Musharraf – Book Profit to Charity

Line of Fire

A few weeks back I was very critical of Pervez Musharraf when he started his book tour in the United States to the extent of making a statement in my post

Bomb Pakistan into the Stone Age, or else.: “I sincerely hope that the People of Pakistan see some of the royalty being submitted into our national exchequer as he is undoubtedly using his official capacity to publicize his personal book.”

These concerns were put to rest when I came across a news report where the President of Pakistan has declared that the proceeds will be given to an undisclosed charity, but on further questioning he actually revealed the actual numbers (Reuters)

Simon & Schuster gave me $250,000 of which I have already donated $90,000 but I don’t want to get into the specifics (of who the recipients are). That leaves me with $160,000. I will be getting a 15 per cent cut in royalty but we have not reached that stage yet,” Musharraf revealed. He then proceeded to elaborate on the setting up of a fund, which he proposed to call Musharraf Foundation and announced depositing the residue sum of $160,000 he had from the book into it

What can I say? … Go Buy The Book

Better give 1295 to some one needy your self instead of buying the book.

    Vey true.

If you wanna buy the book, then buy the book.

But if you want to be charitable, then give the money(or food, clothing etc) to needy yourself, or write a cheque for a charity org.

To be honest I was NOT buying the book simply on the whim that I DID NOT want my money to go into his corruption rich pockets. I agree with PPH & Fahad charity is better served if one hands it himself “assured” of the fact that it has gone to the right place.

The good news is I am still not buying the book 😉

well its not such a bad deal after all. i do remember his statement where he said that he would donate the proceeds to charity. at least we get to see the figures and the fact that he has the decency to donate the proceeds to charity. well i think a book is a good way to make money. the book was well promoted and must have made a lot. i dont think it would have made so much if he hadnt gotten to peddle it for free on national television. i myself wouldnt spend so much money on a book (mainly because i cant spare 1295. at least its cheaper than that SRK book). however its not as if we are being forced to buy the book in the first place. there will still be people who will buy the book regardless of who profits from it. a book is something which you can read to pass your time. i mean at least he has gone public with the fact that he plans to give it all to charity. if he does not deliver then we should judge them. its not as if the book delivers a message “please buy me because the proceeds will go to charity” (though i think i have made my point).

I was hoping that once you said the book was okay to buy, I could read a review of it here. Couldn’t you borrow a copy and report?
