A few days ago an Indian publication carried a report claiming that the Lal Masjod cleric Maulana Abdul Ghafar, who is a close relative of Maujlana Abdul Rashid Ghazi, who was killed by security forces during Operation Silence in July 2007, said that President Zardari’s indecent gestures, filthy remarks and repeated praise of a non-Muslim lady wearing a short skirt is not only un-Islamic but also unbecoming of a head of state of a Muslim country.
DNA India: President Zardari’s indecent gestures, filthy remarks and repeated praise of a non-Muslim lady wearing a short skirt is not only un-Islamic but also unbecoming of a head of state of a Muslim country. He said that the manner in which Zardari shook hands with Sarah Palin and expressed his deep desire to hug her is intolerable and shameful. “We are fighting the American war in our country and thousands of our people have been killed just to please Uncle Sam. Therefore, we demand that the military operation in the Pak-Afghan tribal areas be immediately stopped as it is creating hatred amongst the general public against the Pakistan army”, he added.
But a day later a strong rebuttal was issued and published by Khaleej Times
Khaleej Times: A spokesman for the Lal Masjid (Red Mosque) prayer leader has denied reports in the Indian media that it has issued a ‘fatwa’ (edict) against President Asif Zardari over his encounter in New York with Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
The incident in which Zardari praised Sarah Palin as ‘gorgeous’ and said he could even ‘hug’ her when asked by an aide to again shake hands, has generated a heated controversy in Pakistan. “There is no truth in this report,” said Mufti Amir Siddique described He accused Indian channels of spreading such rumours to ‘destabilise’ Pakistan.
“It was sexist and amounts to flirting with a lady,” internationally renowned human rights activist Asma Jehangir told Geo TV. Surprisingly the critics also include liberal lobbies as well. A former federal minister Nilofar Bakhtiar had to resign when she was greeted by an aged French trainer after a successful jump from a glider in Paris.
Considering that we in Pakistan know our breed of religious fanatics, it was definitely not inconceivable to have one of our Mullahs issue a ‘fatwa’ as such when i read the DNA report a few days back. I was surprised but not entirely shocked to say the least. Today when Khaleej Times published a clarification it just brings about a sigh of relief that our Maulvi’s aren’t THAT stupid [Link to the idiotic Maulvi circus in Pakistan in announcing Eid!!!]
IT was not a fatwa, actually Molvi of LAL Masjid decleared him to be out of ‘diara i Islam’ (only these fanatics know where this ‘circle lies’) for shaking hands with Palin, in his speach on last Friday and this was reported by Pakistani urdu media as well.
The same insane creatures issued fatwa against Nelofar when she was jumping to raise money for victims of earth quake.
Just wait for your turn ………lol
Ok so our enlightened lot has got live again. Forget whether Fatwa was issued or not since your blog referrs different sources which questions about the authenticity, the question is whether he was acting decent? No, He was not and it was not raised by “molvis” but many Pakistanis who live in US and didn’t like such “friendly[read cheap] geasture”.
so according to our broad-minded(or I say leaked minded), if some elder of their family would have been found busy in flirty with any woman on road or in a party and his wife would have said anything against such gesture then such moderates were going to declare the wife of woman a “Mullani” or extremist or anything else just because she finds it indecent? Just curious! *grin*
*wife of man*
Silence, what about the fatwa issued by another “Insane Creature”[as you mentioned above] on this blog. How should we treat such insane intellectual creatures exist among us. How can we getrid of them? Please enlighten us.
Silence is the one who preaches tolerance when it comes to Qadianis and Shias but when it comes to Sunnis and Moluvis all his tolerance preachings are set aside and he would start the old practice of Kaley Angrez and start Mullah bashing…
and how can he avoid it this time? when his beloved Zardari is underfire….
Lagey raho Zardari. Fiqh-e-PPP balkey Fiqh-e-Secularism main apko sab cheez kee ijazaat hai.
1.“Today when Khaleej Times published a clarification it just brings about a sigh of relief that our Maulvi’s aren’t THAT stupid. …. Indian channels of spreading such rumours to ‘destabilise’ Pakistan.”

So why “this” mullah-bashing (notwithstanding your gripe about the Eid chand unhappiness – albeit many of us are NOT big fans of some of our Mullahs). Let’s stop such discourses which will lead to nowhere but to a cul-de-sac –- and only provide a fodder for the bigots keen on sowing dissensions, stirring up strife, spreading mutual fear and hatred amongst us.
Let us atleast during Eid days try NOT to stir up controversies based on Indian or chauvinistic notions.
Wanderer, if you would have wandered a bit then you would have learnt a bit the “version” of tolerance these guys preach which is really not new for me, atleast on Internet and other media so please don’t be a spokesman or use “other” alias to be a devil’s advocate. Noone here is supposed to agree with me so you are also free to disagree. I just provided the link of his/her “fatwa” he/she issued about Umra.
Fatwa of Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman to celebrate Eid on 1st oct is dubious in some part of lahore and other cities are celebrating eid 2day.
please write down on dis issue
Mufti follow the evidence of that province where we are bombarding means Sarhad else there were no evidence of moon sighting… Are our Mufties taking education/direction from evangelists?
Are our Mufties taking education/direction whether from evangelists or terrorists?
My appologies, but where did I try to be a devil’s advocate? all I wanted was to support your comments with mine.
Was that a bad idea?
I wonder when would these Maulvis issue fatwa against burning down girl’s schools, beating women in public, and slaughtering people as punishment, and so on.
I’d say it’s about time for us to stop being politically correct and to call these Muslim thugs what they are … thugs trying to push their weight around in the name of religion. And, for those of you bloggers who are trying to blame Palin for this, you’re just as ridiculous as the Muslim thugs and their fatwa.
P.S. It’s time to take a contract out on these Muslim thugs who are issuing fatwas, so that they can get a dose of their own medicine.
Wanderer, my apologies. Actually silence’s wisdom made me speechless that I could not differentiate. 🙂
Here are FATWA’S of “ISLAMIC” scholars that Quaid i Azam was a “KAFIR”, “MURTAD” and “LIABLE TO BE KILLED”….Some of FATWAS against Quiad were signed by ‘ULMA’ from all over India, from each and every village.
He was declared “Secular”, “DOG” and whever praise Jinnah, his “Nikah” becomes viod.
My suggestion for all “MOMEN” and “Thekedars of Islam” is to leave this “KAFIRISTAN” and “Pleadistan” alone……we are seculars and Kafirs, as the “Father of Nation” himself was a secular and Kafir.
You can go to Afghanistan, join your Mujahid brothers and have fun with B52 bombers.
First ‘Ulma” were against this country, now they are destroying it with their SUICIDE bombing with Indian money and Americans explosives.
Since religion was never my forte, I will jump in with my own take in this debate.
Both AZ and SP are politically corrupt and not very smart people.
AZ was one suicide bomber away from power, that has come to pass.
And as a US TV anchor put it, SP is one heart beat of a 72 year old man away from power…
Some thing to think about eh!
Slience mian, Ironically Seculars label Jinnah as a person who have no knowledge of Islam so actually both extreme left and extreme right could not understand Jinnah at all. Seculars made poor Jinnah a “A person have no knowledge of Islam and Islam” while in reality Jinnah knew about Shariah of Muhmmad(S.A.W) more than left liberals and right scholars. As Jinnah said:
It is my belief that our salvation lies in following the golden rules of conduct set for us by our great lawgiver, the Prophet of Islam. Let us lay the foundations of our democracy on the basis of true Islamic ideals and principles(Civil, Naval, Military and Air Force Officers at Khaliqdina Hall Karachi on 11th October 1947)
What is it that keeps the Muslims united as one man, and what is the bedrock and sheet-anchor of the community. It is Islam. It is the Great Book, Quran, that is the sheet-anchor of Muslim India. I am sure that as we go on there will be more and more of oneness, one God, one Book, one Prophet and one Nation(All-India Muslim League, Karachi on 26th December 1943)
If Jinnah was labeled as Kafir then secular extremist of that time and even current time label him as a Secular or a person who didn’t want Islam and Sharian in new state. His words are quite clear. Seculars on other hand cunningly twisted his words of 11th August speech and did propaganda about a dead man which is disgrace for the personality like Jinnah but truth can’t be hidden. Only those make noise more who try to hide truth. What Jinnah was is quite visible in these two speeches. He knew about the Prophet(S.A.W) more than so called liberals of that time who still say Pakistan was not obtained for sake of Muslims lead life according to Islamic belief.
May Allah saves us from leftist cabal of Pakistan-Ameen.
Yaseen Ch, I do agree with you but then this difference was created in the era of secular dictator Musharraf. Its been 20 years since Zia has died. It’s such a lame and useless whining. What was done after Zia in past 20 years? there was no Molvi govt in past 20 years, Pakistan was ruled by a secular in past 8 years and then yet another leftist is ruling, why don’t these guys try to fix things rather blaming the past like losers? Zia ki haddian bhe gal gaye hongi aur these guys kept mourning for the past. This is nothing but a loser act.
well, what zia done cannot be corrected any soon because he changed the mentality of whole nation and what Musharraf did was actually the reaction of Zia’s action we can call it a balancing move . but because they both were dictators they only end up creating a class gap in our society which has crossed all boundaries now.
well,Adnan ! you can write but we must not label ourselves like liberals, moderates, terrorist ,molvis, narrow minded ,we are all Pakistanis and please don't differentiate on such basis . This will only harm not benefit.
Silence (or democracy kai thekedar),
You guys claim to be “THE TOLERANTS”, “THE DEMOCRATS”, “PLURALISTS” blah blah blah… but when it comes to Ulema, you want them to speak and think what you would like to dictate.
Why can’t Ulema have a different opinion? or since they live in Pakistan they are required to have the same opinions and theories as your Beloved Zardari or the KING OF SECULARISM-ALTAF HUSSAIN?
What happened to your freedom of expression here? this just proves how hypocrite you are
Now lets look at what the SECULARISTS have given to Pakistan
Bhutto and General Yahaya didn’t graduate from a Madrassa. They were as “Kaley Angrez” as the best we can be. While Bhutto claimed to be a democratic leader, he didn’t accept the mandate and success of Najeeb Ahmed……
Was it Ulema of Pakistan who said “Udhar tum, idhar ham?” or was it the Ulema of Pakistan who said to his lotas that he will break their legs if they went and listened to Najeeb in East Pakistan?
Was it Ulema, who implemented the Quota system in Pakistan? and thus destroying all the institues of Pakistan
Was it Ulema who nationalized all the industries and thus break the back-bone of Pakistan?
Was it Ulema who nationalized Educational Institutions and thus put Pakistan into fast track to destruction
Was it Ulema of Pakistan who sold Doctor Afia to your dad?
and the list can go on and on…….
Before telling the Momins to get out of Pakistan, why don’t you come to Pakistan from Malaysia and fight along your brothers in Bajur.
Why hire poor souls for Rs 3000 per month, to do your dirty work and you and your beloved leaders live in Palaces and distant lands
QaimKhani Sahab, wow wow wow! what a nice slap on these so called educated guys wandering in jeans and t-shirts and using bahar ki shaving cream.
Offcourse these guys will hide in bin or would start naming calling and call you a zealot or what not. they will come out again when Awab would make another topic which would turn them on again. Filhal they are tired and resting.
Thanks for this piece. It would be helpful for those readers who are not aware about many things and often get fooled in the name of these liberals.
p.s: Awab keep creating such posts as it exposes more about those moderates who are actually not moderate at all.
These thugs will not rest, they want to push Muslims against the wall and take Pakistan to the same situation as Algeria…
May Allah save us and save Pakistan from these thugs and their idealogies, AMEEEN.

“””””””””””””””‘Was it Ulema of Pakistan who sold Doctor Afia to your dad?”””””””””
What do you expect from me to answer?
Well, I can say NO, “It was actually your mother who sold her, as she stays in red lite area and runs that business”.
But I wont say that, because it will put me at equal footings with a fanatic animal like you, I hope, next time you can be careful about your words.
But I dont expect anything better coming from you, neither from any other fanatic animal like you, who can use their mouth without using brains.
The comment posted to ,”Silence ” ……
Let us not bury our valid arguement in the heat of emotion.
Sometimes the best response is actually ,SILENCE.
People on everything from sneezing to coughing can we stop involving Mullah and Pakistan.
Well Maulvis would issue a Fatwa,Zardari would Keep smiling and so would Sarah Palin
Each one has a different and personal response to shaking hand with a woman .It was only a hand shake.
Sometimes somethings just happen at the spur of the moment.
Let us not two minutes of Zardari with Sarrah rule rest of our lives.
That was one of the best reply to “Enlightened moderates” /secularists & ‘Peeplaas” that I’ve read.
As for “Silence” I will say that your reply to QaimKhani was hitting below the belt. That’s an ample proof OF YOUR DEFEAT
Insha Allah all of your likes will loose!
