Pakistan: Mobile Network Internet speed testing survey

WIth a massively growing telecom industry in Pakistan, it is sad that there continues to be no measure of quality of service that these mobile service providers continue to deliver to their consumers in Pakistan.

I think there needs to be some effort to measure their service and the best possible way that I can think off is the community across Pakistan pitching in their own results into a consolidated database. Ideally we would have loved to have a detailed website, but lets start with a small survey.

Download SpeedTest into your smartphone & then fill the survey

Blackberry users in Pakistan can migrate to Enterprise Service for unrestricted use

For a good one year, ever since the facebook controversy regarding the burning of the Quran hit Pakistan, internet browsing has been significantly restricted on Blackberry devices under the orders of the Lahore High Court and subsequently conveyed to all telco’s via Pakistan Telecommunication Authority. Other cell phone users enjoy unrestricted access to most websites since they rely on simple GPRS connections which can be easily monitored and controlled but Blackberry users face the brunt of the impact of these restrictions since their devices are connected online via a secure tunnel connection to Singapore easily bypassing any government enforced censorship.

My personal position is that any blasphemous / illegal (including porn) content should not be viewed, those individual who seek such content do so on their own free will and they alone are responsible and will be answerable to Allah. Condemning an entire population for something they have no interest in, is unfortunate, and such blanket censorships only become a source of inconvenience.

Most of Pakistani Blackberry users subscribe to Blackberry Internet Services (BIS) which is the simplest form of blackberry service the services and tools are controlled to a great extent by the Telco themselves, one way to bypass all the censorship hoopla is to subscribe to Blackberry Enterprise Server,

Secure Mobile Voice calling for Cell Phone users in Pakistan?

askbajwaThis query is being forwarded to our local security expert based out of Lahore Mr. Fouad Bajwa who maintains AskBajwa.com [I await his response]

Considering the level of espionage that is undertaken by our authorities at times I believe Pakistani businessmen and citizens stand at a major disadvantage since our own government is resolutely committed at working against us under the excuse of ‘the interest of the state‘. We all must be aware that all our calls, SMS’s and Internet usage is being extensively monitored and tracked, to be used as and when needed against us. I personally don’t mind monitoring terrorism related activities but merely assuming that every Pakistani is a criminal and must be subjected to government espionage is an idiotic solution to the problem.

I ask this question more in line when I read this article on BlackberryCool reviewing CellCrypta secure mobile voice application for Blackberry and Symbian devices via VoIP – it comes at a hefty price tag of 2500 Euro – but it might be worth the investment for a viable business who prefers a high level of security.
