Today the rally at the Karachi Press Club organized by number of organizations for the Black Flag Week was a tremendous success, estimates across the spectrum were around 10-15,000 people in attendance. It was attended by a number of political parties, NGO’s, lawyers, traders, reform groups and civil society groups of which namely the People’s Resistance.
The main event was in the parking area located behind the Karachi Press Club where a large number of people sat patiently to hear the speeches from the guest line up which included amongst many others namely Fakhruddin Ibrahim, Rashid Rizvi and Munir Malik. It was a delight to see that the main venue filled to to its capacity very early on and forced the remaining participants into the overflow area in front of the press club, the organizers had made elaborate arrangements with loud speakers in this area but it did little to quench the charged up atmosphere and the crowd outside continued chanting slogans for the restoration of Judiciary and in a small (but large way) held their own mini-jalsa in tandem
The event started roughly on time and lasted for a good two hours worth of speeches and intermittent naray-bazi (chanting) to end at around 5:30 PM, it was then that Rasid Rizvi and Fakhrddin Ibrahim lead a peaceful protest march towards the Supreme Court building located a mile away in front of Shaheen Complex. The protest ended with another round of short but rousing speeches by Rashid Rizvi and a few lawyers congratulating the people of Karachi to have stood up for the restoration of the judiciary in Pakistan.
