AKU succumbs to Urban Militants

Guest post by Naeem Sadiq

Illegally Parked Car at Agha Khan HospitalAKU was once perceived as a disciplined, professional and caring hospital. It followed rules, provided excellent health care services and even operated a good patient welfare scheme. We were proud of the great hospital built by Prince Karim Aga Khan in the middle of the town.

The AKU has gradually chosen to bid farewell to its founding principles and make compromises, more so when it comes to dealing with the powerful and influential urban militants.

AKU rules clearly require that weapons shall not be brought inside the hospital and vehicles shall be parked only at the designated parking places. There are two guards who are full time on duty to make sure that the vehicles move off and do not park in front of the private ward pick and drop area. The rule is uniformly applied to all citizens. However it is conveniently waived off for ministers, unregistered vehicles and for those who come accompanied by weapon carrying goons.

At 1845 hours on May 13, 2009, there were two vehicles parked in-front of the Private Ward’s pick and drop area. One vehicle had a fishy illegal number plate giving irrelevant information (Chief Of Jhalayan, Minister S&GAD), the other had three armed guards.

Illegally Parked Car at Agha Khan HospitalOn questioning as to why do they not act to get the two vehicles removed from the no-parking location, the AKU guards showed the same self acquired helplessness that has become the standard Pakistani excuse for not performing one’s duty.

I then called up the AKU security chief and asked him to do his duty to get the vehicles removed and to also report the matter to the Police for people bringing weapons and unregistered vehicles to the hospital. (besides refusing to follow hospital rules of parking)

I spent another 40 minutes in the hospital. The vehicles remained parked where they were, and the hospital administration, devoid of good sense and good guts kept looking in the other direction. That much for the finest healthcare organisation of Pakistan. Would some one please pass on this email to the HH.

    Hum sab Kuttay hain…

This system is for the elite.

This is the writ of the government. The government sucks. The writ sucks.

The way this country is run is a bloody joke.

Again I call on a campaign to ask these jokers to live without A/C will the refuges live in the camps.

Have any one seen dozen of boards of "No Parking" placed outside the Nissan cars show room opposite Awami markaz along with footpath. who allowed them to do this. How a private person put his board on public property? Why they can stop me to park my car in front of their show room, Just because they have long & expensive cars & have relationships with "Urban Militants". I am a citizen of this country & paid tax to govt. have no rights. Can any one can answer?

    Raj Thanks,

Makes it even nicer that this coincides with the same time the operation was underway and the swatis were getting to the camps or on their trek on foot to the camps.

I think we need once central website where we expose these morons.

Kashif, you got a video camera? I think a site just exposing these people is the need of the hour.

I think we need a massive campaign of letter to everyone in the media demanding that Zardari, Kayani, Gillani and our reps in the assembly, start living in tents this summer, untill these people are relocated.

Thats what leadership is. Either lead or leave. Enough of this nonsense.

I mean like there is stuff like that on youtube but with the web you need a specific site where all know where to look.

Is there already a site like this for pakistan?

World Automobiles (dealers of Nissan and Chevrolet)have their head office at Park Towers, Clifton and branch at PECHS, Shara-e-Faisal, across Awami Markaz. They are certainly big fish. I don't want to point fingers without evidence but rumors are that their advancement from rags to riches is by hook and crook.

They have deployed private security guards and blocked large portion of the service road using No Parking signs and tapes, naming it 'parking for privileged customers'. How on earth they got the right to occupy public property like this?

Interesting, police mobiles (either traffic / sindh police or sometimes both) are stationed right at the turning that leads from SF to inner road, hawking motorcylces and single drivers but nobody gives a damn about Land Mafia occupation right behind them.

If 'Taliban' is a mentality, they are also Taliban. Only difference is that they are urbanized as compared to their turbanized brethren of NWFP.

I remember when my brother was admitted in AKU, at that same time Peer Pagara was admitted too on the same floor in VIP room.. as far as I remember he didn't have any guard.. but yes lots of servant on his service heh.. and.. few prados, few jeeps parked infront of Private ward all the day..

and if you talk about AKU's policy difference for VIPS and normals then I somewhat agree to that because our guests were not allowed to come after visiting hours and they never allowed guests more than 2 or 3, but peer pagara used to have lots of people from his village after visiting hours too..

but then as many of you might have seen and read his words in newspaper when he was admitted, he said that he feels like living in heaven.. getting served by hoors (referring to nurses)

at that time AKU's administration got action and stopped nurses to go to his room, and then only male were allowed to give him treatment 😛

Pakistan is and always has been for the elite ONLY. A village laborer would not be allowed in the door yet the elite can almost drive their car inside the hospital. It is not difficult to understand the rise of the Taliban in Pakistan.

Lol what do you expect AKU or its doctors or its students to do? Some bugti kid walks to your house with guards will you pick a knife against him? If you do, you’re an idiot

Learn about facts first and then comment. This guy Naeem Sadiq seems has nothing better to do. He is being vindictive as he was not allowed to park his car. i am sure there would have been no photo nor any comment if his car was parked. There are lots of other things to cpomment but refrain from because "Behainse key aage been bajane sey koi faida naheen".
