There will be protests in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad on Thursday, May 8th 2008 for the immediate restoration of the deposed judges and for purging the judiciary free from the PCO inductees and conspirators of the Nov 3rd coup. Please come to the protest in whichever city you are based in and also inform all your friends in Pakistan.

The battle for the judiciary will go on. AZAAD ADLIYA KO BAHAAL KERO!

OUR DEMANDS

  • We demand the complete restitution of the pre-Nov. 3rd judiciary with all its powers and members.
  • We believe a simple executive order is enough to overrule the illegal actions of Musharraf. The delay is becoming unbearable.
  • We do not accept those judges who were inducted after the PCO.

Our stance is in line with the opinion of all of the lawyers and bar councils of Pakistan, 21 former judges of the Supreme Court, 5 former Chief Justices of the Supreme Court and the vast majority of Pakistanis.

Looking forward to your wholehearted participation:
People’s Resistance, Student Action Committee, Awami Jamhoori Itehad, Insani Haqooq Itehad, FAST Rising, Young Professionals Lahore, Concerned Citizens of Pakistan, and many other groups of concerned Pakistanis across the country.

A stitch in time would have saved nine but now sitution is more worst then ever. If the the Judges are restored even then it will be “HAND CUFFED RELEASE”. This might not help the poor people at all.

I really appreciate the efforts put in by you and other like you. It shows that still there is hope for Pakistan.

It would be interesting if some one can post some photographs of these scheduled protests here as well.

Why is the protest going to take place at the PPP Secretariat in Lahore. Are the Lawyers in Punjab insane. Why are they pushing PPP so much that they must rethink their coolation with Nawaz. Its right that Nawaz got all the votes for the lawyers but PPP never put this as their agenda in the elections.
What PPP is doing is only for the national reconcilaton otherwise they are not liable by any means that they should do what their partners have promised with their voters.

This struggle is not for the individuals. This is for the rule of law in our homeland. This cannot be mocked by labeling as ‘justice for the justices’.Mr. tahseen you are yet to understand spirit of this struggle. Please don’t be the part of propaganda team of Mush which has created endless confusion regarding restoration of judiciary. For the first time in our national history, civil society has risen for the rule of law. I wish for the success of this struggle.

Dear Sawan i think i am misread. I am not a part of mush group propoganda team. My point is very clear Judges Should be restored because for the last 14 months this country is without rule of law we do not have any place to seek justice. I salute the STRUGGLE and respect it. The left overs are still trying to derail the struggle but now Pakistani people have really opened their eyes no compromise on the respectable restoration of Respected Judges.

Now is the real test for Iftikhar Chauhdhary & the leaders of the lawyers movements to show that their struggle did not have any hidden agendas.

If he is really honest, Iftikhar Chaudhary & the other judges should refuse to work with the PCO judges (Post Nov-3) & refuse any compromise on this issue.

However, in my opinion he will not do that & we will hear excuses like we did this in the larger interest of the country. Aitizaz Ahsan’s relative silence recently is quite noticable. He was on every major channel every day fighting for this cause before PPP took power.

If as the lawyers & ‘civil society’ really believe in their rhetoric that “16-crore awam un ke sath he”, they should refuse to accept any compromise that defeats the express purpose of their movement.

After all they stood up against a military dictator. How hard can it be to stand up against a civilian government they claim is acting against the wishes of the people that elected them.

But unfortunately , we are about to find out what we suspected all along.
