Crowe after Muralitharan’s Doosra

Murali Doosra

Martin Crowe, the former New Zealand captain, has emailed the ICC to review Muttiah Muralitharan’s bowling action, specifically the doosra. Which has been an-issue-to-whine-over by a number of English, Aussie & New Zealand cricketers for a long time. It was the infamous Darryl Hair who took it upon himself to get into a tussle with the Sri Lankan team a few years back and later wrote a book about it.

ICC has some very vague and unscientifically proven rules about arm flexion allowing spinners to bend their elbow by 5 degrees while quick pacers are permitted to extent the envelop upto 10 degrees. These numbers have been based upon observations, sampling the bowlers in the international arena, naturally such a rule is bound to be problematic unless and until definitive fair rules are established taking into consideration the rare probability of a Muthiah Muralitharan’s unique wrist anatomy where he biologically cannot fully straighten his arm and is bound to be some degree of flexion as normal.

Murali is an Off-spinner and his doosra is ball which he sparingly uses to unsettle the batsman where suddenly the off spinners start going away from the bat rather then coming into a right-handed player at the crease.

Even within the rules there is no rock-solid framework to define an illegal delivery and rests on reporting by umpires to call an action when its evident. The origin of this incident started when a TV commenter started accusing the arm flexion which later resulted in Matrin Crowe to approach the ICC with an email suspecting Murali’s action after his brilliant match winning performance which must have left the New Zealander hunting for a scape-goat. To ad fuel to the fire the New Zealanders were not even a shade bit sorry for the controversial run-out of Murali in the 1st test match

“Murali’s also been passed by the biomechanists, Everyone thinks he has a bent elbow. He hasn’t, he can’t straighten his elbow. He’s got a double-jointed wrist like you wouldn’t believe.”
said John Reid (member of ICC Illegal Delivery Panel) who had cleared Murali six years ago when it was a major issue. Yet despite all the evidence (including scientific) its ironic that whenever Muralitharan delivers a match winning performance these sore losers start questioning this brilliant bowler who happens to be of Asian origin.

We as Asians must stand hand-in-hand again to fully condemn this white-skin brown-skin issue which has yet again resurfaced. Lets not take any more Bullshit from these sore losers
