Prof Adil Najam to receive Sitara-e-Imtiaz

Adil NajamIt is very refreshing to hear that Professor Adil Najam, an environmentalist and a fellow blogger of Pakistaniat fame is to be the recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Pakistans’ highest civilian award, which will be awarded to him by the President of Pakistan in Islamabad on 23rd March 2010.

This news came to me on the morning of 14th of August in an email from Adil Bhai, as I was heading to Sorh Baluchistan for a 3-day offroading adventure with OffRoadPakistan. Adil bhai’s email was one of the last few emails that snuck into my blackberry moments after which we lost all connections with the digital [real] world and disappeared into the blackhole of wilderness literally disconnected from the enitre world for a peaceful three days, having read his email it did leave me in a frustrated mess of not having time to congratulate Adil Bhai via email or even with a congratulatory blog post announcing this amazing news. It is now after three days that I feel that the first post I must write should be about this great inspirational blogger whom I have had the honor to have known for the past three years.

Professor Adil Najam is the Director of the Frederick S. Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future and a Professor International Relations and of Geography and Environment at Boston University, was recently appointed by the United Nations Secretary-General to the UN Committee on Development Policy. Prof Adil Najam has emerged as a rising star in the international environmental movement even earning a share of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore and other scientists on an international climate change council. Since 2006 he has been actively involved in the blogging community and is steadfast committed at creating a positive image of Pakistan through one of the most popular blogs of Pakistan called All Things Pakistan.

There is no doubt that his work speaks wonders about his commitment to the environment and too Pakistan and I blog-gratulate him on this medal, quite literally Pakistan thanks him for making us proud. We, the bloggers in Pakistan understand that this medal was a recognition for his efforts in environment but we shall perceive it more as a Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his efforts to revolutionize the blogging spectrum in Pakistan

Yay! Way to go Adil. About time some "real" people who have actually made a contribution, were recognized. I am absolutely delighted to hear the news. Whether it is his efforts for the environment or his contribution via Pakistaniat that he is receiving the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for, it is certainly well deserved. Congratulations Adil.

Sorry to reign in on the parade BUT I'll say I am not surprised the "best friend" of Bilal Musharraf is getting this honor. And wasn't it his site that blamed lawyers for the violence in Multan (http://pakistaniat.com/2007/12/07/protest-but-not-like-this/).

I just out of curiosity tried the link,

to see myself what more specifically ought to be mentioned in the article,

-but it do seem to me that the link is `excravated´ or has a fractionized link`gamentum, just for informing purposes.

    regard a humble adam.

Anyhow I did give a Mubariqe at pakistaniat. to prof.Adil Najam, it`s a rather nice and informative ´blog´he and Owais Mughal are running.

he has crossed many milestones just in 20 yrs and now he is going to get the sitara e imtiaz.

i have one question. are we able to distinguish between real artists from hustlers and bustlers?

achivements with excelllence and dedication must be the criteria of such national awards.

It is befitting when National Awards are being distributed right left and centre that this man is is also in the list.A "Mumbaikar" in his own words.
