Petition for travel restrictions on Musharraf regime

Just Denied and Pakistani doctors in the UK has created a petition which asks the British government and the European Commission to enforce a travel ban on Musharraf, his cabinet ministers, official advisers and army generals supporting him, until they withdraw the emergency rules and restore the constitution and civil rights. The petition reads

We, the doctors working in the NHS demand Her Majestys Government of the UK and the European Commission that:

1) These actions should be condemned in clear and unequivocal terms.

2) A travel ban to the UK and EU be imposed on Musharraf , his cabinet ministers, official advisers and army generals supporting him, until they withdraw the emergency rules and restore the constitution and civil rights.

Sign on the dotted line if you agree with the petition

I am all in favor of such gestures, no matter how futile. First stratigic step would be to get UK and EU to openly and clearly reject the PCO, and throw their support squarely behind Pakistan’s deposed Supreme Court.

Travel restrictions would then be step number 5 or 15 in enforcing this rejection. First steps would be to cut off all financial ties.

So far UK or EU have no clear rejection of the illegal presidency or its hand picked Supreme Court. One may even argue that the Pakistani SC and constitution were thrashed partly because they were getting in the way of a war on terror that insists on being above all laws. UK is a junior partner in the GWOT. Lets pressure them to take a clear stand, before we ask them for travel restrictions on their own chamchas.

Where are all our startigists? I am just starting to blog on stratigic issues of Pakistan’s civil society at pakistanaffairsdesk.com.
