It has come as a serious shock to hear that Dr. Ayyaz Khan, the Head of Department at Sheikh Zaid Hospital’s Dental Department and a highly respected leader in Community Dentistry with a number of professional research papers to his name, has gone missing for the past few days. He was working as a consultant of Community Dentistry Riphah Islamic International University. Initially there were five doctors were apparently been kidnapped on April 5th in the UAE, two of whom have returned but refuse to say anything about the issue.
Dr. Ayyaz Khan’s family issued a press statement yesterday in Lahore stating the doctors were not involved in any suspicious activity. “Dr Khan’s disappearance has not even been acknowledged by the Government of Pakistan. We appeal to the two governments to provide us information regarding Dr Ayyaz and other dentists as a matter of urgency and facilitate their quick and immediate release. It defies belief that such an eminent teacher and academic could go missing in the UAE under such suspicious circumstances”
Touseef Ikram of Paksatire has drawn a cartoon on yours truly, with the raging twitter phenomenon this new keyword Dent-twit-tics rings true. Thank God the twitter fanaticsm has still not reached the dental chair to an extent that my twitter world has yet to see me twittering while I perform Dentistry upon my patients at Alvi Dental Hospital – but one can never predict the future…
it was only today that I had the misfortune to treat Faisal Kapadia and he was literally twittering and photoblogging while I was hard at work on his pan stained teeth [imagine the crap and torture that we poor dentists have to go through]

It is just being reported that today late at night the rangers have finally been able to registered an FIR against Dr. Riaz for allegedly assaulting a Rangers officer (FIR # 73-08 Riaz Ahmed vs Anwar ul Haq at Mubina Town Police Station). The source is also reporting that just a few hours earlier (11:00pm) today Dr. Riaz suffered nausea and vomiting and was immediately rushed to the hospital and the doctors on duty have advised him an extensive CT scan which at 3:00pm is still underway. It is likely the Nausea and vomiting may have something to do with the extensive injury he received to his head after the battering served to him by the Rangers
A careful analysis of the situation has slowly developed. It all started on the afternoon of the 31st March where two student groups, which have surprisingly remained unnamed in the media [APMSO & PSF] [Student wings of MQM and PPP] had in effect a territory war on Karachi University. Sources say that it started off in the usual way [leave my girl friend alone argument] but developed into a bull blown battle. To control the deteriorating situation the University instructed the on duty Rangers to seal the campus preventing anyone to enter the premises, essentially to prevent the build up of supporters of the rival gangs from outside.
NOTE: One graphic picture after the jump please proceed carefully

Pakistan Peoples Party may have selected their interim Prime Minister, but his closet is full of some scary skeletons. A few may have laid eyes on this YouTube video posted a year back showing this ‘to-be’ prime minister innocently doodling Sherry Rehman. For a few it may be an ‘accidental’ grope but I would in turn say ‘Watch out ladies, Prime Minister BoobPress Gilani is about to accede the throne – Run
Sadly does Pakistan only have womanizing corrupt gentlemen like these to represent us globally – and let not forget that three months later we await the arrival of the ‘king of kings’ Mr Asif Ali Zardari – God help us – but heck didn’t we just have an [bite my tongue] NRO-influenced democracy!!
Yesterday in a funny yet serious incident youtube was knocked off-line for over two hours and in a comedy of events the blame goes squarely on our beloved Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and their attempt to censor the offending video of the Dutch (Right-Wing) Politician Geert Wilders. Yesterday we had reported that the offending video has been removed from YouTube but somehow PTCL contributed to a hijack of the IP of YouTube, and published it – via PCCW – leading to whole YouTube collapse
On Pakistan end, YouTube is still blocked.
David Ulevitch of OpenDNS believes that “Pakistan Telecom has decided to (accidentally probably) hijack their IP address space”. By blocking YouTube IP addresses internally led to ISPs blocking the site globally.

AN OPEN LETTER TO: (PDF Available for Download)
The President of the European Parliament, Brussels.
The President of France, Paris.
The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, London.
Ms. Condaleeza Rice, Secretary of State, United States of America
Professor Klaus Schwab, World Economic Forum, Geneva.
All through their respective Ambassodors, High Commissioners and representatives.
I am the Chief Justice of Pakistan presently detained in my residence since November 3, 2007 pursuant to some verbal, and unspecified, order passed by General Musharraf.
I have found it necessary to write to you, and others, because during his recent visits to Brussels, Paris, Davos and London General Musharraf has slandered me, and my colleagues, with impunity in press conferences and other addresses and meetings. In addition he has widely distributed, among those whom he has met, a slanderous document (hereinafter the Document) entitled: “PROFILE OF THE FORMER CHIEF JUSTICE OF PAKISTAN. I might have let this go unresponded but the Document, unfortunately, is such an outrage that, with respect, it is surprising that a person claiming to be head of state should fall to such depths as to circulate such calumny against the Chief Justice of his own country.

Carry a placard “Release Justice Rana Bhagwandas and you will be thrown into the slammer. FIR No.13/08 lodged at the Clifton Town police station confirms the highhandedness of Musharrafs despotic regime.
Justice Rana Bhagwandas started his judicial career as a civil judge at the age of 24. In 1994 he was elevated to the high court and then to the Supreme Court where he eventually became the senior-most judge, serving as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan, whenever the Chief Justice was out of the country. He earned the reputation of hard work, dedication, clear thinking, impartiality and fairness. Upon retirement it has been the practice of the court to give the retiring judge a Full Court Reference, but in the building that now reminds one of the Supreme Court, traditions too have been banished.
On Nov 3, 2007, Justice Bhagwandas the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court was illegally incarcerated. After his retirement he was made a prisoner in his own home in Karachi. He caused offence because he did not break his oath to “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan when another was grinding his boot into it. “The people should fight for the law as for their city wall (Heraclitus, 5th century BC).

In the past few weeks the Election Commission of Pakistan had hired the services of a certain Mr. Hayee Bokhari of Cronomagic Canada Inc, a data warehouse, to electronically host Pakistan’s election lists in safe custody under hacker proof conditions, on the face of it, it sounds honest enough, but probing a little further armed with the interview published by Canada.com of the company reveals some interesting and eye-opening flaws.
It must be mentioned that the list containing the 80 Million names of all Pakistanis eligible to vote generally does carry all our sensitive and personal information, ranging from our names, ages, home addresses, parental information and most importantly our ID Card number, if not anything else, simply said enough information to be a security risk. Paranoid as I might be all such information must be protected by the Government of Pakistan and ensured that it must never fall into the wrong hands, let alone transfer the data across the world via the Internet to a software house located in Montreal, try as much as you might, the Internet is considered highly insecure regardless of any number of security levels one might use, it is all crackable at many points along the route and definitely prone to data monitoring & mining. We all know that NSA does not hide the fact that it does data mining of all traffic going in and out of North America despite the attempt to block them in 2003 but I am certain that due to the sensitive nature of Pakistan practically all information coming out of Pakistan will definitely get ‘mined’ to help collect information for their efforts on the War on Terror in this region
I am quite sure that our local IT industry is not ‘that’ inept that we cannot host this information locally within our own secure premises which could be under the full control of the Government, heck it just requires a few good servers and a good firewall to keep hackers out and does not requires a braniac in Canada to figure this out. In all honesty I feel this is sensitive country information which should be housed and protected within the confines of our own territory, not handed over to some company housed in a foreign land in god knows where.

An article written by Javed Siddique in The Nation titled ‘Former CJ was corrupt‘ gives an interesting insight into how Musharraf believed that an elaborate conspiracy was being hatched to unseat him from the throne of the President of Pakistan. At first I wanted to leave the full contents of the article intact without any editing, but the more I read it, I get the urge to comment on each specific issue as my own rebuttal to all this hogwash. The rebuttal is being clearly demarcated in [italic parenthesis]
Article orginally written for The Nation by Javed Siddique titled ‘Former CJ was corrupt‘
President Pervez Musharraf has said that besides former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice (R) Khalilur Rehman Ramday, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Nawaz Sharif were involved in the conspiracy to block his way to become a constitutionally elected President. He said this while addressing the 18th Annual Banquet of the Pakistani American Public Affairs Committee (PAK-PAC) and its Board of Directors here [Islamabad] at a local hotel on Wednesday. President Musharraf claimed that Justice (R) Ramday and Aitzaz Ahsan held meeting in Geneva. “Today I want to disclose as to what conspiracy was being hatched to sidetrack democracy. [Hallelujah, pray tell us *looking onwards with a twinkle in the eyes anticipating for some juicy gossip*] He alleged that Justice (R) Ifthikhar was at the centre of this conspiracy. […geez is that all you got for us!!!]

Dawn News reports that the President General (retired) Pervaiz Musharraf has lifted the state of emergency today only weeks before the January 8th elections, with a nurtured Judiciary, a limping media and a lap dog called ‘Democracy’ – “Yes, the emergency has been lifted, said a government official who declined to be identified !!!! [whats with all the secrecy!!!!]
It must be noted that all essential (country debilitating) items as initially prescribed under the PCO are now fully forcibly (unchallengeable) an integral part of a constitutional amendment, In all honesty (which the government refuses to highlight) only the WORD Emergency has been deleted from the vocabulary of the Government of Pakistan for now, everything else stays exactly the same.
The Judiciary as we know is non-existent instead filled to the brim with Pro-Musharraf judges, the PEMRA Ordinance continues to control all TV channels with an iron-clad grip for any anti-government propaganda [sorry its officially called objectionable material], with the NRO in effect Benazir Bhutto heaves a sigh of relief finally whitewashed of her corruption sins while simultaneously over 1300 proven MQM convicted thugs walk out into the streets of Karachi (with a vengeance) to reign terror supreme on this city yet again. I assure you this is no conspiracy theory, just plain facts, albeit a few intricate details which the government ‘accidentally forgets to acknowledge or mention’

General Musharraf took over the reigns of power in 1999 from Nawaz Sharif with the Pakistan economy on the verge of bankruptcy. So desperate was the situation Nawaz Sharif toured the world visiting Pakistanis with a begging bowl requesting them to invest in Pakistan due to the sanctions imposed on Pakistan for carrying out nuclear tests. Incoherent, short-term policies had resulted in a minority of people benefiting immensely, who incidentally were directly linked to the Sharif family.
Both the IMF and the World Bank have consistently praised the Musharraf government for solid macroeconomic recovery and saving the Pakistan economy from the brink of economic collapse. They cite the $128bn generated under his tenure. Many commentators are eager to explain that the Musharraf government has made substantial macroeconomic reforms since taking over the economy in 1999. The argument of the few Musharraf loyalists being that he has brought a degree of stability to Pakistan that the country never knew under civilian rule.
Part 1 of this two part series will assess this claim and analyse the current state of Pakistan’s economy which shows it is in a far more precarious position:

General Pervaiz Musharraf has yet again is seen issuing an ordinance which says the the Emergency cannot be challenged in any court. The presidential order amends the constitution to stipulate that Musharraf’s November 3 imposition of emergency “is declared to have been validly made and “shall not be called in question in any court or forum on any ground whatsoever. All other decisions made in relation to emergency rule “shall… be deemed to be and always to have been validly made, added the order. “The presidential order issued today has ratified and validated the action taken on November 3 by the chief of army staff,
This order just goes to show that he genuinely feels insecure with everything around him, literally turning every leaf lest there be some who can strip him of his prized possession – The President of Pakistan. It could also be to negate the statement he accidentally made in an interview with an international media outlet that in his entire term he has done nothing illegal except this emergency, maybe a slip of the tongue but a statement nevertheless. All I can say God Bless Pakistan … from these power hungry maniacs
