Update on Swat Relief Collection Drive

Just an update from the collection drive for the Swat relief where I plan to head out to Mardan on 18th or 19th.

I have talked to MAKRO and have negotiated a hamper of relief goods for one family at a rate of Rs. 3000. It is still being negotiated down and the lower it gets the more hampers we will be able to purchase. So for technicality purposes we are collecting cash either in Karachi or alternate locations in Lahore [to be decided]. if you want to contribute please coordinate SMS@ 0302-8273493.

I was initially planning to take the items from Karachi – but it with full cooperation from Makro I am able to have the hampers delivered in Lahore and from there we can take the 6 hour drive to Mardan, saving up tremendously on the transportation costs

The actual Worksheet which is still under negotiation and we hope to bring down the price can be seen here http://cli.gs/idpack

Medicines are being processed separately and if you want to participate in that fund then please call or SMS you commitment 0302-8273493

Courtesy of Fauzia Minallah plans are underway to in a way adopt a school in Mardan for our relief effort, a housing location that has not been looked after, there are supposedly 1200 families housed there and hence we must target a goal of 1200 hampers at the minimum [as of writing this post I am committed with cash in hand for Mashallah 250 hampers] – more updates soon along with assistance from SARelief.com for international collection under the 502(1)b and also a push to achieve the 1200 target

    Wake up people

    ————–

I just returned from Malakand last night after visiting camps of displaced people in Mardan, Sawabi and Malakand. There are over 1.5 million people who are living in miserable condition in these camps. every house in these areas has become a refugee camp. The locals have accommodated as many people as they can in their Hujras and their own homes. But there are more and more families coming out of swat, Buner, Dir and Malakand every day.

I visited a camp in Malakand. It is just a couple of miles away from my native village. It is a setup by locals and there were some 2800 people living . The local poor population is trying its best to provide them all they need. I just received a call from my brother who informed me that number of people in that particular camp has exceeded 6000. They are getting short of medicine, food supplies and other necessities. They badly need female doctors as there are pregnant ladies among the displaced people and for this huge camp there is only one male doctor available who is working day and night but things are beyond his control now.

We badly need male and female doctors and all emergency medicines. If a doctor / para med. staff reads this, please do contact us if you are willing to go with us to these camps and serve the humanity.

I am leaving for Malakand in a couple of hours and may not check my emails regularly. You can contact us either on our cell phones or to alternate email addresses.

Please do not worry about your safety and security. The camps are established in places which are quite far from war zone. We will try our best to provide you armed guards, transport and accommodation but no one can guarantee any ones life except Allah. So be brave and join us. I assure all of you that none of us will die a single moment earlier than the time of death that has been decided by almighty Allah.

May Allah bless you Awab for your good deed, Ameen.

Not so much to question the intentions but am curious on why you are including items like mineral water and platic cups/plates. These items could be replaced with more atta or rice which in my view is a more urgent requirement. As for cups/plates I am sure you can get a better deal in Bolton market… Just my thoughts

Just returned from Kakakhel relief camp, Shergarh , Mardan. Also visited a couple of other camps in Jalala and Sawabi.

The Kakakhel camp is really a wonderful one. They are not only providing free accommodation and free food, but has arranged to set up a medical facility with 5 ambulances and a mobile medical camp which serves patients in other camps too. I spent few hours in the camp and handed them over some food items. Also spoke to some IDPs and they were quite comfortable in this camp. An IDP told me the camp administration is trying its best to provide all facilities to them. They are even pursuing WAPDA to install a separate power transoformer for the camp as with the load on the main power line has increased alot with continiously increasing tents . They are also seting up a vocational center for ladies

Those who want to donate something do not buy something on their own. Contact them first and get a current list of requirement. THen buy those and better go to the camp urself for distribution. Its located on main road and is only 2 hrs drive from motorway if u drive at 120 on Motorway. If u are speedy, its one and a half hour.

Some of the tents are very small and hardly 6 feet high so will get very hot in coming few weeks. I think they need to replace those.

It was a surprise to see some 20-25 volunteers from Kohat University of Sciences and Technology there. They are helping the camp administrators.
