Rock ‘n Roll Karachi

Published in Desicritics.org

Come 29th January the city of Karachi is going to Rock ‘n Roll with the first ever concert by an international rock star Bryan Adams who is set to appear at the Arabian City Country Club. Pakistan has never been a potential rock concert destination and the entire country holds its breath in anticipation of a successful event, which may put Karachi or even Pakistan on the map of potential rock concert destinations.

Ticketed at a steep Rs. 3500 ($58) people seem to be a bit wary if it would be a peaceful concert as usually hot concert have seen unruly mobs thrashing the audience and security to a pulp. Zindagi Trust a non-profit NGO headed by the local pop icon Shehzad Roy is pulling all stops to make this event as peaceful as potentially possible.

Pakistanis are usually happy to fork over around Rs. 700-1000 for a concert, anything higher they then expect a royal treatment anticipating a full sit-down dinner and concert, so when the price tag of Rs. 3500 is announced and that too only for a standing-room-only concert its seems to be a minor turn-off.

The classical Islamic scholars strangely seem to be quiet for now, either its an arm wrestled hush hush as with the Pakistan Army in the presidency, little can they do to disrupt events like these.

Only time will tell how the concert will potentially go, but rest assured either way this reporter will be there to rock you along for the ride.
