobs in Purely Infidel Setup and that too an Infidel Military Setup, and also talk of Islam then Quran and Hadith should be ultimate for them. They should go back to their Islamic "Home Country" and start living in Muslim Society and should sacrifice Green Bucks and Social Security.

Those who want to observe Islam, Veil and Islamic Culture should come back

It is obligatory to migrate from the kaafir lands to the Muslim lands for those who are able to do that, if they are unable to practise their religion openly.

This was obligatory at the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and remains so after his time for those who fear for their lives. All the countries you have outlined have a fair population of practicing and non-practicing Muslims.

Name the company or a brand which says it is not for Muslims.

Muslims how ever are exclusive ,they do not use the products which have used pork, from lipstick to eatables.

Chistians are our very close friends ,Najashi was the Christian King who gave asylum to the refugees of Makkah.

both believe in one God ,His books,His prophets and even nikkah of a Muslim man is accepted as per religion to a Christian woman.

In Europe and Palestine and Israel many mosques and Churches are built side by side

Lt. Gen. Shahid Aziz Lieutenant General Shahid Aziz is a retired Pakistan Army general who served as the commander of the IV Corps (Lahore) from December 2003 to October 2005. After retiring from the army, he was appointed Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau, a post he left in May 2007. His illustrious military career has placed him in pivotal posts during critical periods in Pakistan over the last decade. In 1998, he found himself involved in Pakistan’s nuclear tests as Director of Military Operations. During the Kargil conflict of 1999, he served as DG of the ISI’s Analysis Wing. That same year, he was appointed to the role of DG Military Operations where he played a crucial role in the counter-coup that brought President Musharraf to power.

      IN 2009: SHAHID AZIZ SAYS:

Lt.-Gen (retd) Shahid Aziz who, after having served as Chief of General Staff (CGS) and Corps Commdander under Gen Musharraf, was appointed Chairman of NAB, believes had he and the accountability bureau been given an opportunity to proceed against corrupt politicians and their cronies, the future of the country would have been secured. So let me quote the same Seymour on Taliban and Al-Qaeda and US CIA’s strategic manoeuvring to trap Pakistan for good.
