According to the BBC Urdu, the FBI has conceded that Dr. Afia Siddiqi who had vanished from Karachi over five years ago in March 2003 along with her children is in the custody of American forces in Afghanistan but sadly in a horrid medical condition
The information comes from BBC, when it received an email from lawyers based in the US hired by Dr. Afia’s brother to try and help influence the release of her sister who has been allegedly been in the custody of American forces. The lawyers claims that on Thursday an agent from the FBI came to Dr. Afia Siddiqui’s brothers house and admitted to the fact that Dr. Afia is indeed in solitary confinement within a prison in Afghanistan and in serious medical condition
It may be recalled that over five years ago Dr. Afia suddenly disappeared from Karachi along with her three children never to be seen from again, both the Pakistani and American forces have never acknowledged her disappearance until probably now, five years after her kidnapping. The admittance may well be attributed to the immense media pressure created when a number of human rights organizations presented evidence of a certain prisoner-of-war known as Prisoner 650 who was in terrible medical condition within an American prison located in Afghanistan and they had reason to suspect that Prisoner 650 was Dr. Afia Siddiqui
BBC Urdu reports that since Thursday’s development family members have been running from pillar to post in an attempt to wrangle more information on the whereabouts of Prisoner 650, but authorities have been tight lipped about the issue.
In all the frantic developments over the past three days the family within Pakistan has been on the receiving end, of anonymous threatening phone calls to try and subdue them to remain quite on the entire international issue.
Hopefully, Pakistanis will unite to demand the release of all Pakistanis who were kidnapped in this way, and handed over to the US [FBI Wanted Report, hunting for Dr. Afia] and often kept in solitary confinement in secret detention centers and tortured.
Pakistan’s parliament should hold an inquiry into this matter, and hold the guilty people accountable.

Wow, where have you been living manos? The land is owned and operated by THEM. The first version of the poem was written straight off on the computer as it came.Here is some finer touches I gave.It is in the form of a Rubayyat;

I am a retired Brigadier of the Pakistan Army -having retired about 14 years ago.The poem also reflects my anguish at the way some of my former comrades are degrading the fair name and image of the army I served in so proudly and fearlessly – as well as the name of our nation.The incident has forced me to do what ever I can to help the cause of her release.This is my first use of the pen to try and help.In my old age I cannot do much more – yet I pledge to do all I can.

Awam is NOT Awami League – but of, pertaining to, or affecting a population or a community as a whole. Furthermore, ‘Awam’ is pertaining or devoted to the welfare or well being or concerning or affecting the public. Furthermore, Awam is part of the community of believers – the Islamic Ummah.

Now that FBI has confirmed that prisoner # 650 Dr. Afia Siddiqui is in confinement of coalition forces in Afghanistan, all of us should strive for her release in whatever mental condition she is. It is the responsibility of the Pakistani nation as a whole to look after her and her kids.
But one thing which I would like to mention here is:While commenting on the unfairness by any person,community, organisation or a state, we shouldn’t loose our tempers, we should be rather level headed. Whatever did Musharraf does not mean that all people in the armed forces of Pakistan seconded this,perhaps they too were as helplessa as we all have been.
Secondly even if it is Musharraf, we should not get personal. We had had enough of personal politics in Pakistan (and as a matter of fact even today we are reaping the harvest of personal aggrandisement in our present day scenario. Time has now come that all of us should strive to strengthen the institutions in our country, be they the courts, the parliament or be they the bureaucracy.
All isntitutions must work according to merit, as our great Qaid ordained. Perons even if they behave ideally, are just mortals. Even the ideals can commit blunders. Its only the institutions which provide sanity to individual travailles, adentures, deeds and misdeeds. Hence friends! no more personal abuses. Strengthen the institutions and more sanity will come into our polity.
I would specially wish to mention here the efforts of people in US and the west who equally feel pained on excesases done by the neoconservatives under Bush administration. Today’s Dawn carries this report: Aafia Siddiqui, an MIT-educated Pakistani woman,has been brought to New York to face charges that she tried to kill U.S. agents and military officers during an interrogation in Afghanistan.Siddiqui, 36, was stopped by Afghan police on July 17(2008?!-query mine)) outside a government building, according to a criminal complaint. Police searched her handbag and discovered documents containing recipes for explosives and chemical weapons and describing “various landmarks in the United States, including New York City,” according to the complaint, which did not identify the landmarks. The next day, as a team of FBI agents and U.S. military officers prepared to question her, Siddiqui grabbed a rifle, pointed it at an army captain and yelled that she wanted blood, prosecutors said. An interpreter pushed the rifle aside as she fired two shots, which missed, they said. One of two shots fired by a soldier in response hit her in the torso. Even after being hit, Siddiqui struggled and shouted in English “that she wanted to kill Americans” before the officers subdued her, the complaint said.
Aafia’s family attorney, Elaine Whitfield Sharp,called the charges “a tall story.”

Her lawyers should urgently try to meet her and check out the her physical and mental state and fill in the missing blanks,these warmongering neocon republicans and their propaganda machine can’t be trusted. if she was arrest last month in Ghazni Afghanistan then where was she ever since 2003.they have even shot and injured her,i hope she could narrate the ordeal she went through
