ICM Research based in London has carried out a very extensive telephonic survey to determine the general perception of people around the world on a few world leaders. The poll was conducted by the Guardian in Britain and leading newspapers in Israel (Haaretz), Canada (La Presse and Toronto Star) and Mexico (Reforma), using professional local opinion polling in each country. The study employed doing a telephonic interview of more then a thousand adults located across the world in Britain, Canada, Mexico and Israel. The interesting part of this study is important to note that this is primarily a non-US poll, which would allow us to look past the bias when interviewing Americans when they have so much at stake.
I have studied the data and even went the extra mile to create graphics to better give my readers an idea as to what was the overall opinion on each question. The results are as follows while the raw data can be downloaded here
Q1 – As you may be aware, George W. Bush has been President of the United States since 2001. In that time would you say that American foreign policy has made the world….
69% of the general public felt that Bush has made the world LESS SAFE
Q2- What about the impact on democracy in the developing world? In that time would you say that American foreign policy has….
Where they find that 51% of the people feel that the democracy has not changed (neither improved nor worsened) by the American foreign Policy
Q3. In hindsight, do you think that the United States was justified in its decision to invade Iraq?

This poll is a JOKE.
Poll size is small and sampling is biased.
And you know what?
Who the feck cares?
You anti-Americans will remain anti-American no matter what the poll numbers.
TM coming back to the USA soon?
And why? Bush has two more years in office!
Flap – Come on, if the poll happens to be against the US sentiments you cant label it as a joke. This is actually what I have been trying to tell you, that there is a serious Anti-US sentiment brewing outside the United States and you living ‘inside’ don’t realize it.
This study is just a random sample, what do you want as a sample size a million respondents, come on, all Gallup polls or all US media polls even in the US uses a set 1000+, You accept those numbers but wont accept a survey that is anti-American – what hypocrisy?
In the same light on your accusation for us remaining Anti-American, I think YOU also remain blinded to the global implications of your hegemony.
Lets see what happens on Nov 7, will the tables turn or do we go for another 2 years of rampage.
I agree with doc all the way. First of all this poll was conducted by a number of reputable newspapers. Second, people who conduct polls know what they are doing as they know how to gather all the statistics. If they can use Nielsen’s ratings to determine the viewership of programs in the US why cant they use polls to check the popularity of political leaders? Its not as if the poll was conducted by some fictitious think tank or organization. Now if there were some “dangerous” Muslim leader on the list I am sure there would be people who would “flap” their wings and excitedly point out the poll’s authenticity.Well this means that there is loads of “anti-american” sentiment in countries who are friendly with the US ie. UK,Canada,Israel,Mexico. They say that the first step is always anger, denial and then acceptance (or is it denial, anger then acceptance) Its sad to see that people refuse to accept the true facts.
PS. I have my doubts about the elections coz of Saddam’s verdict. I wonder why they announced it a couple of days before the elections. hmmm
You anti-Americans will remain anti-American no matter what the poll numbers.
*grin*
