There are some interesting reports emerging on other blogs in Pakistan. Follow the links here
- KO: My voting experience in the 2008 elections, where he shares his voting experience
- KO’s own family where out of 10 people, only two were on the list, so 8 couldn’t vote.
- His friends: Went to vote, his vote had already been cast. After making a big fuss, they offered to let him vote in someone else’s name, at which point he left.
- His aunt: She voted thrice. I don’t know why. She went to vote, than she went back twice, and was able to vote again.
- Another of KO’s relative: A party offered to vote for him, if he would only give his ID number to them – as he too wasn’t registered on the electoral list. (he is a registered voter, having voted 4-5 times before, but not on the list for this elections.) This happened at numerous places.

Dear Awab,
My father went to the DHA College for Boys in Phase 6 (local polling station) to inquire whether our names were on the list so we could vote only to be told that there was no list available. He did inquire (very glibly) whether the list would be available by the next general elections?!
A friend of mine just sent me an SMS from Jhang that Abida Hussein was expected to win by an over whelming majority but it has now become a very close race between her and Saleh Hyat.
Unconfirmed reports that Sheikh Rashid and Humanyun Akhter have lost from both seats?
Moonis Elahi has lost from Lahore as had Khurshid Kasuri?
Can anyone confirm please?
The only question i have is… if these elections are rigged why are the Government parties and candidates losing???? The religious parties aren’t doing too well either. Should the riggers not ensure their wins???
PML (N) is winning in Punjab
PPP is winning in Sindh
Mqm in the urban areas of Karachi and Hyderabad
Pml(Q) IS LOSING EVERYWHERE
exactly where is the rigging taking effect?
@Ayesha
I heard the same about Humayun Akhter’s loss – there are also rumors around that due to his past experience of lack of support from the Saddar, Lahore voters, the polling station was deliberately made a couple of kilometers away from Saddar this time, where PML-Q was covering the prime location, followed by PPP, and the PML-N people stuffed at the far end.
@Faisal
I read with interest on your blog that everyone you know is voting for MQM, because they actually work on the front-lines, whereas all of my friends, family and co-workers in Karachi (and there are literally hundreds of them) regularly share stories of their illegal acts – are my friends biased? I’m very curious to understand the bigger picture, as ignorant Lahoris like me aren’t normally in sync with what’s going on in other parts of Pakistan 🙁
Is it a love-hate relationship people have with MQM or am I entirely off the mark?
Thanks redsnapper, I followed the link to Faisal’s blog from here, and after reading his post, it looked like MQM are the model social workers loved by everyone rather than the killers and abusers that I’ve always been told they are (and can’t confirm from first-hand knowledge) – especially when he said (and I quote)

In Urban Karachi and Hyderabad, there is no challenge to MQM, they are winning by a landslide. All the people i have spoken to today, across this city have voted for MQM based on a number of observations. Chief among them being When it rained and the roads were flooded who else but Mustufa Kamal was seen standing himself at night supervise drainage when the storm came and hoardings flew all over the same gent was there working for this city and so on.
I now am quite sure that rigging on whatever scale (if it has even happened) has caused minimum or no damage in these elections.

So I was almost beginning to believe that all the killings in the past few months were not MQM’s doing, and they really are ‘gents’, CHOSEN by the Karachi citizens.
@sohaib
I live in Karachi and I personally know someone who unwillingly put in 10 votes for MQM simply because the Presiding Officer was from his area and he didn't want to take a chance. More such authentic reports have come in these elections too.
Something very noticeable is that polling agents from other parties seemed to be absent from areas where rigging reports in favor of MQM came in.
Questions for everybody:
Were the other parties not sure of themselves ?
Did they think it was not worthwhile to concentrate in these areas ?
Could they have made a tactical error ?
