In a video interview John Kiriakou, a former CIA counter-terrorism official reveals new information about the capture and torture of “high-value” detainee Abu Zubaydah. Abu Zubaydah was arrested in March 2002 in a joint operation with the CIA, FBI and Pakistani intelligence agents from Faisalabad, according to intelligence reports from the Bush administration who had wrongly tagged him as the No. 3 person in al-Qaeda and one of the planners of the 9/11 attacks.
Government documents declassified in the years showed that Zubaydah, in addition to being subjected to other brutal torture techniques [also reported by FBI Interrogator Ali Soufan during his congressional testimony in 2009], was waterboarded at least 83 times in a single month. There is to-date, according to Kiriakou no concrete evidence of Zubaydah’s direct involvement in the execution and planning of 9/11.
Following the torture of Abu Zubaydah in March 2002, John Kiriakou was transferred to overseeing the invasion of Iraq, where he had to sign sign six separate “secrecy agreements.” The Iraq invasion according to him was expertly planned well in advance, he even quotes to have ben told by a CIA director “We’re going to invade Iraq next spring. We’re going to overthrow Saddam Hussein. We’re going to establish the largest Air Force base in the world and we’re going to transfer everybody from Saudi Arabia to Iraq. That way, al-Qaeda won’t have that hanging over us, that we’re polluting the land of the two holy cities.”
Its surprising to hear how the world has continued to be made a fool of at the hands of the super-power of the world, they continue to do as they wish, only for us to stumble across such fragmented pieces of information mostly 8-9 years later after them having literally destroyed an entire nation on the mere whim.
Its quite possible John Kiriakou may just be “selling his book” [The Reluctant Spy: My Secret Life in the CIA’s War on Terror] but the insights, the documents and the narration that he shares in his book and the interview does show that there was definitely some degree of foul play on the part of the Americans in the huge war fiasco following the 9/11, than what the US Government cares to voluntarily divulge
Oft, I wonder who the real terrorist are, the inhumanity lives on both sides of the coin, yet we choose to label one as an allies while the other being stigmatized as terrorists, seemingly they both need to be condemned in the strictest possible way
