Dr. Aafia found Guilty – The Missing Links

Dear Awab and other friends,

I can feel Awab’s pain as someone who did follow this case so closely, and I do not mistake his patience now as anything due to lack of sensitivity. Contrary, I admire him for that.

Perhaps it would help to recap the points that were elaborated in the report ‘Don’t Blame the Victim‘ released from this forum in late 2008.

The basic stance was that in this case, a victim had been turned into the accused. That is an old tactic of patriarchy. In this case, there was not one allegations but four, and justice required that they should be addressed in the order in which they had appeared:

  1. First allegation was brought against Aafia, long, long, long ago by US authorities that she had links with Al-Qaeda. This was dropped by the US authorities. So let it go (though they can be taken into account for raising false flags)
  2. Second allegation was by international human rights group, prior to July 17, 2008, that Aafia was being held in secret prison, was unlawfully abducted and sexually tortured, and that he children had been abducted. This needed to be addressed before moving on. This allegation was AGAINST the US and allied authorities, and the most serious of all because two of those children are still missing, and could be dead.
  3. Third allegation was by US authorities that on July 17, 2008, Aafia was found to be in possession of some objectionable and dangerous material. This was, again, not brought up, so it can be dropped. But it was a counter-allegation by the “accused”, which in this case was US authorities (and Afghan and Pakistani authorities too – i do not want to sound as if I am ignoring their alleged role in this matter, but since US authorities ended up having custody of the victim, the focus naturally shifts to them)
  4. The fourth allegation was by US authorities that she fired at some US soldiers, etc. while she was being interrogated, after her alleged arrest in the event of #3. This is the only allegation on which Aafia has been tried. See, where it comes in the order?

People’s Resistance was/is not about bowing down to PUPPET JUDICIARIES. How many judges had been sworn in after Justice Chaudhry was kicked out? Was there not a replacement judiciary sitting in the Supreme Court which was “unanimous” against (y)our stand?

Yes, there should be no violence. Rather, I would say that there should not be even the thought of violence. Yet, the least we can do is to understand where we stand, and to focus on the moral victories which we have won recently. We are far from perfect, like everyone else. But like other decent nations, we too have set some golden precedents for the 21st Century, and PR has played such a major role in that. Its a new century, and we seem to have arrived here before many others. Lets keep peace for the sake of living up to our better traditions, and leaving behind our worst.

Do you think PR should do something for peace-keeping? There can be backlash, and unpleasant backlash, and perhaps if we could do something to prevent it, maybe even by way of coming up with some peaceful alternatives?

We are, after all, on the same side. Its a wonderful resource we have here.

Regards,

Khurram Ali Shafique

That is beauty in Islamic culture that when we feel helpless, we focus our all energy towards God and that are moments when we become fearless from all dangers.

Pakistan and her all kind of movements like people resistance completely lost all kind of credibility in international forum under Musharraf regime as this ruling group completely exposed Pakistan in the line of terror.

In this case even Afia family couldnt proof it that she was caught held from Karachi under Paksitan intelligence agencies.

US people are not interested what is is going on it streets.

They can only judge and view our situation what our officials and rulers bring for them.

Musharraf and his team offered theme Afia and many missing people with all kind of required proofs and our officials working in embassy and Foreign offices are abide by the orders given to them.

They cant do any thing above their level and range.

Afia return is threat to Musharraf and his colleagues who at that time made this deal at the cost of giving them missing people as few useless, and disposable citizens of Pakistan for covering up corruption of high officials and top political leaders.

She had tendency of showing extremism trends during her years in MIT.

she was married to an Arab who happens to be in Guanatanmo for no reason other than terrorism and association with Al-Qaeda and her being picked up right after Khalid Sheikh Muhammad started from Rawalpindi, disclosing her involvement in Alqaeda movement.

Her first married life was actually broken due to her deep involvement with such groups which she thought was for a cause.

So her ex husband provided necessary details to FBI on this issue.

International planners who plan war games in our region take personalities who have strong natural inclination towards their implementing techniques/procedures.

Like jihad war zia ul haq a son of mooazan having strong roots in religious set up was picked to lead Pakistan. No shia or Musharraf like general was preferred at that time so that he carried on religious mission as per his nature.

The comes post 911 period, Musharraf a son of tablechi and known to every one for his woman and drink hobbies, was picked to curb this anti extremism drives in the same region where once Zia was allocated a mission of extremism.

So aafia like personality is handpicked first due to their own inclination toward prescribed mission.

Therefore we saw that she had broken her first marriage life just for following his faith. That tells us about her overconfidence and over reaction on her acts.

We should remember that she was US citizen and on her interest she applied for it.US never forced anybody to take its citizenship. So now she is cursing US to which she even wanted to live before her arrest. So these are same kaaffar to whom we demand citizenship for excelling in fields of our desire.

US gave her best opportunities to grow in her field, even Americans and other Pakistani couldnt get so much privileges which she had.

I don't agree with such comments of people that Muslim are facing threat in US after 911.

We as Muslims living in Muslim countries like Pakistan are more vulnerable to attack, jobless or economic deprivation after 911.

I haven't seen a single family migrated back to Pakistan after 911.They all are working in their legal domain and their local governments are not showing any kind of discrimination to them.Even after seeing the devastating conditions of Paksitan, taken away their rest blood relations from here.US for last 3 years have expedited its immigration process than before but make it very expensive .

"Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s husband breaks his silence after six years"

Oh come of it! Yeah he waited six years to come out and say the whole story against Dr Aafia is as US says:

"he found her opinion towards Jihad to be of an extreme nature that sometimes made him uncomfortable. He became particularly suspicious of his wife's intentions when soon after the 9/11 attacks, she compelled Amjad to leave Boston (where Amjad was completing his residency) and move to Afghanistan where she claimed "he would be more useful"."

Did he miss anything to provide cover for each point made against her? Not one bit! Wonder why US did not call this so willing a witness — it certainly would have killed most of the controversy. Here are some more jewels:

    — since their marriage was arranged, he was unaware of Aafia's violent behaviour. "She got hysterical fits when she became angry and would physically attack me, but I put up with it for the sake of our children."

–It was here that his parents noticed Aafia's violent behaviour towards their son on several occasions, particularly when she openly asked for khula (divorce) when Amjad declined to go to Afghanistan. Therefore Amjad decided to file for a divorce as Aafia was adamant she wanted to go.

–However, after Ahmad was released and handed over to Dr Fowzia last year, Dr Amjad requested her to allow him to visit his son, but she refused. "At first she said Ahmed was mentally unfit to talk, and then claimed that he was not my son but an orphan adopted by Aafia and US reports that his DNA matched Aafia's were also 'cooked'. I refused to accept any of that as I had identified my son as soon as I saw a report on the electronic media of his arrest in Afghanistan."

–When questioned on what basis was Aafia's family denying a meeting with his son, Amjad stated that the family is punishing him for divorcing Aafia. "Aafia's mother and Dr Fowzia had warned me at the time of our divorce that they would take revenge — by not letting me meet the children"

–He added that Dr Fowzia had similarly threatened him several years ago by taking a picture of Aafia while she was asleep after she injured her upper lip (by a milk bottle) in an accident. Dr Fowzia warned Amjad that if he tried to divorce Aafia, she would use the picture against him alleging him to be an abusive husband. "It was made to appear in the picture that Aafia was badly injured. Today, the same picture is being circulated in the media to claim that Aafia was tortured for years in Bagram," he revealed.

Oh so not only Aafia but now her whole family is guilty as well and that pic of Aafia we have become so familiar with is the result of "a baby bottle accident"?

Shame on Asoora Masroor and shame on The News and shame on you for peddling such crap as 'truth'.

And if I would say to you that Mughal has provided good piece of link related to topic then you would start cursing on him.

One thing I told you through my personal observation in her case that how she had broken her marriage at the time of her pregancy and being a mother of minors. Her extreme invlovement in such circles while living in US itself is showing imbalnce in her personality.

I can assure you that no matter how ambitious a woman for her mission or profession but once she become mother, she should shift her all religious and professional priorities at all costs until her minors grow to some independent being.

Another weakness I found in her personality that if her husband who is legal father of her kids, was not cooperating with her personal affairs, she should had thought thousand times before enhancing towards such groups, just for sake of preserving her normal married life which is a precious assets for any educated and professional woman.

The British prisoners caught from the borders of Pak Afghan border during the war ended up in Gitmo ,even some were innocent and they were released without prosecution last year or so.

Musharraf recalls in his memoir, “In the Line of Fire.” Within months Kiyani had unraveled the two plots and arrested most of the participants. He was rewarded in 2004 with a promotion to chief of ISI, and the next year his agency scored big with the arrest of Abu Faraj al-Libbi, the senior Qaeda lieutenant who masterminded the attempts on Musharraf’s life. The ordeal of Mullah Zaeef By Ayaz Amir September 22, 2006
      http://www.dawn.com/weekly/ayaz/20060922.htm

To say that the account is eye-opening would be an understatement. It is harrowing and mind-blowing. Can anyone bend so low as our government did? And can behaviour be as wretched as that displayed by American military personnel into whose custody Zaeef was given? On the morning of January 2, 2002, three officials of a secret agency arrived at Zaeef’s house in Islamabad with this message: “Your Excellency, you are no more excellency.” One of them said, no one can resist American power, or words to that effect. “America wants to question you. We are going to hand you over to the Americans so that their purpose is served and Pakistan is saved from a big danger.” Zaeef could have been forgiven for feeling stunned. From the “guardians of Islam” this was the last thing that he expected, that for the sake of a few “coins” (his words) he would be delivered as a “gift” to the Americans.

Under heavy escort he was taken to Peshawar, kept there for a few days and then pushed into his nightmare. Blindfolded and handcuffed, he was driven to a place where a helicopter was waiting, its engines running. Someone said, “Khuda hafiz” (God preserve you). There were some people speaking in English. “Suddenly I was pounced upon and flung on the ground, kicked and pummelled from all sides. So sudden was the attack that I was dumbfounded… My blindfold slipping, I saw a line of Pakistani soldiers to one side and some vehicles including one with a flag…My clothes were stripped from my body and I was naked but ‘my former friends’ kept watching the spectacle. The locks on their lips I can never forget… The (Pakistani) officers present there could at least have said he is our guest, in our presence don’t treat him like this. Even in my grave I will not be able to forget that scene.” Did the Pakistani officers present at the scene of Zaeef’s humiliation feel nothing when the Americans were laying into him? Did the thought not cross their minds that more than Zaeef’s humiliation it was their humiliation? And who was the senior officer, with a flag on his jeep? My course-mate Ehsan — 41st PMA — was then heading ISI, the organization in overall command of such sensitive matters. Maybe he throws some light on this incident if he sits down to write his memoirs.

"educated people just don’t behave in such a manner in court specially when their life depends on it!"

I would like to see you "behave properly" if you were tortured, held captive, shot, molested and didn't know the whereabouts of your children. Maybe you would have been mad by now!

You are quite right that people caught somewhere else and showed on some other places.

It is game of double and triple plans.

Lal mosque violent attack was also episode of same horror movies where lot of scenes have been created to brain wash public.

Police officers here in Islamabad were sure that army management was well informed who were actually with aziz brothers at that time.Due to mess of out of control students of lal mosque, it was unavoidable for them to further hide them in this under ground cell which was all time used as hideouts of Afghan jihadis under ISI.

Sheikh Mohammed might be hidden here and then planted somewhere else for putting trouble to another opponent.

In recent parade land incident inquiry same techniques of investigation for framing other opponents are being used, making the position of Intelligence agencies very suspicious.

I witnessed that Mualana abdul aziz of lal mosque was kept in guest houses of Bahria town Islamabad under protection of malik riaz personal guards and federal people.

No authentic charge sheet was provided when he was produced in court and sooner he got bailed he was sent to Saudia for Umrrah purpose. That is why we all saw that not a single comment he made against Musharraf and army after getting bail who brutally raided his mosques and killed many along with his brother and mother.

We have been trapped by our own plans/ people whom we gave immense power to rule us and obey US.

For which act I feel shame.

She was an American citizen and before her arrest she was planning to move back to US with her kids.

She was privileged citizen of US .

What ever is being done to my country like drone attacks, chopping of poor tribal people, suicidal blasts on the name of different experiments of war on terror are more horrible than her case.

Her all family has an excess in US even her brother is comfortably living and practicing well in Houston.

Our Ex COAS under MI made her extradition possible in smooth way.

Present COAS kiayni at that moment was ISI senior man who also contributed in her exit.

Govt is trying to avoid her case and haqqani who is also ex JAMMATI like her has no courage to take some daring stance on this verdict.

So why I feel shame in her case? unclear situation for me under your remarks!

So now you are preparing for political missile attack on me by segregating me in your defined"pipliay" parameter.

As I cant reach the background of your taunt so holding my response till further attack.

By the way environmental science is also my area of interest and it is my conssitent stand for many years that now we don't need any further mosques and that area should be allocated for recycling waste water and garbage handling units .

    Dear Ms. Nazia,

My only objection is the Loss of Innocent Human Life. Lal Masjid episode was a bait Musharraf used to divert the attention.

How Ghazi brothers got hold of seminaries By Umar Cheema

    Sunday, July 08, 2007, Jamadi-us-sani 22, 1428 A.H. http://thenews.jang.com.pk/daily_detail.asp?id=63

ISLAMABAD: There is a general misconception that the Lal Masjid clerics who are making the headlines nowadays owe their 'glory' to the blessings of intelligence agencies. The facts tell a different story. It would be interesting to know how Maulana Abdullah, the late father of the Ghazi Brothers 'maneuvered' to get the Khitabat of Lal Masjid and Jamia Faridia. Equally interesting would be to know why masjid and madrasah were respectively named as Lal Masjid and Jamia Faridia. It was the late Field Marshal Ayub Khan, the country's first military ruler, who got appointed late Maulana Abdullah as the prayer leader of Lal Masjid, on the advice of his spiritual guide, Pir Sahib of Deval Sharif.

Pakistan: Trouble in the mosque By Syed Saleem Shahzad South Asia Apr 12, 2007

    http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/ID12Df03….

    http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/ID12Df04….

The brothers come from Balochistan province's Mari tribe, which is the most active component of the ongoing Baloch insurgency. Maulana Abdullah was known for his critical speeches in Friday prayers, even against the late president Zia ul-Haq, who provided Maulana Abdullah with the land in the most expensive sector of Islamabad to construct Jamia Fareedia. The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was widely blamed for Maulana Abdullah's killing.

Maulana Abdullah was a highly respected figure, known for his piety, knowledge and struggle for an Islamic way of life. Many top generals and bureaucrats attended his Friday prayers. These included disgraced nuclear scientist Abdul Qadeer Khan, who frequently contributed to the needs of seminary by donating books, food and construction material.

The government wanted the brothers arrested, but then-federal minister for religious affairs and son of former president Zia Ejaz ul-Haq, who was very close to the brothers, intervened. He became guarantor on behalf of the state that if Rasheed surrendered for interrogations to an intelligence agency of the armed forces and if no evidence came out, he would be cleared of all charges. "Before going into custody I made it clear to Ejaz ul-Haq that I had met everybody, including Osama, [Taliban leader] Mullah Omar [and] Dr Ayman al-Zawahiri and that many wanted figures did come to Lal Masjid because it is a mosque and anybody can come to this place. So any evidence of terror should be other than that. Ejaz ul-Haq agreed, and then I was handed over to intelligence, " Rasheed told Asia Times Online in a recent interview.

    Loss of human citizens??

Who cares, who bothers about drone and missiles attacks or planted bombing in congested civilian areas.

It has become fate of our our innocent, ignorant but highly emotional citizens that they had and would be used as prey of experiments of establishments until we wouldn't be able rehabilitate our strong human laws.

Go to our history first Biharis, then mqm workers and now Taliban all have same kind of motives.State under cover machinery supported and supplied arms to them for some political and military purposes and after use ,discarded like disposable materials in incinerator.

All has common thing that most of leadership of such resistances is all time secured or given safe passage to other destination.

Links of Ijaz ul haq with both clerics of Lal Mosque was known to all police officers of Islamabad. Two time those clerics were caught red handed with illegal arms in their vehicles. It was Ijaz ul haq who came and rescued him from police custody.

So it is surprise for me that their father was against Zia ul haq.Since the time of zia that mosques and medressah got full funding from religious affairs ministry.

The goal of this religious helm was same to bring the siblings of deprived class from underdeveloped areas here and keep on brain washing for some specific purposes.

You can also judge its ambiguity that even all orders of attack was done by Musharraf but not a single FIR was written against him.

Army is still fully backing the mission of war on terror and they are doing their best to clear the crime slate of ex boss at all costs. That is why not a single person of PPP even sitting on top seats has any courage to file a FIR against their Shaheed BIBI.

So these people would be killed and killed until this fever of militarism would be treated with disciplined civilian force.

I wouldn't recommend to tear down existing mosques since it can create unnecessary noise/unrest. I would rather plan construction of new mosques according to what is needed.

    Off topic:

"By the way environmental science is also my area of interest and it is my consistent stand for many years that now we don’t need any further mosques and that area should be allocated for recycling waste water and garbage handling units ."

Are you sure that it's a good idea to have these recycling waste water and garbage handling units in the middle of residential areas? To me it seems like a VERY bad idea!

  35. Nazia Avatar

The mosque which can not promote, brotherhood, equality and harmony in the areas should be tear down.

Our country and its mosques have developed wrong concept of religion which is only promoting extremism and hatred among all settled communities. Now we have many sunni, Ahle bait, hadees, shia mosques and hardly found any mosque for a real momin. One Azzan is repeated many times as other sect is not in mood of listening the sound coming from mosque of different sect.

Go and watch nearby mosques located in less posh areas.Piles of garbage can be seen around our worship places.

Drain smell is felt while praying or living in small houses or passing from streets.

So muslman must know that cleanliness is half of your faith so why not cover this half faith by cleaning the whole mess.

Garbage handling units and waste treatment plants don't cover a wide area and we need only positive intention to build it in all vicinities, no matter on the land of mosque too.
