The Lament of the Blind and the Deaf

Guest post by Temporal from Baithak Blog

The usually well informed and articulate Anjum Niaz in this column is way off base

The one cardinal mistake she, and most of us make, is putting all our eggs in one basket. The controversial Chaudhry Iftikhar is not a panacea for all that ails us

Pakistan does not have the luxury of time

While we listen to the muezzin’s call from the minaret the world has left us way behind

We delude ourselves. We kill ourselves in the name of the same Allah we bow down to. There is no national institution that is not hollow and crumbling. And sadly that includes the bomb-hugging Army. Edhi is NOT an national institution, but a collective sigh

Bereft of faith and self confidence, we tire not of screaming at perceived attacks at our state, nation, religion, sovereignty, integrity, ideology

We love to point fingers at others when we should look in the mirror

That is our dilemma. I hope that it is not our undoing

    Anjum Good post

Well in my understanding our society has many people who would like to do something but they are too busy earning livelihood and keeping their life together.

I do not blame them. What are the choices, women and men do not volunteer and if they do ,one comes to know that heads are getting huge funding when one is working for free and paying travel expenses out of their own pocket.

    Practical realities are first realities.

Secondly people are scared Edhie ambulances are attacked and ambushed as well ,this is very sad and voilent aspect of our society.

Harrasement by Big Wigs , Big Fish and Big Brother leaves us with no choice but to be silent.

The Bullies of the society politicise everything in the name of religion.

Your observation is good and unique, must appreciate a genuine thought.

I totally agree with Ms Anjum, there is only one solution to all the problems restoration of 2nd Nov judiciary, sorry for temporal.

i think this is the moment and this is the time we shed all our personal biases against a messiah bestowed on us by Almighty on March 7 07 and work diligently for his come back.

This is just like the doctor who tells you the number of diseases that you are suffering from, but cannot prescribe any treatment for you.

As a nation, we should know we are already a failed state. I agree every institution has collapsed. What to do now? Sit and wait for what the heavens have in store for us. Leave our children at the mercy of the fates that is bound to follow as a result of our inactiveness?

NO. We, if at all we want a change, must fight. We must rise and mind you no power on earth has ever been able to overcome the collective wisdom of a nation.

So first thing is to ensure a fair transparent judicail system in Pakistan whom every citizen of Pakistan can trust. Because without justice no system can work. Yes systems like those imposed upon nations (like presently in Pakistan)in the preseence of an indepedant judiciary. Look at the history and we may our lessons well. If judiciary had ever followed the constitution and the law of the land and dispenced justice, no dictator would have been able to rule Pakistan without right.

First time in our sad history Justice Iftekhar has done so and tried to bring the wild wishes of the dictator in control and check of the constitution. I agree that he in first place had taken oath under PCO in early days of Musharraf but after all we have to make a start. And did not his NO to the dictator opended the doors of change in Pakistan? Did'nt the dictator very openly declare that the return of BB and NS was not possible in till the time he wass in power? Howcome the change of heart then?

He was weakened by the lawyers movement. Now sadly those i.e. zardari is opposing the restoration of CJP. Why? Ask yourself and you would come to know it is becuase of a deal between mush and zardari. And some other power brokers in Pakistan as well who fear that if some cases were opened, their may land-up behind bars.

So lets make a start to try to change our and our country's fortunes. Support the restoration of the pre Nov 2, judiciary. And Insha Allah we will be on right track. Then we can hope to see that the dictator who broke the constitution twice and openly admitted it proudly. We may see him hanging if true judiciary is restored. And mind you if this happens then rest assured that no filthy coward dictator would dare to over throw any govt in Pakistan.
