Soomro’s royal pilgrimage cost Pakistan $2.8m

The Nation published a news item highlighting the lavish spending done by the caretaker Prime Minster Muhammadmian Soomro when he took a few day sojourn to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. The state visit damaged our national exchequer to the tune of over $2.8 Million / equivalent to Rs 196 Million, since a Boeing 777 was brought into the maintenance shop to convert the aircraft into executive settings which apparently took over two days, then his Majesty flew to Makkah while he performed his rituals and begged for forgiveness the aircraft stood parked for four days to finally bring the entourage back to Pakistan. I wonder if he may even be a little guilty of this wastage and to know that he will finally be answerable to God for this blatant wastage while his people remain starving due to the crushing economy, the Rs 196 million could have given an astronomical number of people food for an entire month, just the thought of such wastage warrants that these leaders be tried for high treason

The Nation: Soomro’s ‘royal pilgrimage’ cost PIA $2.8m By Amraiz Khan – A visit of former caretaker Prime Minister Muhammadmian Soomro to Saudi Arabia for Umrah cost PIA $2.8 million while a Boeing 777 was used for the purpose, an expert on aviation said that the aircraft could have earned $2.8 million had it been utilized for the commercial flights. Perhaps Mian Soomro went to Makkah to seek divine guidance, but it is worth mentioning here that the Prime Minister was not invited by the Saudi Arabian authorities.

Boeing 777, was used with VVIP configuration, sleeping beds, bathroom, conference area, sitting and dining room facilities. The said aircraft was in a PIA hangar at least 48 hours before the ‘Royal pilgrimage’ to Makkah, undergoing checks and configuration changes. Interim PM Soomro was not even officially invited for pilgrimage, unlike the Iranian President Ahmedinejad, who went on a normal aircraft, while being an official Royal guest. However, PIA in the process lost $2.8 Million that it could have earned, had the aircraft been utilized for commercial flights. The airline is presently facing losses of over Rs 1.2 billion a month.

When contacted PIA authorities said that in the past airbus aircraft was used for the VVIP movement but now the rulers use aircraft they want

When will we come to know the expenses incurred in carrying two party heads (not the PM, nor MNAs) to Dubai and London, having lavish dinners, riding in hot cars and accompanied by a delegation of around 4-5 members each?

I am very surprised that suicidail bombers never see such a real targets for eliminating evils from society and instead of such characters they prefer to choose that class for killings that is also being targeted by this kind of ruling mafia. So one can say that middle and lower class in Pakistan are being targeted from two sides.
