I have been forwarded these pictures of a famous religious poet [naat khawan] Owais Raza Qadri [official website] which I am told were taken last year when the poet received the Govt of Pakistan award for the Best Naat Khawan of 2007, and the consequent celebration was telecasted live on QTV [Quran TV].
Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri, 38 year old young man has achieved much and is a highly celebrated Naat Khawan with many TV appearances in various channels across Pakistan and to add to his fame he also has quite a large number of much sought after naat audio albums to his name
These are two images, both showing him sitting on a weighing scale while he is being weighed in gold, in certain sects of Islam this actually signifies a mark of respect for a Naat Khawan who has sung many naats in praise of Muhammad (PBUH), mind you this gold is not for any personal benefit but is actually going towards Zakat charity alone [I am told].

Alhaj Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri, born on 8th. July 1970 in Karachi, Pakistan]. He is Intermediate in academic qualifications. He has performed several Hajj and Umras, the first Umra being in 1992 while the first Hajj in 1996. His favorite personality is Alahazrat, Mujaddid-e-Din-o-Millat Imam Shah Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi. He started reciting naats at the age of 8. He was inspired by AlHaaj Yousuf Ashrafi (late) who was his ideal Naat Khawan. He did not take special naat classes but acquired the companionship of good, pious “Ushaqaan-e-Rasool“. Reciting the Naat of Imam-e-Ahle-sunnat, Alahazrat Shah Ahmed Raza Khan Sahib Barelvi is liked by Owais Raza Qadri. His first album was released in 1983 and after that numerous albums have been released.
I actually choose to question the reasoning behind this elaborate ceremony, our so called preachers of Islam I fear will in effect set a bad precedence for future generation of muslims, transforming the religion from a simple faith based religion into a tradition filled bidat prone Islam far different from the one conceived by our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) some 1400 years back.
This is naturally my own personal opinion and I do not mean to disgrace any religious leader as I am open to discussion below on what is right or wrong as I truly feel that herein lies one answer to the reckless religion problem prevalent in Pakistan. Literally with so many flavors of Islam being preached on the streets of Pakistan we have definitely lost our purity and have in turn opened the door to a pandoras box of Islamic beliefs, ranging from the pure simplicity concept towards the overtly complicated ritual based Islam and intermingled somewhere in between we have the suicide motivator mullah preaching the students to use the bomb vest as an immediate pathway to heaven. Is this what Islam was truly meant for? Is this what was preached to us 1400 years back? that said I am sure it was surely NOT this ritualistic gold weighing ceremony of Maulan Owais Raza Qadri conducted on live TV. Is this what we want our future generations to believe in. I know that I am most definitely stepping into hot territory but feel its high time we stepped up to answer this question.

Dr Awab, While I admire your alarmist reaction to this ceremony, I am surprised to see the difference in your devotion at ‘seeking the truth’ via your blog or just simply bringing up controversies for an ‘open discussion’ and page hits.

This was funny mostly. Just as it’s great fun watching Qadri’s shows where they will entertain all variety of vocal variations, mimmicing every musical instrument without actually playing one. This stretch of imagination – I mean vocal chords – is quite startling. It’s an ingenious way to ‘stay within the limitations imposed by Islam’.
Indeed, nothing of this sort is preached in true spirit of Islam. Respect is one thing, idolatory another. I wonder what good did it do to the famous Naat Khawan apart from earnest respect! A simple award ceremony to acknowledge his contributions.
I think this Qadri and QTV are doing Islam a disservice by projecting a distorted version of Islam, a version which quentissentially revolves around shallow and hollw rituals and is deviod of the true spirit of Islam. Love for Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is an essnetial part of Islam but it reuires one to follow the teachings of Prophet (SAW) faithfully, not to engage in these rituals. And weihging in gold of all the things? Unfortunatley, they have reduced Naat Khawani to a level of a public spectacle, it was an act of expression of one’s devotion and love for the Prophet, a very personal expression, not to be made a public spectacle like this. This is totally wrong thing and such a group of peoples are always find doing bidat.Bidat is a great sin. According to the hadith, bidat is mardood (no-good/ useless) it is gumrahi (deceiving) sharrul umoor (evil order); it is the means of the curse of Allah, and Rasul (S), and the Angels and people. One who honors a bidati (person doing bidat) is cursed.

oh u all so called ulmas! who can u declare that bidaat. let me tell as per my knowledge and understanding bidaat is something added in the formula set by Allah and Rasool (PBUH). You people will admire a singer weighted in gold but not a naat reciter, because we want to see our religious type of people always depending upon others. In Saudia the Imam are Govrnment responsibility and here they have to collect chanda so that they would be depending on the person who main source of Cahanda. Let me share my personal experience here:
The place I am residing is fast developing Muslim country,(not in Pakistan and I can not mention the name) any blogger can go prison for period without trial for years. Few days back, a blogger went to prison without charge for brining up the story of a high government official being involvement in a murder and blowing body with explosive of his girl friend.

Not only our Muslim governments has lost that, but as individuals also have become above that rule which is basis of Islam. Today we take out gun, if questioned.
The place I am residing is the most expensive housing in this country, a house costs over a million $, just outside the housing is a mosque. Most of the residents are Muslim and few non Mulsim. The IMAM in mosque pulled a cable from mosque in to housing area and right beside my house put 4 huge powerfull loudespeakers.
For purpose of Azan, it is alright, but unfortunately, he would wake up at 4 AM, put a cassette in Mosques loud speaker and open volume at full. This will go on till prayer. Same in evening, he will start his speach at 5PM and continue untill 10 PM in night.
The sound is so loud that we can not even take phone calls in side our house, can not sleep or even talk even after closing our windows. Although everyone have to work here from morning to evening and needs some rest or sleep in night, IMAM dont care!
When we told the IMAM that this was disturbing our work, sleep and rest……..the same evening he made a speach calling each of us 'KAFIR' by name….we were only able to get these speakers removed by requesting 'town council', which acted with reluctance, as they are also scared of 'mad mullah'.
My neighbours include IG Police, State Secratery and Deputy Chief Minister of state….but all are powerless before a 'Mullah', although they can send a blogger to jail, sending a 'Mullah' toprison with bring a countrywide political storm.
Just imagine what will happen to this place in comming times and what 'policmen' of Islam are doing to it for personal gains.

Once i went through site and beliefs of same sect & Party Mulana Awais Raza Qadri belongs to and was wondered his own leaders declared it wrong to take “ujrat” on reciting Naats. I was deperate to learn he is going against the beleifs of his own leaders and very said favourite personality.
barelvism is a twisted combination of Shia Belief and hindu culture belief. This sect has nothing original and always copied things from others.
Being a member of barelvi community I have seen like Koonday(Shia thing),bowing on shrines(Hindu thing), partying in name of Milad and what not. There is also video of DJ Qadri of same incident. Qadri and Co were banned in Saudia after violating laws by playing Jhankar beats at Masjidul Haram and at Arafat.

The way DJ qadri and his fellows say naats, it comes under category of “Singing”. Awab is not wrong at all. DJ Qadri and Co,Najam Shiraz sing naats with jhankar beats. This is not how Naat and Hamd r said but then Barelvis want to promote “moderate” version so “Sab chalta hay”.
Another fact of barelvis that they just busy in copying stuff from other religions and culture. They have nothing original. At one side Barelvis cursed Tableeghi Jamat while on other hand they have their own version of Tableeghiat in form of “Dawat-e-Islami” and their “Raiwind” is in Multan. Offcourse we all know about their “Sahra-e-Madina”. This copy cat cult also have extremist wing in form of Hari Pagri(Totay),Brown Turban etc but so called barelvi liberals cunningly and ignorantly don’t dare to discuss filth within their own community.

Mualana Owais Qadri has always been a controversial person. But no one, not even Salafi / Wahabis deny his absolute control over his beautiful voice. If the above mentioned ceremony was done for Zakat / Khairat, I think there is no issue with it. People who can afford it should do it to help fellow Muslims. But if it was done as a show off, which I don’t think so, it is in bad taste.

For singing/reciting/screaming about Mohammad SAW, who, as we all know except this fat guy and his friends, hardly ever ate full meal, slept on floors without a pillow. Repute is very important to lead the nation at right track. Mulana having a very good reputation but I don’t know what to comment on these pictures may be fake. Mulana should himself give the clarifications, because million of people have a great regard about him. So, whatever the situation is Mulana should give the complete clarification on this act in line of Islam.

salam to all, those people who idolate this guy are totally misguided just as he is!!!! my cousin! yes my cousin sponsored one of his shows in a mosque today, and i went along to see it and I was shocked at the amount of hatred he was preaching to illiterate and dumb people! this guy is just a money maker and he is fooling people who have no knowledge of islam to make his fortune! my cousin and his friends paid £500 for one hour show!!! half of that time was wasted instilling hatred against wahabis! and I as a wahabi can tell you that my tutors never taught us to ridicule anyone! I was once beaten by my tutor/ustad for cheeking shikhism as a child! these so called lovers of the prophet don't even follow the basic sunnah's of the prophet, and claim that they love the prophet by singing naats! the mosque that he came to is run by my cousins, who have no even basic knowledge of islam, it is people like these that mr qadri and co target to make their millions! now lets turn the page over, in our wahabi mosque, junaid jamshed was invited and he came hapily recited naats the way they should be recited and the cost was mighty! freeeeee!!!!! why does mr qadri ridicule another sect? did the prophet ever ridicule anyone? if he (qadri)is a true lover of the prophet, then he should go to every mosque regardless who prays there and he should go for free! in his naat singing session, he sang many naats full of shirk upon shirk, but unfortunatley the illiterate crowd don't understand what he is saying and hapily sing along! the mosque that he went to, when it comes to fajar salah time there is only 3 people who attend! and you walk around the corner to the wahabi mosque and it has about 40 to 50 people who attend the fajar salah! and these so called barelvis/sunnis are in majority here! every year there is atleast 3-5 children who do quran hafiz in the wahabi mosque, and in the sunni mosque not 1 hafiz has been produced in the last 25 years! amazing isn't it? the lovers of the prophet can't produce a hafiz! this is proof that allah the almighty is naraz with them! allah almighty is protecting his book, like he promised through the wahabis!

this is not wrong according to islam. this celebration is totally halal. however, if future generations follow this and if such projects by qtv or other channels become a tradition then it will truly become haram and bidah. otherwise they have not crossed their limited as many people think so what if its innovational idea etc. but is doees not go against the quran and sahih hadith.
and one more thing there are many tv channels in pakistan that claim to be islamic but broadcast such wierd tv programs for example one programme that comes on dm ditigital (i dont remember the name of the programme) but a lady sits with sime huge cards with pictures on them. then see get phone calls by the views in order for them find out their future and qismat etc by picking random cards. ehat fuck fuck is all that about………..
furthermore, I would also like to mention that some ways may look misleading but in fact they are not. many people think that everything is haram in islam exept what is stated to be halal. In fact its the other way around, every thing is halal in islam except what is stated to be haram. similarly this celebration is also halal if it does not break the laws of the shariah. one should bear in mine that islam allows u to do everything but with limits due to valid reason which many people like me and u dont have the brain to think about, so we do not realise. instead we argue over such useless points. many of us even read the translation of the quran and thus dont know the meaning. further we also havent read the full hadith books. i can garantee 100% that no one who has posted their cmment here knows the quran or hadith properly ont even me. many think that just because theve read the translation of the quran and/or the hadith books they know their stuff, which in fact is not the case. such books need to be tuaght to us in the original languge and not in its translation. without this propel study we just fight over some random topic thats been posted on the internet with the half of the story. i mean how many of you in here have seen the full broadcating before looking at the two pictures and reading this page. many stupid people have just posted half of vid on youtube only showing owais bhai sitting on the wieghing scale andd name it such as belvi exposed etc. its so stupid why do such thing. what would you think if u seen only these two pics for the first time. ive seen the whole programe live and they said at the begginning that they will wiegh owais bhai in gold and sell the gold off and then use the money for charity.
people must think but without knowing the full thing they shouldnt past it on to others as doubts are crated and such doubts a dangrous. however, people celebrating in a such way should take care not beacause they doing anyting wrong. but because they should think for future generation. future generation will see this and people that are not propley educated will fight over this and some will think it right will do it over and over agian until it becomes a tradition. now here it gets wrong, this is why they should try to aviod such activities which doesnt neccessarly means that it becomes haram. this is why there are limitations in islam. for example naats itself, there no where in the quran or the hadith stated that naats are haram. there halal. but music is haram due to the fact that it makes people do nxt level things if they get too passionate about singing etc. naats are allowed as naats are to praise the prophet muhammad pbuh. however you can not make the prophet into god so say something like i see god in you, which wrong and it become a shirk. some people do this in naats, and especially in songs. this is why music is haram and only the daff (one sided light sound drum) is allowed. therefore in such occasions on tv channels they should bear in mind if this done of show off who care you just keep your intention clean and if you think that this is wrong then just avoid it.

what on earth are you talking about Nabeel??? ok some parts were right about the sects and stuff but why are saying that reading a naat is wrong, and where on earth can you see poeple dancing???? we read the naat because we have love for the prophet (saw) i dont get why you think this is a bad thing?? im sure youve heard a sahaba used to read poetry (naat) to the prophet (saw) and the prophet (saw) liked it. do you read durood sharif in namaz? yes or no ofcourse you do that is sending durood, salaam and blessings on the prophet (saw) and reading the naat is durood and blessings too if you think reading naat is wrong then why do you read durood in namaz? omg you poeple just dont want to understand OPEN YOUR EYES! do you follow sunnat of prophet? ofcourse you do. why do you do it? because you have love for the prohpet (saw) which is why we read naat because we have love for prophet Muhammad (saw) and we get sawaab for sending blessings on the prophet (saw) and i agree with Muhammad Asaad 🙂 please OPEN YOUR EYES! AHLE-SUNAT-WAL-JAMAAT is the true way!

Y we should always make wahabis understand, THEY CANT coz Allah have put veil on their eyes. so better not to discuss Islam coz for them Islam became a debate platform for them its worthless to discuss they only know to attack people who dont know islam lyk youngsters which they can a majority throughout the world. Me only what ocuppied me is that Y they dont debate with Aaleem e Deen instead debating with People. They only know that Bukhari Shareef as authentic Hadith but "how they know in Kabr there is 3 question as in bukhari shareef there is only 2 question". So they all want to become great great Mufassir,Mufti and all that when they dont know the truth themselves. They learnt a bit and they preach lyk long rope. So better not to discuss with them.

what i read in namaz is durood e ibrahim … which states that O Allah bless Mohammad saw and his followers like you blessed Ibrahim and his followers ….. its a simple dua … whence naat and mehfil e miilad and what do you call it that thursday night thingy of your deviant sect dawat e islami where da religious scholar is literally distributing "tajallis" to his followers … that is all a part of your ahle sunnat …

love of prophet is following the prophet not praising him … just because some of you wear islamic perfumes , white shalwar kameez with painchas up on your knees , and green turbans doesnt mean that you are the closest to him …. you can only be close to him if you have his eeman … his tawwakul .. his helplessness in front of Allah … his resignation in front of ALlah … that is what he taught us … submittance of your will to Allah … all the prophets in the world combined are nothing in front of Allah … the king of the heavens and the earth … got it ?????
