There are strong reports coming in from Islamabad that General Musharraf may truly [finally] be unseated and sent home packing.
Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani held an extremely important meeting with President Pervez Musharraf at the Army House Rawalpindi late on Wednesday. The meeting continued till after midnight lasting more than three-and-a-half hours. This was their longest one-on-one encounter. The meeting, which was significant in view of the current political and security situation in the country, gained further importance as it took place after day-long consultations of the Army chief with his important commanders.
The chain reaction started from the change of command in the Triple-One Brigade [Military unit designated to protect the President of Pakistan] where Brigadier Faheem Rao was asked to take over immediate command replacing the president’s loyal commander Brigadier Aasim Bajwa and reports saying that Musharraf has also been asked to vacate the Army House in Rawalpindi which he continues to occupy despite his retirement many months ago.
General Kiyani has waited long enough, but I suspect its not all Kiyani’s push, he was definitely spurred on by the reawakening of Asif Ali Zardari who as been at Musharraf’s throat since the day his last criminal case was dismissed under the NRO deal, pardoning him of all his wrong doings. It is from that very day we see a change in the stance of Zardari aggressiveness towards Musharraf.
News reports suggest that a deal is being negotiated for providing ‘safe passage’ to the dictator is that justice served when this Enlightened Moderator and make spaghetti out of our country and then get up negotiate a safe passage to safer lands.
The people of Pakistan deserve an answer and must hold people accountable for their actions and deeds. Some semblance of justice needs to prevail to pacify an edge nation but more importantly future politicians need to be forewarned to keep on a tight shift or else they may face similar consequences, no more safe exits.
With a crumbling economy we cannot take any more chances we need to mend our affairs and if Zardari wants to be a proper politician who saves the day for Pakistan he needs to ensure that corruption be kept at minimum, But wait – aren’t we already languishing in a cesspool of proven criminals with millions of dollars of corruption in their tenure, so naturally its their basic instinct to first protect their ‘own kind’, you scratch my back I scratch yours [in the hope that God Forbid he may need the favor in return sometime in the future] – while rest of the nation can starve to death crushed under with starvation from escalating living costs with no potential relief in sight.
I honestly question the logic of negotiating a safe passage for Musharraf to sneak out of the country without accountability, if he is innocent then provide him an independent judiciary [ruling out PCO and Non-PCO judges due to a political bias] and take him through a free and fair trial. Let the courts decide whats a fair punishment and let it not be a mockery like the trials of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.
But if Musharraf [god forbid] is found guilty then he must be made to face the consequences. Sadly the moment I share this idea it immediately reverts to being a diminishing dream, to have any politicians accountable for their actions and deeds is something which Pakistan still has to witness

It seems like the news turned out to be rumors; although the situation is still very confusing. I personally am of the opinion that the government should basically let him go; there is no benefit in creating more uncertainty by cornering him into a position where he decides to attempt another emergency and thereby create social and economic chaos that we can really do without at this time.
I also think that it is in Pakistan’s best interest that Musharraf go abroad (maybe live with Shortcut for a while). If he lives in Pakistan, the terrorists will probably try to target him to get revenge, etc….and again, we can really do without the unnecessary chaos and bloodshed. I think right now Musharraf is probably more worried about physical security rather than indemnity for what he did.
@JF – you might be right – it may be best to send him off only to avoid any incident – but somehow banish these crooks from Pakistan forever – no deal sheal [no pardons, no nothing].

There isn’t much to be happy about if Musharraf leaves with a safe passage. Hanged under high treason is what will make sure that the sick dictators in future stay away from politics and don’t play with our sacred constitution.

People got to realize that, rule of law is when some one details you for the subject and look after you, thereby providing its own plat form to be utilized in lieu; it’s an agreement that has to be abided.
If the awarding and rewarding force is itself a superpower, there is no way to escape but if at the discretion and permission of the boss.
Mr. Musharraf and who so ever in our establishment and politics are always at the discretion of the award and granted authority of our all time beloved (At least mine) and unless the motives and desire are not achieved and accomplished, the occupant can not escape just by saying that I am no more.
This also need attention that there s system of practice in governance that resides on activity in which removal of the culprit takes place in a manner that, thereafter and in future , he is unable to withstand his profile again ,so to make him incredible in the mind of people.
this process is again accomplished in such a manner that in spite of the reason that person wants to go smoothly but he does not get chance to escape as his smooth escape can create mess later .
So in any case person got to face humiliation and untoward behavior at his own till he is ready to be thrown out as garbage.

If parliment give him safe passage then it clearly acept the suprmacy of army and US in our system of governance.Now its not only anti mush forces who are raising the voices against his worst mangement but now pro mush forces are coming forward and opening his scandels of corruptiom.Gen quyum’s acceptance of wrong doing of mush and shuak company in the biggest scandel of steel mill is now recorded and part of history.This crime of mush has started chain reactions of his brutalities as supreme court had also gone against his team.So kiyani is a man who is actually protecting his ex boss and trying to remove him from scene with some dignity so justcie can not be prevailed in the system.Kiayni is trying his best to save the skin of monsters so that the moral of ruling mafia would not be down in future.

This is why I think Mush will have to leave.
If you look at his history Musharraf knows only one way to deal with discord and opposition, brute force. He has solved every domestic crisis at gun-point the last 9 years.
Today he is not the COAS and Kiyani is not playing ball. Therefore Musharraf will have to go. He should just leave amicably with whatever resect (if any) he still has. In fact, I think people will forgive him if he leaves on his own.
