Musharraf’s taped address to nation – Part 4

it saddens me the most that after all we have achieved in 7 years, pakistan’s upsurge taking a downward trend, i personally with all facts available to me, consider that inaction at this moment is suicide for pakistan and i can not allow this country to commit suicide. therefore, i had to take this action in order to preserve, the democratic transition which i initiated eight years back, i would like to and i have said it in urdu, i started with a 3 stage transition, from 99 to 02, where i remained in control, and then 5 years of democratic rule, i only oversaw it as chief of army staff and president and launching the 3rd stage where complete democracy returned to civil rule, it is this 3rd stage which is being subverted today, and i want to complete it and if don’t take action, i don’t know what confusion and chaos will follow. so therefore, i request you all to bear with us, to the critics and idealists against this action i would like to say, please do not expect or demand your level of democracy which yo learnt over a number of centuries, we are trying to learn and we are doing well, please don’t expect your level of civil liberties and demands you learnt over centuries, we are learning, doing, well, give s time, venture to read Abram Lincoln especially to all my listeners in US, as an idealist Abram had one passion to preserve the union, towards that end he broke laws and tampered individual liberties, his justifications were necessarily, and in 1864 wrote a letter, i quote, my oath to preserve the constitution imposed on me … end quote.

(i may have missed parts out due to typing fast and my apologies for that, i just wanted to get an English transcript out)

    Greetings.

In response to Pakistani dictator Pervez Musharraf’s declaration of martial law and illegal dismissal of a Pakistani Supreme Court Justice, I am encouraging all bloggers out there who want true democratic rule for Pakistan’s 165 million people to unite in opposition.

From now on, I am asking bloggers to consistantly refer to Musharraf as “Pakistani dictator Pervez Musharraf” consistantly linking back to a post I made explaining this idea in greater detail.

The post allows threaded comments, so that those opposed to Pakistani dictator Pervez Musharraf can start discussing ways that we can organize and unite in opposition to his dictatorial actions.

My hope is that a consistant message of opposition to martial law and support for democracy in Pakistan can help to influence the media away from legitimizing the Musharraf regime by referring to him as a President. By definition, he cannot be a President if he refuses the right for his government’s Supreme Court to decide whether his running for office is legal or not.

Please drop by the post, leave a comment as to what ideas you have on how we can best unite in opposition to martial law, and please do consider using the phrase “Pakistani dictator Pervez Musharraf”, linking back to the post.

    Thank you,
    Mark Kraft
