I have been in receipt of this extensive list of Asif Zardari’s Local and International holdings sent to me via a number of sources, in all honesty I have no way of precisely confirming the authenticity of this list but place it on this blog in an attempt to figure out what true what is simply hype. There is little doubt in my mind that this list may be quite close to being authentic considering the massive corruption that has plagued Pakistan in his previous two tenures in power, little to know that the Metamorphosis of 2008 which changed the way he appeared orchestrated after the assassination of his wife on 27th December 2007. Are we to believe in a ‘rejuvenated, honest by-the-books leader’, or are we gearing up to push Zardari further up into Pakistans Rich List of 2008 where he was previously ranked at #2.
I can also suspect that the sudden revelation if this list could be a deliberate retaliation by the ‘agencies’ to push Zardari on the back foot and move off Musharraf’s impeachment attack. Whatever be the case this massive list is jaw dropping amazing, I have no idea about the total valuation of the wealth itemized here but I suspect it could easily be an aggregated wealth as listed = £900m / ($1.8billion) or more

Riaz – the problem that has plagued our nation is the fact that our judiciary has never been bold enough to question / investigate these corruption charges on its own two feet, they have forever been at the mercy of the ruling commander and hence Zardari could stand up behind the fig leaf and still have the galls to say ‘meaningless corruption charges’
The public perception has generally been that they were corrupt – you and i know these stories are no ficticuious tales and quite closer to the truth. Even today – I interact with one to many business men to actually have witnessed the going % rise to well over 35% stark contrast to the old 10% cut. Many have said the 35% is the bottom end of any bargaining – its usually starts a lot higher
I feel the only way to come to a conclusion is to have an independent judiciary which can investigate and prove these cases / allegations false – had if these charges been cooked up [which I highly suspect not to have been] then why did Zardari need an NRO to whitewash ALL his outstanding cases [tarnishing the public perception even further]- if he had been clean then even an independent court system which would then have helped him resurrect the public impression would have served better then to walk into the present Pakistani courts armed with an NRO and suddenly cleanse everything on one whim or another.
Since he is a politician then its all about public perception – that is what makes or breaks a politician – any other person can do whatsoever he pleases
On the other hand the swiss court cases were definitely finding him guilty had were also left abandoned since the Govt of Pakistan found a deal with Zardari – that case was left dangling cause the NRO helped him whitewash that case as well.

Independent Judiciary is oxymoron. It does not exist in any country. Judges are appointed by politicians, and render verdicts with that bias. You can have the appointed by any other means, but that element of politics will always remain.
Heck, Senators are not even elected in our country. Our constitution needs overhaul.
Congratulations to the blessed nation of Pakistan on the appointment of President Zardari. Any nation, where he can become the president, obviously deserves him.

I have known Asif Zardari since Kindergarten. His real name was Asif Ali Balouch, his dad was Hakim Ali Balouch, and he went to Karachi Grammar School from class 2 to class 9th. He was kicked out of school for his criminal activities. Example is he used to bully weaker kids to give him money for lunch etc..if not he used to tell them that he would GIRAFTAR (Arrest) them after school and beat them up along with his buddies.On one occasion he was beaten by a guy named Masood Rehman who later went to Bangladesh. He started his career as a thug and later went to Petaro college.
All of the above assets are just a few, there are more in Dubai,etc. He also owned a stable in Islamabad with one of his buddy who presently is an ambassador to Korea, or Hong Kong. The stable was air conditioned and the feed for the studs was imported from overseas.

Well i can’t beleive this unless its authenticity is confirmed. I have no doubt about his previous record of corruption but he could be a changed man as is apparently obvious from his conduct and the level of maturity that he is demonstrating. I personally, doubt his wealth is as claimed by this article. Most of this information is old (especially about his US assets). Zardari used many front men and companies to do his dirty work. The ex-chairman of the CDA, from the 90’s, was one of these people. I read in the late 90’s that he (I cannot recall his name) was purchasing a $15 million building in Washington, DC. Very doubtful that money could come from the CDA chairman alone.
All this is not going to matter now. These stories are only good for Pakistanis to speculate upon.
Someday, we will have books and possibly movies made of this corruption. So come on people, get busy and write. The Pakistani public is just awaiting more drama.
