The earthquake’s that have hit Pakistan in 2005 and 2008 were regarded as the worst tragedy for the nation. Few have realized that the recent floods have in fact caused more damage then those earthquake’s did. As per latest reports official figures stand at 1600 dead and 12 million left homeless.
The Monsoon rains began two weeks ago and have washed away roads, bridges and communications lines, hampering rescue efforts by aid organizations and the government. The downpours have grounded many aircraft trying to rescue people and ferry aid, including six helicopters manned by US troops on secondment from Afghanistan.
Currently 30,000 Pakistan Army troops are busy in rescue and relief efforts. Where as the Earthquake of 2005 and 2008 and the IDP crisis were devastating, unlike the Flooding they were contained within a geographic area. Flooding has been reported from Kyhber-Pakthunkwa all they way down to Southern Punjab and Sindh. There is only so much the government and the armed forces can do in the face of such a massive disaster and so we as citizens have undertaken the mantle of trying to add our little drop to the ocean
To that end, we have decided to take up relief efforts to the areas of Sindh in an attempt to help bring relief to the suffering. The idea is initially to partner with a team of who is willing to take the relief goods up. We hope to launch such an intiative with Motorsports Club of Pakistan and our very own OffroadPakistan group to some part of Sindh and personally deliver the goods there. To help our international donors we have partnered with SA Relief operating under the aiegus of Paksef a US Tax-deductible 501(c)(3) NGO registered in California to enable our US based well wishers to contribute to the relief via Chipin and Paypal
The online collection is slated to run through out Ramazan to tap into the generous Zakat giving ability of Muslims around the world, ideally this would mean two missions, one from the cash funds collected personally in Karachi while the second mission will utilize the generous contribution from online donations. It is my personal promise that all funds collected will be disbursed off in a total transparent manner as possible, all recipts and travel expenditures will be posted online for the world to see. Like the IDP Relief effort we did in 2009 here, here
Donations can be made directly into Behbood Association Karachiaccount at Standard Chartered in Karachi. A/C#08-2315386-01 [PakRs] Swift Code SCBLPKKXXX or even online on the widget provided above which is processed via Paypal and these online contributions are being collected by PAKISTAN SCIENCE & ENGINEERING FOUNDATION a 501(c)(3) registered California based not-for-profit organization, EIN# 20-2950808. The international community has pledged over 102 million USD in relief support, however till now only 20 million USD have been actually being transferred to the government. Keeping the 2005 earthquake experience in mind the international community is wary of stepping ahead. The government needs to assure that these funds are utilized in a corruption free manner so that the trust of donors in restored.
Please donate generously for flood relief affectees, but never do this mistake by donating direct in to president or prime minister a/cs.
I will NOT donate a penny to the shameless scumbags from PPP and nor any other party in the parliament.
I will only donate to organisations I trust, and the government/army is certainly not the trusted ones.
I have made my contribution to PTI!
Karachi students show solidarity with flood victims KARACHI (14th August 2010 (4 hours ago)) http://www.aaj.tv/2010/08/karachi-students-show-s… On the morning of 14th August, when the whole nation was celebrating a simple Independence Day amidst the deadliest floods in Pakistan, two student groups “Jaag Mere Talib-e-Ilm” from Szabist and “Rahnuma” from Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture came together for a walk from the Jehangir Kotari Parade to Do Talwar to show solidarity with the affected ones and spark feelings of patriotism amongst the public.
The idea behind the walk was to show the public that the students of Pakistan are united in this time of need and are making every effort in their capacity to help as much as they can. During the walk, students chanted slogans of “Pakistan Zindabad” and “Jeeway Jeeway Pakistan”. The walk ended at Do Talwar where the students formed a human chain around the round about and sung the national anthem of Pakistan. The students also started a donation collecting drive for the flood victims right there at Do Talwar, collecting money from people in cars. An amount of Rs. 26,000 was collected within two hours. The two organizations have also been running a drive within their respective institutions for the past two weeks and have sent goods worth more than Rs. 700,000 to the flood affected areas.

Dear Media Friends / International Community
I am surprised no anchorperson or any media person has yet interviewed or focused over Ahmad Kamal the present Member NDMA, who is posted since last six months despite his massive sandal reported in media. He is also indirect NRO beneficiary (All cases against him were withdrawn before trail by interfarnce of minister in Murharraf Regime .
Why? Obviously, he is a good paymaster to higher authorities. He is same person who forced Chinese for under-table negotiation, who approach and researched Pakistan to breach Hunza Lake.
Now, when the floods triggered by monsoon rains in Pakistan have killed more than 1250 people (numbers will raise), more than sixteen million people have become homeless, then corruption of Ahmad Kamal is exposed when was chief Engineer (FFC) . As Chief Engineer federal Flood commission (http://www.ffc.gov.pk ), that works under Ministry of Water & Power has rights to plan, monitor and execute flood control projects for effective management of floods.
Since its establishment in 1976, it has spent Rs. 35.8 billion and $ 400 million (Rs 34 billion) on floods mitigation projects. Where has all this money gone? Ahmed Kamal is one of the main culprits of the huge embezzlement as Chief Engineer of FCC. He recently managed to get deputed as a Member, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and has also act as spokesman of NDMA.
This very same person after looting billions of rupees has asked people to donate their money for flood victims. While donation flow in, it is important that the government punish people like him and others who have made this tragedy far worse than it ought to have been.
i know this gentelman (ahmed kamal) since 1994 when I first met him in Quaid-e-azam hostel, london, england. we were both doing master in hydrology from Imperial college but I were one year ahead. I finished my degree and returned. I have doubt of his degree as he followed me several times to get a copy of my degree for various excuses but I refused. Pakistan is a country where people with fake degrees hold the most critical and responsible positions.
Please donate for pakistan as much as you can
