Saleem Malik, Appeals Life-Ban

Saleem MalikA few days back during the ICC meeting in Delhi, the ICC decided to lift Ata-ur-Rehman’s life-ban, Ata-ur-Rehman 30, may find some young legs still around to be able to bowl at least in First Class cricket if not appear in some county series if he is able to regain form. But what interests me is the recent consideration by the Pakistan Cricket Board to appeal on behalf of Saleem Malik, who was also implicated in the match fixing controversy in 2000. Malik who is 43 years young might only muster a senior tour if to say the least.

The lifting of the Life-ban does not in my opinion absolve him of the match-fixing scandal but technically may serve as closure for him alone, but on the other hand why does he care to open these sore wounds yet again. Is he aspiring to be selected at a coaching position with the Pakistan cricket team or some other elaborate game plan might have been set into motion by Dr. Naseem Ashraf. Considering the upheaval he has created since he stepped into office I suspect every move with guarded suspicion, any reader care to speculate what could be the motive behind Malik’s appeal, or is it just to bring closure to this issue?

well cricket is a pretty lucrative sport now so i guess he is trying to salvage his pride and get some sort of concession from the govt. i doubt it if he looking for closure coz he was guilty of match fixing. its difficult to get closure when your name has been tainted by a scandal. closure would be if he had remorse for what he did and promised not to bring the sport into disrepute again. we just have an opportunist here who is looking for his second innings.

This is an interesting story. I was not aware of the appeal. Would you be interested in publishing any articles on sports?

    All the best,

Well you are playing first class or not … Ban is a mental presure anyways .. when Azharuddin can play in ICC seniors then why not Saleem Malik … they were equally convicted ..!
