Kiyani & Musharraf, all seems not to well

A picture is worth a thousand words

Musharraf and Kiyani

Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Kayani and President (retired Gen and former COAS) Pervez Musharraf sit together during the missile training launch of Ghauri (Hatf V). According to analysts, their postures and body languages indicate “all’s not well” between the two. It has been reliably learnt that while President Musharraf was on his overseas tour last week, Gen Kayani had had more than one meeting with a select group of anti-Musharraf journalists at his GHQ in Rawalpindi. He told them, “Feb 18 elections are crucial” for the country.

what was discussed at these meetings?

The meetings between journalists and Army Chief were simply an effort of “image building” of Pakistan Army while Musharaf was building image of Pakistan overseas and Musharaf openly claims to enjoy the support of army, which is not a secret in eight years opression.

But, lets hope it realy happens, when two thieves fight, the benificiary is public.

Both have to work together as per instructions by US and if anybody will try to defy US orders, its fate can be like gen zia. In reality both are in trouble because mussarf wants to dictate Kiyani as his junior and holding army house after his requirement is like an insult to COAS but he is silence knowing very well that at his moment US is relying on mussarf.Mussarf before sheding his uniform had made lot of extensions and lucrative jobs for his blue boys mostly are ex generals and interesting thing Kiayni after holding his seat has terminated most of them and now group of friendly generals to mussarf are really in trouble. It means mussarf is in trouble too.He was quite right in his statements about rebellious ex genrals who are demanding resignation from him that didnt offer them lucrative posts so they have become against them.He no doubt had given free hand to top brass of army through out his tenure as COAS who helped him in 1999 coup. All his co- generals had enjoyed the state and army facilities and positions like royals. Now it is disturbing the junior breed of army that when these old men left the most lucrative posts and they are forcing Kiyani to use his absolute power that was once isolated in mussarf ‘s hand.So that is actual problem our top army is as corrupt as our top politicans but it is more shameful for us as they are wearing Pakistani uniforms and medals that were once our proud.

mush never had the support of army, just the corp commanders, they too were just acting professionally by obeying their cheif.. and in his final days many of corp commanders too were against his policies and openly disagreed and differed with him .. had he not lost the confidence of corp commanders, he would have never stepped down as CAOS.. as for Gen Ashfaq Kayani he is just waiting and contemplating his options he knows mush has done alot of damage to popularity of army and as west conspired army is up against its own people and people are up against its own army.. definately this is a dangerous and complex situation which needs to be dealt with rationality..

Body language of both or an in depth analysis of their inner shows a wide range of difference between both of them. I had personally heard from one of Journalist belongs to a well known Media Channel ” Bas thoray hee din hean, Kiyani Musharaf ko giraftar kar lay ga” i don’t know that journalist’s source but off course he must have delivered words circulating among Journalist community.

Poor Pakistanis drowning and trying to clutch every straw that they can lay their hands upon to save themselves. My dear countrymen, can’t you see it is Gen Kayani who has been hand picked by USA for the slot of the COAS? Remember when John Negropontea visited Pakistan last, he had met Gen Kayani specially when he was just Vice Chief of army Staff. Could not not one see the reason why he did so? In fact it was a signal to Musharraf that as far as Pak army was concerned, US then wanted to talk to Gen Kayani and not Mushrraf. Telling him thus that he should resign. So Musharraf had to oblige his masters.

Now if you think that USA has put Gen Kayani as the COAS to look after the interests of Pakistan then you may think so. However Allah is all Supreme and Pwerfull and all matters return to Him for Disposal. He SWT May change the heart of Gen Kayani Insha Allah and he can only work to serve the interest of Pakistan only.
And Pakistan’s interest is not in continue to fight US war on terror against its own people. Even a layman can see that now.

So the day Gen Kayani has the courage to declare that we will not be fighting the war anymore against our own people but will negotiate with them, then we can say that he is working for the interest of Pakistan. Till then????
With Gen Musharraf in chair it is difficult for Gen Kayani tpo take such a stance because he will then dismiss Gen Kayani on the order of his masters. Therefore, to be safe he will somehow ensure that Musharraf is no more there in the office of the President. That is the only way out for Gen Kayani to be safe to act freely.

If General Kayani acts against Musharraf, he will be perpetuating the wrongdoings of army generals. The most utopian idea for Pakistan is for Army generals to forget politics for next several decades.

currently Mush has legal power to sack/replace the COAS,but then Nawaz also was legally entitled to sack and replace Mush as CAOS.. so the bottom line is that Army alway have an upper hand..

As a former student of history and political sciences, I have read much about dictators in world history, and I personally think Musharraf is the coolest of all dictators, so much so that the media, the press, and the politicians (even those with zero ranking like Playboy Khan of Mr. Asghar Khan) are free to speak against him. Try this in China, N. Korea, Iran, Syria, or even bright democracies like Austria and Germany (the holocaust issue for example), and find yourself 6 feet above or below ground.
Those hoping that Kayani would take over should gather enough oxygen for themselves to last a few more days, because Kayani would not just “do teen tikka do to achha hai” but would actually shred those who would go out in streets against him, as is or had been the way of the dictators (whether democratically elected like Mr. Z.A.Bhutto, B.B. or Nawaz Sharif, or taking over like Gen. Zia) There will be blood and there would be silence. Musharraf’s weakness is that he is a Mohajir, and so he is careful and restrained even more than the “democratically” elected leaders. This weakess does not lie with Kayani.

About the pic: What should they do? Kiss each other to make you believe that they are the two sides of the same coin? ( Though Kayani seems to be the trigger-friendly twin of Mr. Musharraf)

Unaiza, you are absolutely right! Well said. It just amazes me how some people can make sweeping analysis based on one picture capturing a seconds duration. The problem in Pakistan is precisely this: deep seated conspiratorial mindset and the desire to draw amazing inferences from innocent details, pictures and comments.

Even if Musharraf and Kiyani were kissing and making out, to convince these people that things between them were cool, we would still be witnessing silly insinuations about the two.

Not only that, but these people are incapable of thinking straight. They are desperately praying and hoping for a confrontation to emerge between Musharraf and Kiyani, not realizing how much damage this would cause for the nation.

Musharraf’s main weakness is indeed that he is a muhajir. This is what these racist people cannot tolerate. Musharraf has done amazing work for Pakistan, particularly its economy, yet they will have none of it. Sometimes I feel that our people do not deserve to have a good leader, they deserve to have duffers such as N. Sharif to rule over them who would have no freedom of speech and nothing, who will become amir ul munineen and kill whoever dares oppose him.

Let’s not fall for this. I do not care if two Generals are cooling off to each other. It does not make a difference to my life and rights and my future. They are all the same; brutal and power hungry. I do not want another General no what ever how “professional soldier” he is. They all were called professional before they took over and the rest is history. There is no substitute for democracy. Period!

No more Generals. The Army ‘s job is NOT governance, and like Laila said, it doesn’t matter how professional or well meaning someone is.

Power corrupts the best of men, let alone a military dictator. The day the Godforsaken people of Pakistan wake up to the fact that institutions are more important than people will probably be the day we at least try and head in the right direction.

    No More Generals.

The guys who call mussarf is the best choice in Pakistan are either direct beneficery of army rule or still believe in slave master culture in our society. Two genarals of equal power would always collide as it is tht principle of nature. In case of kiayni and mussarf, the driving force is US and they would follow the orders of US masters as our army top brass have already made our nation a slave to US dollars and defence technology. For achieving love with US they have made enemy to all neighbours and even the dormant tribal belt is showing aggresive behaviour.Any body before praisng to Mussarf must go to streets of Pakistan any where and he would surly conclude that at this moment he is the most abused character in our society. This is not because any compagian was held against him.It was all happened by his own deeds because our society is now deprived of basic civic security, necessary food items and essentail commodities like power and gas. This is called extreme mismangement of any ruler and mussarf could nt avoid such criticism as he is fully responsible of all matters for last 9 years.

nazia, you have just proved that you are dictatorial in your way of thinking and an intolerant person because for you no one can ever genuinely disagree with your position. It is as if the laws of physics cannot allow someone to honestly disagree with your viewpoint and if you do encounter someone who disagrees with you, then you will merely abuse them, heaping allegations of being “direct beneficery [sic]” of the army and for having a “slave master culture” in society. You are merely a representative of the dirty politics of Pakistan of the 80’s and 90’s (and before that) which, in turn, created a garbagy brain-dead culture among people to believe that there can be no opposing views.

Now to correct your disinformation and lies. 1. We do not have “two generals of equal power” in Pakistan. In case you have lost all IQ in a recent tragic event, let me inform you that we have ONE (aik) army general (Kiyani) whereas Musharraf is now a CIVILLIAN President. Civillian = not army. Perhaps you missed the news that Musharraf retired from the army and command was given to Gen. Kiyani. So glad to update you 🙂

    2. your assertion of the US being the “driving force” behind the two is nothing more than a popular polemic and a common style of taunt used by people who are incapable of making reasonable arguments. It is only rhetoric which people scream when in anger. It is very easy to toss such claims. What makes the allegation all the more absurd is the fact that no one in Pakistan has spoken against the US as harshly as Musharraf and no one in Pakistan has opposed the US as many times as Musharraf. WHOEVER you have in power in Pakistan, be it the PPP, PML-N, MNA, PTI, they will ALL would have walked the American line more or less. Realistically speaking, it is absurd to follow a policy which is on a head on collision with the US. Afterall, compared to the US, we are a relatively weaker nation and, thus, need to accept some pressures. A leader with commonsense and intelligence will not blindly follow the US, nor blindly oppose them, but walk the middle-path. The only leader who has done this is Musharraf. If we, God forbid, had N. Sharif, BB, Zardari, Bilawal, I. Khan, Fazul-urRahman in power, they would be almost BLINDLY following the US. That these people are firmly in the camp of the US, despite their occasional public rhetoric, can be seen from the fact of their very cosy relationships with the US officials and their frequent appeals to the US to pressurise Musharraf (particularly during the emergency saga). Musharraf, in contrast, has acted cleverly and wisely in the interests of Pakistan.

The ironic (and comical) part is that you launch unsubstantiated allegations against Musharraf which actually fit your beloved “democrats” like a glove!

    3. Pakistan has made an “enemy” of “all neighbours”? This is a blatant lie. Pakistan enjoys good relations with its neighbours in general, with relations improving with India, very good relations with China, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bengladish, the central Asian nations, but troubled relations with Afghanistan. But you see your N. Sharif almost ruined relations with Saudi Arabia since he is a habitual liar. God forbid, if he ever returns to power to loot the nation again, imagine the humiliations Pakistanis would face from Saudi Arabia!

    4. The so-called “dormant” tribal belt is where extremism and terrorism lies. They were quite before because no one stopped them. Natually, if you oppose terrorism and extremism then you will get a reaction from the ones who support these dirty acts. By large, however, things are under control in the tribal regions. Only some elements are creating trouble and it is in Pakistan’s interest to eliminate them.

    5. Musharraf being the “most abused character” in the streets of Pakistan may or may not be correct, but true: many do abuse him. I have seen this in person and on my TV screen. What does this mean? It means that many of our people, if not all, have no decency of character. They are, in character, as rotten as bad-mouthed individuals such as N.Sharif, I Khan, the so-called “lawyers” (most vile in language). Nazia, you seem to be a part of this crowd. It is sad that someone who has done so much for Pakistan is being viciously abused in this lowly and unIslamic manner. But doing so only exposes their true nature and character.

    6. You are telling more bald-faced lies about the Pakistani society being “deprived” from “necessary food items”. Don’t try to act smart. You can’t get away telling such lies since you arent the only one who travels to Pakistan, or lives there, or has family living throughout Pakistan. Another lie of yours is the claim that people are deprived from “basic civic security”…what on earth does this mean? Are you serious? And do you have any idea about the actual issue of power and gas, how it emerged, whats being done about it, the work done (the lack thereof) by N.S, BB, and others in the past? I don’t think so!

All you can produce in anger is venom, hate, and a serious of factually erroneous assertions.

  17. Laila Ahmed Avatar

N.S. Please do refer to history. Yayha Khan was considered a professional soldier before he took over. He lost half the country after that gruesome massacre in East Pakistan. Zia ul Haq was considered a loyal and professional soldier and he gave drugs and klshinikov culture and jihadi terrorists and destroyed civil society. Musharraf was considered a great comando and he sold Pakistan to the U.S. Do you know understand why we DO NOT NEED “Professional soldiers.”? We need a stable system called democracy like in India. It is not perfect (India had a lot of corrupt prime ministers) but it ensures long term development of institutions.

    TO MS:
I have really enjoyed yours blind love for mussarf and its unseen wisdom. I am trying to clarify yours miscalculation about my observations.

-I have never idealised any so called top politicians as my ideal ruler but it is not disappointment and surprise that mussarf with all his absolute powers for never penalised or could prove any such politicans as declared crimianl .He drove them as per his requirement and used them as per his need. Now all can see that these corrupt politcians are roaming on streets freely and our judges and mediamen are fired or lockedup. It is typical culture of army mafia and we are not surprised.
-Mussarf is holding top seat as he is a pure ex army general who has full support from army and US.As long as US want his positon ,he will work no matter whole country would burn away ,they have to carry their dirty mission and at this moment mussarf is their top most tout or in civilised manner reliable ally.
-I am surprsied by your ignornace on the shortage of food commodities, and lack of sense of civic security in our society in his regime. My lines based on disaster of our civil culture under army rule is based on sharp increase of food inflation, extreme trends of street crimes along with numerous numbers of suicidal attacks on lower and middle class. No doubt if you are living in any cantonment areas you are facing no such problems .How you are not seeing the power shortages even in big cities .These are state responsibilites and his continous long rule is responsble for this power disaster.
These are facts based on realities not my personal grudges. If mussarf can afford 2 million for a night it dosnt mean we have become proseperous country. Please dont trust me and go to streets and you would find horrible realities of his mangement.
Yours weak perception about our neighbours is also interesting.
We are still not in any positon with any of your neighbours to have visa free culture.
India is your all time enemy as in this period army is active with afghan belt so they preferred good decorative relations with India. If we are friendly neighbours why our poor country is producing latest nuclear missiles on monthly basis.
China is your business partener and both need each other in trades othervise try to get china visa and you would find urs intensity of relation.Even in tragic incident of kashmir earth quake, they have supplied you aide with huge interests rate.
With Iran our general shaib(having all absolute powers of governance) is still unable to sign a sigle contract of gas line for last 5 years.
-Onething I assure u that when he took power in 1999 no doubt that we had only accepted a good mode of governance from him that could only sustain accountablity for all and reduction in corruption. But all such things are now more worst and disasterous like our weak political system.

This is in response to M.S

I want to thank u M>S for making me laugh. When you wrote “the fact that no one in Pakistan has spoken against the US as harshly as Musharraf and no one in Pakistan has opposed the US as many times as Musharraf.’ That makes me laugh at you.

You either are innocently foolish or self deceiving person. When one has sold out every thing to your master, the master sometimes gives you the right to shout because he knows the reality. And the reality remains that you are his slave. The oppertunity so provided is used to show the world full of fools like me and my brother that the slave is in fact a hero. It helps him building image among the ones to whome he is causing harm.

I hope you would have read about the protests of Mar. Karzai as well? He has been doing it on reguler basis. More than your hero the dictator Musharraf. He would be a big hero to you M.S.

Let Mush talking against USA. It does them no harm till the time his actual deeds are serving the interests of his masters. Bombing your own people, using tanks and artillery and gunship helecopters against your own apeople and area is serving the interest of Pakistan? If you think so then you must be from the school of thought of Yahya Khan of 1971 and lesser yahya of today. Military operation in East Pakistan was called by the military junta a step to save Pakistan.
Did YK-1’s military action to save Pakistan, actually saved Pakistan?
Did’nt we see the results of using force instead of a political solution?

You know why USA is afraid of a geniuine political leader coming to powerin Pakistan as a result of free & fair elections? Because then it will make the task of the masters of Mush more difficult in dictating their terms to suit their interests. Political leadership elected by the people cannot so easily ignore the public reaction and sentiments. It is always hungery of public’s liking. Why now the puppets of the dictator the choudhries are trying rid themself of the responsibility of the massacre of the lal masjid and the sacking of the CJP Mr. Iftekhar Choudhry? Becasue being political people (no matter how dirty they may be) they are now answerable to the people for their deeds.
Why are the Pervaiz Musharraf League now saying that the CJP and other judges be released? I hope you can see the difference.

Mush serves the interests of his masters well. No political part can do it better. Like Shoukat Aziz, when the role of the traitor Mus will be over, he will fly out of Pakistan to his safe heavens and we will be left all on our own to take casre of the mess (bigger than the atta, electricity and suger crisis that is the legacy of Shoukat Aziz).

We want Mush to be kicked out of govt and soon Insha Allah you will see that we succeed. If we failed, Pakistan will suffer so badly that even its existence as an indepedent sovereign state will be endangered. Even greater than its now.

To M.S, you indeed have nailed the issue at the perfect spot, and make it hurt for these genetically degenerated people who are far away from the reality, I am very sure they (Nazia, Laila, etc) Laila does talk some sense and has a valid argument in regards to the Buffoon Yahya Khan and Gen. Zia which I do agree greatly. There is no way they will ever get it.
It was and is a miscalculation on behalf of out “LEADER (The feudal lords) the conventional Pakistani leaders I am talking about, that they never allowed any prosperity brought to their areas where they get elected from and for generations, and allowed people to moved towards the urban areas and there they came to the realization of freedom and truth about life and now people with the mind set let me quote “This is Wall Street Journal. Take the example of Syeda Abida Hussain. When reminded that Mr. Musharraf has denied such accusations — saying he doesn’t assassinate people because he is “not a feudal and not a tribal” — Ms. Hussain smiled. “Poor thing, he’s a son of clerks,” she said. “His mother was just a typist.”

So our friends like nazia and others like her have this point of view that “it is a US conspiracy in having everything wrong in our country and society. It is time for the middle class of this country to rise and start claiming whats their right, these politicians will blabber for hours for the rights of us the citizens of Pakistan and how they will protect it but THEY WILL NEVER TELL US WHAT OUR RIGHTS ARE.
Lets talk about the role of the media, it is a powerful tool to educate the masses, and specially Pakistani population where we have majority illiterate, uneducated and the only way they get the information for them is what they see or hear, my question to the media is that, when they say that there is a ban or restrictions on the media, what do they exactly mean by that? Is it that they are not allowed to spread chaos in the public now? They are not allowed to have anti Pakistani discussions on their shows anymore? They are not allowed to spread only negativism in the society? Is this what they are wanting and mean by freedom of media and press???????? I have seen live what happened at one of the TV station on May 12th last year and also noticed the anchor how he twisted the reality that day and what drama he created and I also saw a little interview he gave to CNN few days ago. Now when I comment on the events of May 12th with the angle I have described above, I will be labeled as a sympathizer and a member of MQM. When will we start taking the responsibilities as a Pakistani for the things? When will the media start reporting news instead of analyzing? Giving angels to events? When will they stop coming to conclusions without investigating and passing judgments over events?

Question to friends, is this the media looks like all chained up?????????

Its really sad to see such comments, its unfortunate for Pakistan that its own people assist the external forces to remove genuine leaders. Pakistan losing Musharraf will only benefit the 3rd countries who do not want the intense prospective competition from Pakistan as a growing state. The elections have resulted in that challenge being very unlikely as the winners will be busy amassing personal wealth to leave Pakistan spiralling into debt and chaos just as they have always done in the past.
