India today is considered by the world to be an established state. Indians think they are on the brink of acquiring super power status. LeT on the other hand is a banned organization considered to be a terrorist non-state actor. So why is it that the belligerence and jingoism Indian state and media is what would be expected of an organization like LeT. How come Indian state is behaving like a terrorist organization?
Non-state violent actors, until recently have been called mercenaries and have been used, by different powers throughout human history. British imperialism started its life in this shape and form, the most famous being the East India Company. Sir Drake , Sir Raleigh and other such “privateers,” were all non state entrepreneurs who advanced state power. Lawless violence often preceded the rule of law.
More recently after the Second World War United States has employed several non-state forces in various parts of the world to further its foreign policy agenda, often at high human and economic cost to that country and its people. Ironically Afghanistan was one such theatre. The Indian support for Baluchistan insurgency is an open secret. There is a strength of evidence for Indian and US support for ‘Jihadist’ groups operating on Pakistani territories.
After the recent Mumbai attacks it has been claimed by India ( serious evidence still pending) that a non state actor LeT has infringed its territory and perpetrated lawless violence. Indian state and its leaders are now invoking this as a reason to respond in kind. The jingoistic antipakistani stance of Indian media and politicians is being built to hysterical levels. There have been calls to respond in ‘manner of United States’.
It is most disturbing that Indian government instead of behaving in a lawful manner befitting the largest country in the region, has tried its fullest to take ”advantage” of human misery in its own country and of its own people and made this a ‘Pakistan-centric’ event. When it should have been paying attention to healing its own wounds, India has seen it as an opportunity to salt these wounds and create fresh ones. And here the state has been led by hysterical media. That tells volume about the structural stability and framework of Indian institutions claimed to represent world’s largest democracy.
Indian state wants to behave like private bullies , justifying violence , revenge and torture just like non-state terrorists. As Arjvind Rajgopal has put it ‘War has become the preferred means of practicing politics under the guise of opposing terrorism, and it is endorsed as a sacred duty’.
India seems to be following in USSR tradition and trying to create an aura of invincibility for its own ego satisfaction without considering the hundreds of millions of its citizens who are hungry, poor and destitute. Is the death of nearly 250 people, mayhem for a few days in one city, a little hurt ego more important than the teeming masses who linger in poverty. Should India not be concentrating its efforts on spending money for creating infrastructure for its own; of education, health, transport , economic opportunities. Is it worth a war?
Common sense answer is ‘No’. So Why is it that certain parts of Indian media/intellectuals/politicians triumvirate, want India to respond in an American manner? Our analysis leads us to two reasons.
First, Indian leaders and intellectuals suffer from severe inferiority complex and generational anger lingering on from British Raj days. For all the talk of rising power of India and Indians taking over the world India is desperate to declare itself as a super power one way or another. Look closely at the pattern of Indian media’s coverage. It was not designed for Indian masses. It was designed to be fed to the international audeince, in particular US and UK citizens, whose gullibility has no limits. And it is seems India has decided that its response to Mumbai attack, (which by the way was smaller in number of casualties compared to 1993 or 2006 or Gujrat, just to quote few examples) is going to declare to the world that it has turned into a regional or world super power.
India has this complex about being ‘Like America’. This is no more than a sign of serious inferiority complex and insecurity of its own identity. The most obvious sign of this inferiority complex is that the event is described as India’s 9/11, with enemy intruders committing murder and mayhem. “9/11″ has become a nationalizing mantra across the globe, an invocation to remember violence in order to garner consent for violent retaliation.
No one has even considered that what the world has turned into after the American response. It is not as if the world has become a safer or better place that this response should be imitated. The signs of being super in power are maturity and sagacity. It is to reach out and stand against terrorism of any kind and take other ( in this case smaller) countries in the region with her. It is to lead. But has India done any of it ? No sir. So forget about being super in power. India needs to set its own house in order.
This brings us to the second reason behind India’s jingoistic stance. It is related to the long standing failure of Indian state. It has failed in three important respects. First, it has failed its own secularism and failed to forge an Indian nation; second it has failed its own poor in pure economic terms; and thirdly it has failed its Indianness in its eagerness to ape the west.
Not withstanding show boys of Indian Muslims (from Abul Kalam Azaad to M J Akbar) there is the increasing discrimination in civil society and the media against Muslims. Indian state continually fails to provide justice to its minorities and masses. Then there are Dalits, Chrsitians, Bhuddists, Tamils, Naxalites. The list goes on. I quote Gopal again:’ Muslims in India have, for some time, been treated as internal enemies, through a combination of covert and overt socio-economic boycotts, state discrimination, episodes of intense political violence, and anti-terror legislation granting judicial powers to police.’
And what is Indian response to all this. For Kashmir, it blames Pakistan; for the seven sister states Bangladesh is the culprit and China takes the blame for the Naxalite insurrection. India has been in a state of perpetual war due to its ego, border disputes with all its neighbours and misplaced priorities.
Then there are pure economic issues. Here again Indian leaders ego complexes have led to failure of its own people. This failure is villainous in part and negligent to criminal extent. It is multifold and multilayered. While ‘India is shining’ for an elite minority, the masses and the land is being opened up for a new form of colonialism for Bharati and multinationals corporations, in the name of reforms and progress.
What Indians have failed to grasp or at least have shown no capacity to put any such understanding into context is that they are seen as no more than a big economic market opportunity for western nations and corporations, due to sheer numbers. Research from the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) shows that within a generation, the country will become a nation of upwardly mobile middle-class households, consuming goods ranging from high-end cars to designer clothing. In two decades the country will surpass Germany as the world’s fifth largest consumer market. It is this which attracts West; not some attitudinal shift in Anglo-Saxon thinking. If they are under any illusion that suddenly Westerns have started seeing them as equal partners, all they have to do is to sit in few pubs across middle England. That shall be more than sufficient to clear such delusions of grandeur.
Consequently in the name of progress, poor are marginalized. Cities suffer from severe economic and social segregation. The slums for the poor are demolished and ghettos moved around. Muslim and Dalits in India are overwhelmingly concentrated in such ghettos and, in episodes of Hindu nationalist violence, have been the principal victims of assaults. It is not India shining. It is Bollywood shining and like tinsel town it is more razz matazz than substance . The Justice Sachar Committee, in 2006, reported that ‘the condition of Muslims had deteriorated to such a point that they were worse off than the untouchable caste, which has traditionally occupied the lowest rung of Indian society’. In some cases, Muslims are ostracized to the point of social death.
And for all the talk of famed reforms by the present Indian Prime Minister in early 1990s, when he was a finance minister, it was more a case of India being at the right place at the right time by sheer luck than any planned strategic goal achievement. Indian progress owes much to certain historical events converging fortuitously at the right time. The collapse of USSR forced India into balance payment crisis, forcing Rao and Singh’s hand to deliver economic reforms where by Licence Raj was ended. At about the same time seeds of globalization were being sown while West was recovering form the recessions of early 1990s. The scores of English speaking graduates of IIT were now suddenly available at cheap labour adding impetus to Indian preeminence as outsourced markets. Western corporations were looking for cutting their costs and they started outsourcing. Indian diaspora played its part. Manufacturing was outsourced to China and IT services to India. Subsequently ore reforms followed and FDI increased as western corporations themselves sought a slice of the market.
This brings us to the third Indian failure. The fact is that Indian middle class is fast losing its ‘Dhesi’ values and the South Asian culture is being undermined by the still persistent and widely prevalent ‘ Ghulam Zahniat’. For all the slogans of ‘new super power’, ‘largest democracy’, ‘big and powerful country’ etc, the Indianness is fast ebbing away.
Most middle class Indians feel more proud to speak, act and live and display the consumerist western lifestyle than any indigenous South Asian, Indian or Baharti lifestyle. Their tastes are indistinguishable from those of prosperous young Westerners – high-end luxury cars, designer clothes, maids and full-time cooks, and regular vacations, abroad.
One sign of this is the elites in Mumbai assuming that they too must respond “like America’’ and asking where their Rudy Giuliani was ? The irony is that the sign of being developed and civilized in India is no longer the welfare of its general masses in economic and social terms but ‘ State terrorism and war’.
Like Pakistan Television is being watched increasingly in India and nearly two thirds of the population has now access to television. And it is very profitable. Consequently there is intense competition in news sector and live TV. Many of 24 hour channels are owned by transnational media corporations. And Like Pakistan a disproportionate number of prime time viewers tune into news channels (perhaps due to the age old Subcontinental taste for politics). Consequently this was the first attack that was being telecast and watched live. It seems that even the planners of these attacks knew this and planned to take full advantage of the global audience on offer. The death of V P Singh and eight people in Tamil Nadu rains from 26 to 29th November went nearly unmentioned. To quote ‘They died unmourned and even unmentioned on the explosive screens that kept millions enthralled’.
As some Indian pundits have asked that while media fixated on ‘who’ and ‘how’ for these attacks, ‘why’ was completely ignored. It is the media which seems to be leading the response of Indian State rather than the other way round. In other words, the corporate agendas of the media owners has dictated the response of Indian rulers and Indian state. The proof of sympathy to the upwardly mobile middle class urbanites it seems is war with Pakistan at the cost of teeming poor and destitute billions. As Gopal points out that the ‘the media in India is only nominally public. …it is elite who own the space and dictate the terms of its discourse. In the recent attacks hardly any attention was paid to the railway station where sixty people were killed. TV crews stayed focused on the luxury hotels, where “People Like Us” were affected.’ To quote J S Raman ‘The elite of Mumbai and elsewhere, mourning the fall of the elegant Taj, have been trying to sound tougher than even the politicians of the Parivar (the Far Right “family”).’
We thus see that these three fundamental failures of Indian State that have either incapacitated the senses of Indian State and its rulers and they are being unwillingly led by the media or they have simply become complicit in the dangerous egocentric brinksmanship regardless of the cost to people of Subcontinent. That the complex to ‘be big’ and ‘super power’ is fuelling this on cannot be doubted. But the world is watching. And India must take a note. The very status it craves for more than anything else is under threat due to its childish and amateurish actions. The more it acts like ‘Non-State’ actor the more it risks its status in the comity of nations.

The Patriot Muslim – But Silent

muslim do not love the land.
once in a ghazwa two man were fighting against mushriks one said “i am fighting in the way ALLAH(SWT)” the other said i am fighting to protect madina.
RASOOL ULLAH(saaw) said (meaning) the one who is fighting for madina will go to the hell.
patriotic muslim…..bull shit
i read the article.many indian muslim were just crying.
why they are crying?
they were not crying on the injustices or inequities or ethnic cleansing or genocide or for iman..no no no
they are crying for good life…
pathetic indians with pathetic fallacies
Salamwalekum,
Then definitely people who are fighting for Kashmir will go to hell, people who are fighting for Palestine go to hell??? astagfirullah before you say any hadith give authentication, Allah never said to you fight for land fight with your own nafs and my brother what the hell you know about Indian Muslim and they are crying if some one is facing some problem one has to check his amaal if people are suffering don’t blame kafir first check your self! if you show one finger to others remaining fingers will be your side don’t forget might be you are a born Muslim by government register not by amaal that’s why your brain is full of hatred, we know so many born Hindu friends become Muslims here they become Muslim for what? to oppress by other fellow Indians no, as a human I am very proud to be an Indian and we don’t have any hatred on your country’s people, we hate people who propagate terrorism please stop killing some one if you don’t have power to give life!!!
Barrister akc, I beleive this is not the time to use foul language and make accustaions against each other. I have also written a lot of crap against pakistan, after the Mumbai terror attack, as a patriot should. Lets agree at one point. We both are patriots for our respective countries and i am of the opinion that only patriots from both the countries should talk in a sane voice, as they have the love for their respective countries. Patriots are generally people who speak truth and and have the tendency to accuse each other. This is not the time to play in the hands of western nations, who have their own personal agenda to keep inflaming us against one another. We share the common heritage, culture, language and our ancestors. Let us not fight and allow the western forces to see the tamasha, they would love to see. Their agenda is to supply arms and ammunition to both the countries, so that we should be fighting all the time. It is time to defeat such forces and take a common stand, so that they fail in their mission to divide us. I know it is easier said, than done, but there is always a beginning. Let us not spread hatred, as there is already too much hatred in the world. It is time to unite and fight the imperialists who have a self-interest agenda. I am really impressed by a lady with a golden touch, Asma Jehagir, whom i had a chance to listen at Amritsar recently. Let all of us talk peace, prosperity and love for each other. i have written very harsh articles against Pakistan, but those articles are against your govt., not the common people who are angels. Indians who have been to Pakistan are thankful for the hospitality and warmth shown by the common people and visa-versa. we have bad govts, but good people in both the countries. Politicians talk for public consumption and let us give them a pass and behave like matured citizens of our countries, of which we are proud of. Let us proud ourselves by being one and talking like one. This is the solution to a lasting friendship. People to people composite dialogue must continue to remove the doubts, whatever we have. i have already written to Awab to start a common blog of peace loving citizens of both the countries, which he has endorsed. We can work out the modalities, if we have the intention.
hi
How to Approach the Quran
Today as never before, more and more people are asking about Islam. They want to know. Is Islam just another religion competing with other religions? Or is it a way of life that transforms the thinking person into a reasonable responsible humanbeing?
Today as never before, more and more homes are becoming hosts to the Quran. People want to read this book and they want to know how best to approach and benefit from this book.
There is an air of urgency. People want to know what the Quran has to say for itself. Today. For Tomorrow may never come.
How to Approach the Quran:
The Quran is not like other books. Quran is Light. Quran is Wisdom. Quran is Good News. Quran is Absolute Knowledge. Quran is Remembrance. Quran is your book brought to you by One who cares about you. The Author of this Book is not after your money. He is not after fame. And He has no axe to grind. He just wants you to be happy. He just wants you to be truthful. He wants you to be successful.
And He just wants you to be the best you can be.
He says He made you and that He is your Lord. So before you make up your mind about Him, listen to what He has to say about Himself. He says He made everything in the Heavens and the Earth. This is the Author of the Quran and He is telling you He made you, single handedly, without help from anyone. He didn’t even ask for your permission. So you must agree with me that this Author is different. His claims and His wishes are different from other authors that we know.
He says He is the One and only God you have got. He is the sole Designer of your Eyes. The Sole Designer of your Ears. Everything you have got is His. I want to guide you, says this Author. You need Me. Stop making excuses for yourself. This Message’s function is to guide YOU, O Seeker of Truth, and bring you back to where you belong: Paradise and Eternal joy.
Man is weak, he is hasty and forgetful. The Maker of Insan (the frail human that’s you) knows this, so, out of mercy for your frailty, He repeats Himself so you won’t forget. After all, the whole point of this revelation is about saving you from your self and your forgetfulness.
While you read, remember, this is not a book that came down at one go, but a message that gradually descended over a period of 23 years to a society that was evolving from idol-worship and ignorance to true faith and Enlightenment. How this method of gradation works can be appreciated by looking at the way God dealt with the eradication of intoxicants and gambling: (Chapter #2, Verse #219), (Chapter #5, Verse #90), (Chapter #5, Verse #91).
Therefore, some understanding of the day’s events is inevitable if one is to get the full picture. So be patient, and while you keep a general perspective, never lose sight of the context of certain verses, i.e. verses relating to jihad, method of gradation leading to final prohibitions, and verses that relate to events taking place on the ground at any given point at the time of revelation.
Keep in mind, Quran is its own best explainer, a question mark in one verse can be explained by another verse, so be patient until you come to that verse, and ask the Author to help you to grow in knowledge. After all the One you are trying to communicate with is the Author. So ask Him to guide you. There is no barrier between you and Him except the one you create, so step out of your confinement and listen, listen and again listen.
Everything that’s contained in this book is addressed to you, and the stories of previous generations that you will be reading are for your own benefit. The good news is for you to welcome and enjoy, and look forward to; The warnings and admonitions, and the failures are for you to avoid.
And because He loves you so much, He has entrusted this gift to a most trustworthy Messenger’ Muhammad Al Amin. And because He loves you and cares about you, He has protected this Message for you in its original language.
How to Approach the Quran:
1. Make sure you are physically clean. I suggest you take a full bath with the intention that you are coming to a Holy Scripture.
2. Be pure in thought. Remove any thoughts you may have about the day’s Muslims, the day’s politics, these have absolutely nothing to do with this Book. In other words, be objective.
3. Sit in a quiet place, and be decently dressed, perhaps a scarf on your head if you are a woman, out of respect. If you don’t have one lying around, don’t bother. This is not a read for a lazy afternoon, the time you spend with this Book is quality time with your Lord.
4. Every time you open the book, before you start reading, say:
‘I seek refuge with Allah from Satan the Accursed.’
That way God will protect you from all evil whisperings and interruptions. A mistake people who are not familiar with Quran make is that they don’t know how to protect themselves from Satan’s influence and many times fall victim to his negative powers. To avoid that, seek protection from God. Then read:
‘In the Name of God the Beneficient the Meriful.’
5. As you read, ponder and reflect on the words. This is a message for the living. Stay alive by being alert. Remember God is speaking to YOU. The important person who is being talked to is YOU. There is none between you and the One Who made you. Be happy. Show gratitude. Use your brain. Exercise common sense, and don’t let anyone else’s misinterpretations come between you and your Lord.
6. Make a point to read only as much is easy for you at a time. And at the end of every reading, don’t underestimate the power of Prayer. Pray for Guidance. It doesn’t cost you anything. And you can do it in your heart in your own tongue directly to the One who made you.
7. Handle this Book with care. Find a decent place for it. The way you handle this Book, this Honorable guest in your home, must be different from the manner you handle your novels and magazines. This is not a lazy read. This Author is far more intelligent than any other author you have come across so you can’t afford to be lazy or shallow. Think. Apply your intelligence. And be prepared for a stimulating discourse.
8. Learn Arabic, this is an Arabic Quran. Whatever translations you are reading are only a rendering of the meaning. So, if you truly are in dire need of conversing with your Maker through the Quran, learn Arabic.
We have sent it down as an arabic Qur’an, in order that ye may learn wisdom. ( Quran: Chapter #12, Verse #2)
إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
MUBASHAR MOhammed!
first of all clear the doubt about the land.muslims are ordered to love ALLAH(swt) and His PROPHET (saaw) more than any thing else.
the jihad will be and will be only according to the orders of ALLAH(SWT) and RASOOLULLAH(saaw)not for the love of land.
this is the reason NABEE e KAREEM left the MAKKAH MUKARRAMA because they saw that being faith full and obdeient of ALLAH (swt) they can not live in holly makkah any more.that is why they were ordered for “hijra’ah”(migration)
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO PATRIOTISM IN ISLAM
muslim do not fight because of patriotism but ALLAH(SWT) order us to protect our lives, dignity and faith.which can not be saved under rule of kufr
You quoted to much about iqbal allow me to quote his famous verse:
“in taza khudaon men sab se barha watan he

MY QUESTION IS ” WHAT DID YOU WANT TO SAY?
jihad in kashmir is good or bad?
please do not tell me what i know about the muslims of india.i know much about indian muslims because my paternal grand father belonged to ajmer shareef and my maternal grand father belonged to dilli.my relative still living in india and i have first hand knowledge the miserable condition of muslims in india because i have visited india twice.
you should have moral courage to talk about injustices believe me no one will question your patriotism.

why there is so much pick and chose in the matter related to orders of ALLAH(swt)
and i must recall the famous hadeeth
“idkhiloo fi silme kaffah” enetred in the islam as a whole(please do no ask me the authenticiation because i read this hadeeth in our syllabus long time ago.
i believe QURAN should be a book which you can read any time.
@jaram!
shut up.
what are you saying ,if a person does not believe in god can we tell him to follow quran ,which is written by god.how can we tell when he does not belive god ,does quran allow person to use his brain,do u want every one to become dumb like muslim .
Now will someone please tell me why the hindu's like to separate themselves using the caste system and why the muslims like to simply kill each other for no apparent logical reason?
Even if islam is the greatest religion on earth and the only ONE true religion, do you think the behavior of muslim radicals will entice non-believers to embrace Islam? I am certainly not. Nobody I know last spoke about converting to Islam. You see religion is not the problem. It is the practitioners of religion that is the biggest problem to religion itself.
what are you saying ,if a person does not believe in god can we tell him to follow quran ,which is written by god.how can we tell when he does not belive god ,does quran allow person to use his brain,do u want every one to become dumb like muslim .
just tell me do you have freedom of speech,do you have freedom to follow other religion ,can we question where he is there or not ,
when you tell everyone should follow quran ,can u please tell y anyone should follow that book.
I todays 21 century
As an egalitarian nation, India has the constitutional obligation to guard the religious liberties of every citizen. Hence, recently, when Mohammad Zubair, a corporal with the Indian Air Force, was ordered to shave off his beard to maintain uniformity, he took no time in moving the country"s judicial system. "A true Muslim must keep his beard", contended Zubair"s attorney, stating that it was an essential part of his faith as per the "Hadith" and "Sunna" (recorded customs). "We have the constitutional right to belief and practice of religion," he said, seeking protection of his "right" to grow a beard.
@jaram!__ why don't you leave the computer for your elder brothers and play out side like a good kid…..
dr I k now why u r telling me this and I can really understand you,now that you have accepted the fact that paki is a failed nation compared to India,I will move on to my next question ,
How can a book written some 1200 yrs be relevant in todays world ,and how can you tell about the authenticity of the book ,can we question existence of good ,do you allow freedom of speech ,freedom of expression(I think you know all this) or freedom to follow another religion .
does quran allows a human to use is brain ,who knows whats written in the book is true?
jaram jaram jaram!
now matter how accurate, precise and satisfatory answer i shall give to your question, you will keep asking the same question again and again.
we have passed through this. haven't we?
so please stop this non sense juvenile game with me.because i have no mood of playing wih you..
concentrate on your studies and be a good oy
take care and have a nice day.
"The protest is against harassment of innocent Muslim youth particularly in Azamgarh and other areas of UP. They live in fear and could not lead their normal life," convenor of Ulema Council Amir Rashidi Madani told the gathering here.

"The roots of Muslim rage run deep in India, nourished by a long-held sense of injustice over what many Indian Muslims believe is institutionalized discrimination against the country's largest minority group. The disparities between Muslims, who make up 13.4% of the population, and India's Hindus, who hover at around 80%, are striking. There are exceptions, of course, but generally speaking, Muslim Indians have shorter life spans, worse health, lower literacy levels and lower-paying jobs. Add to that toxic brew the lingering resentment over 2002's anti-Muslim riots in the state of Gujarat. The riots, instigated by Hindu nationalists, killed some 2,000 people, most of them Muslims. To this day, few of the perpetrators have been convicted

"Muslims are India's new untouchables," I said sadly to my mother, in the room with me. "India is going to explode if it doesn't take care of them." Now, indeed, alas it has. And shattered in the process is the myth of India's thriving secular democracy.

Do Muslims Deserve The Hatred Of Hindus? ::
by Javeed Akhter
"The violence against committed Muslims in Gujarat in 2002 was in some ways a continuum of the periodic riots that have gone on for decades. In other ways it was a watershed event. The level of violence against women and families reached horrific proportions never seen before. The ruling party in Gujarat planned and carried out the violence with the active support and connivance of the government and the law. The mobs that perpetrated apocalyptic violence against Muslims were taunting their victims by calling them “Babur ki aulad” that is progeny of the Mughal emperor Babur.

Are Muslims marginalized in India?
Yes. The Muslim literacy rate ranks well below the national average and Muslim poverty rates are only slightly higher than low-caste Hindus, according to a November 2006 government report (PDF). Muslims—mostly Sunnis—make up 13.4 percent of India’s population, yet hold fewer than 5 percent of government posts and make up only 4 percent of the undergraduate student body in India’s elite universities. The report also found that Muslims fall behind other groups in terms of access to credit, despite the fact that Muslims are self-employed at a far higher rate than other groups.

Dr. Let us forget all religions. Religion is not bigger than humanity. Let us talk of human values and human rights, human duties. All the wars in this world are fought on religion. What comes out of it ? Millions of people die in the name of the religion. No religion teaches war or jehad. Let us first be humans and live peacefully in our respective countries. Instead of war, we should be talking of peace. Please do not help the imperialists interests as they are the countries which provide arms and ammunition to you and India. It is their business. They have their own agenda, please dont forget. Our agenda should be love, peace and brothehood for one another. The amount our countries spend to buy these weapons of mass destruction, if spent on our poor people, their lives will change and that is humanity.

simple
suicide bombing
why ????because the civilised world can not get rid of their loathsome, disgusting and shameful hypocricy.
DR. I SHALL BE WRITING MY REPLY SOON
hi, how ru ?
Dr. Please, let us all civilised people stop using abusive language. We are educated people and should talk logical, not in abuses. As i said ealier, Western countries are the root of the problem everywhere. Be it, Iraq, Afghanistan, palestine, anywhere. But why should we fight each other on these issues, when we are not involved in all this througout the world. Why should we launch terrorist attacks, when we share the same culture, heritage and history ? Rather our friendship should set an example to the world, come what may, we will not be a divided house. Let this message of friendship go to these western powers. They will have no option but to listen to us both.
thanks dr sahib!
@vaneet_kundra!
i think pakistan and india may have a brotherly relations if we solve the kashmir issue and hindu majority allow the minorities especially muslim minorities to live as first class citizens.
Dr. Please do not put govts. in between. As i said earlier, govts. cant change their stance, by me or you telling them to do anything. Ist let us be friends as common people. Your and my friendship and millions of other talking peace can put lot of pressure on the govts. 1st let us be one. This is a long process of changing govt's mindsets. The key lies in our friendship and composite and regular dialogue between common citizens of both the countries can change lot of things.
Dr. Before waiting for your reply, i have to say something. Please remember, we have more muslims in India, than in Pakistan. Let hatred be shown the door and peace be entered thu the same door. You will see the results. In an divided house, neighbours always incite you and make you fight. They see the tamasha. Let us not show any more tamasha, and stand as one. Our first and foremost love should be for humanity and not religion. Religion divides. Humanity, love and peace unite. This is a proven fact for centuries. Alexandra, the great, after having won almost the world, while in his grave said, " Let the world know, i am going with 2 empty hands. I am taking nothing with me ". History has repeatedly given us so many examples, and yet we forget all this ? We common people, should tell our respective govts. Stop hating and talking about war. Let peace be given a chance once, to see the prosperity of our nations. Let the poor of our country be taken care of. Both our govts. talk of war to make fools out of us. They want us not to think beyond, roti, kapda and makan. they want us to remain uneducated, so that they keep on following their personal agenda of filling their coffers and rule over us constantly. If we educated people start asking for our rights, they will put us in jail, on some ground or the other. the old idiom " Raja, Amir, Beta vazir and janta fakir " is still relevant today. Let us introspect ourselves, think and then act. Lots of love to all people of your country. In india, we say " Munnabhai ki jhapki "

Mohammed Mubashi its very good to read your comments,dr its Mohammed Mubashi saying this and not me ,dr you have told "kuch sawalon ke bad phir wohee sawal repeat kar deta hey.dimagh ki muth laga de hey saley ney." may be I am asking you the same question because I am not getting a satisfactory answer , If I ask about economy I will be given a few link that shows whats happening in India and not in Pakistan ,You can not hide the facts whats happening in pakistan by showing some negative things about India.I have never denied the fact that those thing are happening in India ,but you dont ever accept I think you know ,but your ego is stopping you to accept and that was proved by the comment you made on other page. What do you want to prove by showing those link,The whole world knows what is India and what is Pakistan.now I have asked is quran outdated or not ,if its not outdated I want to know why its not outdated?is it relevant In todays society not to take interest ,whats your bank doing their are collecting interest by calling it a different name (make up money) how is it different then charging intrest,I saw that lunatic zakir supporting polygamy where in He says ,women as to accept polygamy or become public property, and the reason he gives is because women ratio is more compared to man ,so can we say that women in china can marry four men ,(men are more).women were considered a weaker sex at the time that book was written ,women and to be taken care and today In civilized society women are equal.
you know why other religion people are targeting muslim, cos previously muslim and muslim leaders have treated them badly ,what you sow is what you reap, you can not execpt a mango when you have planted a neem plant.
why buddhist are not killed or attacked? find the answer for this one and you will get the answer why muslim are targeted?
you even destoryed Buddhas of Bamyan and you want people of other religion to respect you.what a joke?
you muslim respect other religion and others will respect you.till then things like gaza will be happening.
you people are so insecure of your religion, that you destroyed the status ,Is your religion s weak that a statue will warm your so called great religion?
some of the question is not repeated I think ,will I get any reply or will you just abuse me? tell me to Piss off? or act as if you have not read this comments and change the topic?
This are the things that you usually do or will you find a new way to distract people's attention? or kashmir come on abuse and change the topic, and I believe that Islam might be the great religion(I am not sure) but i am sure that Muslims are the worst followers any religion can have.Islam does not need a enemy as long as it as followers like muslims.
1. POLYGAMY
Question:
Why is a man allowed to have more than one wife in Islam? i.e. why is
polygamy allowed in Islam?
Answer:
1. Definition of Polygamy
Polygamy means a system of marriage whereby one person has more than one spouse. Polygamy can be of two types. One is polygyny where a man marries more than one woman, and the other is polyandry, where a woman marries more than one man. In Islam, limited polygyny is permitted; whereas polyandry is completely prohibited.
Now coming to the original question, why is a man allowed to have more than one wife?
2. The Qur’an is the only religious scripture in the world that says, “marry only one”. The Qur’an is the only religious book, on the face of this earth, that contains the
phrase ‘marry only one’. There is no other religious book that instructs men to have only one wife. In none of the other religious scriptures, whether it be the Vedas, the Ramayan, the Mahabharat, the Geeta, the Talmud or the Bible does one find a restriction on the number of wives. According to these scriptures one can marry as many as one wishes. It was only later, that the Hindu priests and the Christian Church restricted the number of wives to one.
Many Hindu religious personalities, according to their scriptures, had multiple wives. King Dashrat, the father of Rama, had more than one wife. Krishna had several wives.
In earlier times, Christian men were permitted as many wives as they wished, since the Bible puts no restriction on the number of wives. It was only a few centuries ago that the Church restricted the number of wives to one.
Polygyny is permitted in Judaism. According to Talmudic law, Abraham had three wives, and Solomon had hundreds of wives. The practice of polygyny continued till Rabbi Gershom ben Yehudah (960 C.E to 1030 C.E) issued an
edict against it. The Jewish Sephardic communities living in Muslim countries continued the practice till as late as 1950, until an Act of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel extended the ban on marrying more than one wife.
(*Interesting Note:- As per the 1975 census of India Hindus are more
polygynous than Muslims. The report of the ‘Committee of The Status of Woman in Islam’, published in 1975 mentions on page numbers 66 and 67 that the percentage of polygamous marriages between the years 1951 and 1961 was 5.06% among the Hindus and only 4.31% among the Muslims. According
to Indian law only Muslim men are permitted to have more than one wife. It is illegal for any non-Muslim in India to have more than one wife. Despite it being illegal, Hindus have more multiple wives as compared to Muslims. Earlier, there was no restriction even on Hindu men with respect to the number of wives allowed. It was only in 1954, when the Hindu Marriage Act was passed that it became illegal for a Hindu to have more than one wife. At present it is the Indian Law that restricts a Hindu man from having more than one wife and not the Hindu scriptures.)
Let us now analyse why Islam allows a man to have more than one wife.
3. Qur’an permits limited polygyny
As I mentioned earlier, Qur’an is the only religious book on the face of the earth
that says ‘marry only one’. The context of this phrase is the following verse from
Surah Nisa of the Glorious Qur’an:
“Marry women of your choice, two, or three, or four; but if ye fear that
ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one.”
[Al-Qur’an 4:3]
Before the Qur’an was revealed, there was no upper limit for polygyny and
many men had scores of wives, some even hundreds. Islam put an upper limit
of four wives. Islam gives a man permission to marry two, three or four women,
only on the condition that he deals justly with them.
In the same chapter i.e. Surah Nisa verse 129 says:
“Ye are never able to be fair and just as between women….”
[Al-Qur’an 4:129]
Therefore polygyny is not a rule but an exception. Many people are under the
misconception that it is compulsory for a Muslim man to have more than one wife.
Broadly, Islam has five categories of Do’s and Don’ts:
(i) ‘Fard’ i.e. compulsory or obligatory
(ii) ‘Mustahab’ i.e. recommended or encouraged
(iii) ‘Mubah’ i.e. permissible or allowed
(iv) ‘Makruh’ i.e. not recommended or discouraged
(v) ‘Haraam’ i.e. prohibited or forbidden
Polygyny falls in the middle category of things that are permissible. It cannot be said that a Muslim who has two, three or four wives is a better Muslim as compared to a Muslim who has only one wife.
4. Average life span of females is more than that of males
By nature males and females are born in approximately the same ratio. A female child has more immunity than a male child. A female child can fight the germs and diseases better than the male child. For this reason, during the
pediatric age itself there are more deaths among males as compared to the females. During wars, there are more men killed as compared to women. More men die due to accidents and diseases than women. The average life span of females
is more than that of males, and at any given time one finds more widows in the world than widowers.
5. India has more male population than female due to female
foeticide and infanticide India is one of the few countries, along with the other neighbouring countries, in
which the female population is less than the male population. The reason lies in the high rate of female infanticide in India, and the fact that more than one
million female foetuses are aborted every year in this country, after they are identified as females. If this evil practice is stopped, then India too will have more females as compared to males.
6. World female population is more than male population
In the USA, women outnumber men by 7.8 million. New York alone has one million more females as compared to the number of males, and of the male population of New York one-third are gays i.e sodomites. The U.S.A as a whole
has more than twenty-five million gays. This means that these people do not wish to marry women. Great Britain has four million more females as compared to males. Germany has five million more females as compared to males. Russia
has nine million more females than males. God alone knows how many million more females there are in the whole world as compared to males.
7. Restricting each and every man to have only one wife is not practical Even if every man got married to one woman, there would still be more than thirty million females in U.S.A who would not be able to get husbands (considering that America has twenty five million gays). There would be more than four million females in Great Britain, 5 million females in Germany and nine million females in Russia alone who would not be able to find a husband. Suppose my sister happens to be one of the unmarried women living in USA, or
suppose your sister happens to be one of the unmarried women in USA. The only two options remaining for her are that she either marries a man who already has a wife or becomes 'public property'. There is no other option. All
those who are modest will opt for the first. Most women would nto like to share their husband with other women. But in Islam when the situation deems it really neccessary Muslim women in due faith could bear a small personal loss to prevent a greater loss of letting other Muslim
sisters becoming 'public properties'.
8. Marring a married man preferable to becoming 'public property' In Western society, it is common for a man to have mistresses and/or multiple extra-marital affairs, in which case, the woman leads a disgraceful, unprotected
life. The same society, however, cannot accept a man having more than one wife, in which women retain their honourable, dignified position in society and lead a protected life.
Thus the only two options before a woman who cannot find a husband is to marry a married man or to become 'public property'. Islam prefers giving women the honourable position by permitting the first option and disallowing the
second. There are several other reasons, why Islam has permitted limited polygyny, but it is mainly to protect the modesty of women.
Iqbal says… ‘Ek Zinda Haqiqat Mere Seene Mein Hai Mastoor, Ek Zinda Haqiqat Mere Seene Mein Hai Mastoor, Kya Jaanega Woh Jiske Ragon Main Hai Lahoo Sard, Kya Janega Woh Jiske Ragon Main Hai Lahoo Sard, Na parda Na Taleem, Nai Ho Ke Purani, Nisfaniyat E Zan Ka NigeBaan Hai Faqat Mard, Jis Kaum Ne Zinda Haqi Jis Qaum Ne Is Zinda Haqiqat Ko Na Paya, Us Qaum Ka Kursheed Bahut Jald Huwa Zard’.

Pondering on the Qur’an *
By Harun Yahya**
21/07/2005
In most of the Middle Eastern countries where Muslims are in the majority, most of the people who can be considered as “average citizens” would give this answer: “The Qur’an is the holy book of our religion.” Yet, they know very little about the content of the Qur’an, about what is written in its pages.
In fact, the Qur’an is used for many purposes that are far removed from its true revealed purpose. It is usually hung on the walls of houses within a decorative cover and read, usually by older people, from time to time. People read it in Arabic, but as they only know how to read Arabic letters without understanding the meaning, most of the time they have no idea what they have been reading about, and so have no grasp of the content of the Qur’an.
The Qur’an is also supposed to afford some very interesting benefits to people. After reading it and performing some weird rituals like breathing hard on another person’s face, the reader and the reader’s close relatives are believed to be protected from a possible future “accident or misfortune.” The Qur’an is credited with being some sort of amulet that includes talismanic words that protect people against bad luck. The Qur’an is also believed to have a frightening power: it smites people if they tell lies! At graveyards it is read out for the deceased without anyone knowing what is being read. It can even be used for telling fortunes.
In short, in most of the countries where Muslims are in the majority, only a small percentage of people know the content of the Qur’an and ponder on the Qur’an as required. As a result, people who are ignorant of the real message of the Qur’an, attribute different meanings to it. Many people believe some traditions to have their origin in the Qur’an, although they may be contradictory to the very nature of the Qur’anic message. For example, there are many people who believe that a blue bead, which is believed to possess the power to avert the Devil’s eye, is recommended in the Qur’an.
So then, what is the true nature of the Qur’an? The answer must be derived from the Qur’an itself, as that is where the truth is to be found.
[Here is a Message for mankind: Let them take warning from it, and let them know that He is no other than the One Allah: let men of understanding take heed.] (Ibrahim 14:52)
[And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to understand and remember: but will any take heed?] (Al-Qamar 54:32)
[There is, in their stories, instruction for men endued with understanding. It is not a tale invented, but a confirmation of what went before it, a detailed exposition of all things, and a guide and a mercy to any such as believe.] (Yusuf 12:111)
[This is the Book; in it is certain and unmistakable guidance for those who fear Allah.] (Al-Baqarah 2:2)
These verses and many others emphasize that the real purpose of the revelation of the Qur’an is to encourage people to ponder on such crucial issues as the creation and purpose of life, to make them know about Allah Who has created them, and to guide them to the right way. The Qur’an is a book that is needed by people with open minds and souls.
Many rituals believed to have originated from the Qur’an are widely practiced, but in fact are not from the Qur’an. On the contrary, they conflict with the Qur’anic message. This shows us that there is a huge difference between the true religion as explained in the Qur’an and the concept of religion generally prevalent. This difference has been caused by abandoning the real source, the Qur’an. Of this, the Qur’an says:
[The Messenger says, ‘My Lord, my people treat this Qur’an as something to be ignored.’] (Al-Furqan 25:30)
Therefore, what is needed in the first place is to correct this wrong point of view about the Qur’an and make people understand that the Qur’an is not a book which is addressed only to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) but is addressed to all people who consider themselves Muslims. Any person who utters this well known statement “I’m a Muslim, al-hamdu lillah,” must read the Qur’an and try to understand the meaning of the verses. In the Qur’an, the importance of learning verses and reciting them is especially emphasized.
[And recite what is revealed to you in your homes of the Signs of Allah and His wisdom: for Allah understands the finest mysteries and is well-acquainted with them.] (Al-Ahzab 33:33)
Because of not doing what is ordered in the Qur’an and not learning the religion from its original source, countless prejudices that stem from traditions have been introduced into religion. The verses of the Qur’an strongly emphasize that, in order to understand religion, there is no need to look for any source other than the Qur’an.
[Say: ‘Shall I seek for any judge other than Allah? When He it is Who has sent to you the Book, explained in detail.’ They know full well, those to whom We have given the Book, that it hath been sent down from your Lord in truth. Never be then of those who doubt.] (Al-An`am 6:114)
[What is the matter with you? How do you judge you? Will you not then receive admonition? Or have you a manifest authority? Then bring your Book of authority if you be truthful!] (As-Saffat 37:154-157)
Of course, learning the Qur’an is only an introductory step as application should follow it. Some people believe that the Qur’an addresses only Muslims of the 7th century while others think that only a small number of the verses address people other than the Muslims of the 7th century. Those with such a mentality are satisfied just with reading the Qur’an and thinking that they have fulfilled their religious duties by so doing. However, it is not only a matter of learning what is in the Qur’an, but also of putting it into practice, fulfilling the duties ordered in the Qur’an, adopting the moral standards explained in the Qur’an; in short, applying the Qur’an to one’s own everyday life.
Those who claim that the Qur’an has become outdated and needs to be revised to be in accordance with this new age, cannot grasp the fact that the Qur’an is not confined by the chains of time but covers all ages and societies, as it has been revealed by Allah Who has knowledge of everything, past and future. When one reads the Qur’an with a sincere heart and an open mind, one sees that the models of people and societies described in the Qur’an existed in every age in history, including that of today, and that the Qur’an explains the current state of people and societies. All the disorder, perversion, and mistakes of a society which has strayed from true religious values have been clearly stated in the Qur’an. The reactions of the people of these societies towards religion have been described with detailed character analyses. These descriptions and analyses are relevant in all respects to the world of today, thus demonstrating the “sociological miracle” of the Qur’an.
What is interesting here is that such inconsistent views as “society is in a state of continuous progress whereas religion is static” have also been diagnosed in the Qur’an as arising from a deficiency of comprehension. We should keep in mind that unbelievers who lived thousands of years before the Qur’an also interpreted religion as “tales of the ancients” (An-Nahl 16:24).
When one starts reading the Qur’an and tries to implement it in one’s daily life, then one can be considered to be on the way to becoming a real Muslim as described in the scriptures. With amazement, one begins to see how the Qur’an covers every moment of life. Many events that a person experiences have been mentioned in the Qur’an and the reactions of a Muslim which would befit those occasions have also been explained in detail.
Being satisfied with reading and knowing the Qur’an without practicing it may have certain displeasing consequences. Allah describes the Jews as the kind of people who behave in this way and likens them to “a donkey which carries huge tomes” without any understanding of them:
[Those who were charged with the obligations of the Mosaic Law but who subsequently failed in those obligations, are like a donkey which carries huge tomes without understanding them. Evil is the example of people who falsify the Signs of Allah: and Allah does not guide people who do wrong.] (Al-Jumu`ah 62:5)

@ Mohammed Mubashir!
to whome are you talking???
please do not mind if i say that the wisdom of homiletics demands proper and sunstantial communication.
I am talking with them who are talking about Islam – Qur'an is outdated, women in islam and islamic banking, with people like jairam
@jaram!
i have solid answers of your question but what i learnt from my experience that questions can be naswered but eristic nature can not be and should not be answered.
i am sorry to say that purpose of your question is not the search of the truth but just to game to win( i can easily prove that but i do not have a time for that)
prove me wrong by asking the @ mohammed mubasharthe same question about quran and islam.(i bet you wont)
jazzak ALLAH kher!
dr i have read your solid answer and I am not convinced by u r answer and that is the reason why I keep repeating the answer,I am not worried about religion as I have told before you might think your religion is great and for me my religion is the greatest, you have told that I ask question to win ,the world knows whats India and what is pak and even some pak feels that we are progressing so there is no need for me to win .
you are trying to instigate me against mohammed but its of know use ,I have read comments by him even though its lengthy,he tries to answer the question and not like others how run or abuse, and i think he does not have a false ego like others if its wrong he will accept it.
Even though he tells about how great is islam he does not degrade other religion or he does not abuse others, like most muslim do when said about their god.
My question is simple ,Does quran allows a man to use is brain? Is islam tolerant religion ,does it allow freedom of speech?
why every one is forced to believe in god ?
how can you say that the things that a mulla as intercepted is correct ?can we question him?
I have got the answer on the treatment of women in Islam ,I came to know women should be treated with respect ,but Muslim never follow it(taliban, saudi)?is there a different answer.
I had commented on shoiab akthar in aussie bar page on jan 21 from 6.15 to 6.18 and please tell me ,
how can a peson know that the mulla is correct and that bloody mulla as intercepted the quran in the right way ?
WHO CAN A PERSON WHO DOES NOT KNOW ARABIC READ AND UNDERSTAND QURAN WHEN IT SAYS THAT TRANSLATING QURAN IS NOT ACCEPTED AND WHY IS IT NOT ACCEPTED?
if a person does not want to believe god ,y do u force to accept it?
I understand that Idol worship is haram in islam , Afghanistan's Buddhist population no longer existed, which removed the possibility of the statues being worshipped then y was it destroyed?is your religion so weak that it feels threated by a god Idol which you term it as stone?
why muslim population targeted in todays world .why people of other religion are intolerant todwards muslim ?the great muslim kings in the past were they tolerant towards other religion ?
I want to repeat my self again "YOU CAN NOT EXPECT A MAN FROM NEEM TREE THAT YOU HAVE PLANTED"I hope that i will get answer for this question ?
Jairam, I have reading like a mute spectator, your discussion with Dr. on religion. But now i thought, it was hightime, i should intervene, if you allow me. Why are we letting down religions and talking in a disgraceful manner for religion, which is so personal to each one of us? Why cant we talk of peace, love and friendship for one another ?
Religion has always been the root cause of all wars and sufferings of humanity. Cant we talk humane and try to dissolve our differences, instead of accusing each other's religion ? Religion is a very personal issue, which should not be loaded on anyone. I think, there should be no religion at all. We are wasting our time and spreading more hatred among one another. My request to you is, please dont discuss religion, only talk of ways, how we can rejuvenate our love, brotherhood and friendship, which has got a setback by insane people in mumbai. Let us light the candle of peace once again. Forget religion for sometime. This is my request.
