Waqar Resigns as Bowling Coach

Waqar Younis who has been the bowling coach of the Pakistan Cricket team for approximately one year and today has announced his resignation from the job. It seems that PCB had limited his services as bowling coach for only the test matches which Pakistan was due to play in South African and not the One-Day matches. Waqar announced his decision after returning from Hajj recently and was quite bitter about PCB’s decision “If I am not needed for the ODIs then I don’t want to do the job. The board doesn’t look respect its ex-players properly.”

It has been rumored that Waqar may already have a job as a bowling coach in Australia with the New South Wales cricket club but despite all the controversy its seem that ever since Nasim Ashraf took over the position of Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board he has continued to stir the cricket arena far more then needed, he had a captaincy crisis which was a mess and is now dealing with the doping scandal which sadly turned into a catastrophe in the making once the WADA decided to approach the Court of Arbitration for a proper verdict on the issue.

Waqar YounisThe court has announced that it will present a verdict ‘within’ four months, such a statement leaves the selectors in a major quagmire. If they choose to take both Shoaib and Asif in their squad and if the verdict came square in the middle of the event, it would leave Pakistan with two bowlers short, a major void in the squad difficult to replace on short notice. My advise would be to play the fitter of the two (Mohd Asif) and gamble with one bowler, Shoaib Akhtar is still too aloof on his ego-preached-rollercaoster even for his own good.

All said Pakistan continues to face one crisis after another ever since Dr. Nasim Ashraf took over the reigns. Does he at all know anything about cricket since we have seen him involved in extracurricular activities like asking Inzamam not to force his player to offer namaz in public.

I say throw the jerk (Mr. Ashraf) out and bring in a proven cricket player from retirement to head PCB. After all, only a cricket player can truly understand another cricket player.

Though Mr Asraf seems to be causing a lot more trouble than is usually the case, I think its debatable whether an ex-cricket should be in charge of Pakistani cricket. There is plenty of bad blood and rivalries, jealously amongst the players themselves. Having an ex-cricketer in charge would only serve to create more rifts in the system. I still believe an administrator with few ties to the game , perhaps a diplomat, would be the ideal person for the job.

That being said, Waqar should have been convinced to stay. They were probably scheming to get rid of him when they decided to call him back after the test series were concluded.

As far as Ashraf and prayers go, I think the story was highlighted unnecesasrily by the media. Asfraf was right in chiding Inzamam. As the captain of the team, he is a representative of the country, and is arguably the most visible public face of our country abroad. Inzy and the team should keep their religious views to themselves and stick to what they are being paid for. Cricket.

common sense dictates to ‘ think first & do later’, however,it seems that our friend dr nasim ashraf believes more on ‘ do first and think later’!the theory of “take a decision, reverse a decision” aways gives birth to controversy, and ‘dr’ asim ashraf is busy in the cloning operation!his antics remind me of the funny ‘monster.com’commercial, where a cricketer very comically instead of playing on a cricket pitch is thrashing clothes in a washerman’s laundry with his bat!and now i also realize that inzimam shuoldn’t be solely blamed in the infamous oval test fiasco! dr nasim ashraf(surely with his brilliant common sense and advises )could be seen prominently on the tv screen.

Waqar was appointed coach only for test matches, not for one day internationals. So he resigned as bowling coach as he wants to perform the complete task.

Sir President PCB, Aslam-o-Alikum. Sir our bowling lineup struggled in Test Matches against South Africa. Sir we have talented players in Pakistan who can produce good result in ODIs. Sir we must have backup for each good bowler in team.
In ODIs three specialist bowler will play with Razzaq and left arm spinner Abdul Rehman. The back up for each bowler is as fallow:
1- Backup for Sohaib Akhtar is Mohammad Irshad.
2- Backup for Mohammad Asif is Shabir Ahmed
3- Backup for Umar Gul is Rana Naveed.
4- Backup for Abdul Razzaq is Shaid Afridi
5- Abdul Rehman will retain his place.
Sir if these players are unavailable then Moh. Sami and Samiullah Niazi from A team should be used.

Sir I am taking the name of Mohammad Irshad as a backup for Sohaib Akhtar because he is a nice pacy bowler with accuracy and he can swing the ball. His coach in academy was Aaqib Javed who prepares him well. Sir I strongly hope that his exposure to ODI Cricket will be good for Pakistan Team.
Sir I am taking the name of Samiullah Niazi in extras because we need a left arm seam bowler for different verity in our squad.
Sir I am thankful to you that you add Abdul Rehman in squad.
Sir as well as batting is concern, take a strong action to improve the openers because openers are backbone for the performance of middle order players. If opener fails then all middle order is fell in pressure.
Sir in my opinion the backup for batting lineup should be.
1- Backup for Sohaib Malik is Mohammad Hafeez or Yasir Hameed.
2- Backup for Imran Farhat is RiffatUllah of A team or Salman Butt if he is fully fit.
3- Backup for Younis Khan is Shahid Yousaf
No backup for Yousaf and Inzmam because they are important players for Pakistan.
Kamran Akmal will play with backup Zulkernain Haider.

Sir please direct coaches to prepare these players with their backup for World Cup and ODIs in South Africa.
I hope you will get marvelous results.

    With Regards,

Reader please forwards my letter to PCB Chairman in South Africa as soon as possible.

Sir please gives players the following instructions to get victory in match
    1. Bowlers:-
Bowlers should ball with in line and length. Sami should reduce his pace and ball with in stumps. The best way is that make a mark in good length area and deliver all over in that area dont exert extra pace just concentrate on swing either out swing or in dipper.
Shahid Nazir is not much pacy bowler he should ball wicket to wicket and dont try other thing. Just concentrate on good length area.

Kaneria should push the ball up to the batsman if you are not getting turn dont be impatient keep bowling in good length area.

    2. Batting:-
Yasir should come at no 6th. Our opening batsman have problem in facing out swingers. First of all left all ball going away from stumps if out swinger is difficult then play a powerful hook shot with full concentration.
Younis should not play unnecessary shots like he get out in 1st innings.
Inzi should play a powerful hook shot when any bowler delivers difficult out swinger because if you defend it you will get out.

Remember one thing all the players are playing for Pakistan they should fight. Win and defeat is part of game.

    Mr. President PCB:-
You had already seen the bad performance of Pakistani team against a weak batting side South African team. This is all because of poor coaching, poor captaincy and poor temperament of all players.
Sir I have some suggestions for our team to do better in ODI series and World Cup.
    1. Coaching:-
This is the right time to good bye Woolmer, give him coaching in club cricket until his contract ends. Intihab Alam is right choice for coaching. I have already asked in my previous letter about him. Sir, he will improve the standard of batting till World Cup.
    2. Bowling Coach:-
Sir Sarfraz Nawaz will be right choice for bowling coach at that time because he will improve the standard of fast bowling and he already improved the bowling action of some players.
    3. Assistant Coach:-
Sir Abdul Qadir a great leg spinner, should be the bowling coach because he will improve the standard of spin bowling and he is more experience than Mustaq Ahmed. He is also a good student of game.
    4. Team Selection for ODI series:-
Sir, our openers totally failed in test series their technique of batting is not up to the mark. Sir, they should be given rest. Salman Butt who has 4 centuries in ODIs and he also score a big hundard against West Indies in side match should be given chance for at least two matches. If Imran Nazir, Sohaib Malik and Yasir Hameed are totally fit then give rest to Hafiz to improve his batting technique and give them chance according to merit of pitch.
Sir in bowling we need Mohammad Irshad, Samiullah Niazi and Rana Naveed + Asif.
Sir Mohammad Irshad is much better than Sami. Samiullah Niazi is better than Rao Iftihar who is medium pacer. If Sohaib and Gul are not fully fit then these bowlers should be given chance.
I am saying again Sami,s bowling technique is not up to the mark thats why he is so inconsistent bowler.
Sir I am writing the possible best Squad, Please took your serious attention on it.

    1. Salman Butt with backup Imran Nazir
    2. Sohaib Malik with backup Yasir Hameed
    3. Younis Khan
    4. Mohammad Yousaf.
    5. Inzmam-ul-Haq
    6. Kamran Akmal
    7. Abdul Razzaq with backup Shahid Afridi.
    8. Abdul Rehman
    9. Mohammad Irshad with backup Sohaib(if he is fit)
    10. Rana Naveed with backup Umar Gul(if he is fit)
    11. Mohammad Asif with backup Shabir Ahmed.
Sir this is the best possible 17 players squad. I am taking the name of Irshad because his bowling pace is almost equal to Bratt Lee and he will useful in South Africa. Sir, Misbah-ul-Haq from A team can be send if you want to give rest to any of senior Player like Inzi.
Sir this is the improrant thing, please forward it to Inzi and Yousaf.
Their batting technique is totally judge by South African bowlers and thats why they bowl them in swinger or in dipper. The best way to survive this ball is that stand 5 or 6 inches away from crease to minimize the swing and then they will easily defend the ball. Yasir Hameed have problem when he play drive in off side. It is better to leave the ball. If you want to play drive then play it near to your body not away from your body with good footwork. This is actually a technique for every batsman.
Sir, only new coach can improve the basic technique of some players. Woolmer is not faithful to his job. Thats why we lost test series.
Sir for world cup we need some more players in squad.
    Mohammad Rauf bowler
    Samiullah Bowler
    Riffatullah Batsman
    Shahid Yousaf Batsman
    Azhar Mehmood Batsman
    Mohammad Fayaz Batsman
    Hassan Raza Batsman

Sir I hope you will take my suggestions seriously.
    With Regards!
    Adeel Qayyum.
