Via e-mail from Urooj who was one of the journalists arrested at the peace rally outside the Karachi Press Club this afternoon, and who has now been released along with all detainees from both the Docks Police Station and the Clifton Police Station in Karachi, where below she sheds light on why the stand-off took place between journalists who were given release orders and police:
Four of our senior office bearers (journalists) were missing, and we said we will not leave until EVERYONE is released. The missing people were then traced out, and we were all “let go of.” Detainees from all the police stations congregated outside the Clifton police station, where we raised hell before proceeding to the press club, where we raised hell gain.
We’ll all go home now. Another rally has been planned for tomorrow. Yes, we’re incorrigible. This is a long war, but us journalists stood together and won the battle today. I’m grateful for all the support. You guys rock! : )
