In all honesty I would not have questioned this editorial and shrugged it off more in the line of just another reactionary column. Had it not been for an email sent to the CEO of jang Group yesterday by a senior producer of Samaa TV who also claims to have been at the Presidency during his address and actually refutes all of Shahid Masood’s editorial we would not have known better.
Granted this could just be another spoof media rivalry between two media houses but one must take a step back and realize the complexity of the issue, Musharraf most definitely did not like Shahid Masood and then to trust the PTV boss with his all important presidential address, I too would have looked at alternative telecasting options – let me not speculate any further, I leave you to decide whats right or whats wrong

Dear Sir,
This is with reference to my telephonic conversation with this afternoon, in the wake of Dr. Shahind Masood article in Daily Jang on 19 August in the wake of resignation of the President Pervez Musharraf.
In his article, Dr. Shahid Masood adopted the version that he was present in the president house during the President’s speech and he was the person who organized the entire show.
I would like to clear that Dr. Shahid Masood’s article is based on nothing but sheer lies and concocted facts. The fact is that he was not at all present at the fourth floor of the President House where President delivered his last address to the nation.
I am the eyewitness of the entire series of events; I remained in President House from 10 am to 7 pm on 18th August. And as a Senior Producer of Samaa Television I was invited to cover President’s address to nation, and entire technical and production team of Samaa Television was present there.
According to sources in President House, Dr. Shahid was first not allowed to get in to the president house and when he manages to enter the presidency along with PTV staff, he was not allowed to go to the fourth floor from where President will be addressing the nation in short time. Dr. Shahid remained confined to the office of Maj. Gen. (R) Rashid Qureshi’s office at the third floor.
The reason why the president house invited a private TV channel to telecast Presidential address live is that The Presidency could not trust the PTV authorities as PTV did not run President’s speech live on the eve of Independence Day celebrations. On that day (13th August) it was only Samaa TV who broadcast President’s speech live, whereas PTV adopted time delay method due to which other channels who were depending on PTV feed were telecasting President’s speech 15 minutes late, while Samaa was broadcasting President’s speech live. On that occasion Dr. Shahid was present inside the banquet hall but he could not do anything to make sure that President’s speech telecast live on PTV.
The fact is that there were only three camera inside the President’s office. The Samaa TV had its own camera inside and we installed our camera at 11 am. The PTV Camera was installed about 12:30 pm and almost at the same time Eastern Television News , The PTV one camera belongs to Samaa TV, one camera
In his article Dr. Shahid falsely wrote that he was an eye witness to the entire episode, I would like to clear certain facts that he wrongly stated in his article.
He said he was the only journalist present there. Wrong, Dr. Shahid was not there at all, I was there along with my host Uzma Alkarim who later give live video beeper from the gallery of President house on Samaa with me, and my Producer Adeel Ahmed was also there.
The address was telecast from President’s office not from the committee room; if Dr. Shahid was there he should have known from where the speech is going to be telecast.
His comments about the body language of President are baseless as he was not there to see. The Present was smiling before the address and he was looking very calm and peaceful.
He said President was reading points from one paper. Wrong, President had few cards in his hands from which he was reading salient points.
He said that he recorded recitation of Holy Quran and announcement was recorded earlier. Wrong again, the recitation of Holy Quran, was broadcast live not recorded, even the announcement was broadcast live not recorded from the gallery of President House just outside the President’s office.
He said that flag was provided by PTV. Wrong, the flag was there as it always remains there; the flag was there when I first entered the President’s office at about 10 am 2 hours before the PTV crew arrived.
Soon after the address was over, I went into the office along with my colleagues, the President was looking gloomy, however he did try to smile when he saw me. The President first shook with my colleague Uzma Alkarim, than with my Producers Adeel Ahmed and Moeen Khan and said Khuda Hafiz to everyone one by one. Than he moved towards me and said “Khuda hafiz and Thank You Sir”. He tried to give a smile but failed to hide his gloomy face. At that time Uzma Alkarim said “Sir, please don’t worry lots of people are with you”. “I Know” the President replied in a gloomy voice. After that he immediately left the room as Mr. Rashid Qureshi told him that Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar is waiting to meet him.
There was no tea served in his office at all at that particular time.
I don’t know how why Dr. Shahid Masood wrote this article which contains sheer lies. Dr. Shahid Masood was not present there at all; he never met the outgoing President before or after the address. I am the eyewitness to entire event and my technical and production teams are witness to the event that Dr. Shahid Masood was not there.
I wish the Jang group should have at least confirmed from the other sources that whatever that Doctor turned host turn MD PTV has written contains truth or not.
I remember once he said to me in Dubai while having a cup of coffee in Dubai Media City in fact one of the senior Jang Group’s correspondent was there that he is actually an intruder in the field of journalism and today he has once again proved that he is not a journalist but an intruder in the journalistic community.

Before the lapse of 72 hrs from the resignation all (the so called stakeholders for regisnation of Mr. Musharaf) starting fighting with each other. We can easily predicts about the future democracy of Pakistan.
His coverage of beginning of early months of War in Iraq was also full of lies and fabrications. Half the time he was claiming to be there in war zone, infact, he never entered Iraq, as he was denied permission by US Army.
This was excellent, i totally relished it. Dr Shahid is a fraud and should be exposed as such.

I must mention the names of Hamid Mir, Irshad Ahmed Haqqani, Ata-ul-Haq Qasmi, Jawaid Choudhry, Abdul Qadir Hassan, Mujeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Haroon Rashid, Irfan Siddiqui etc. These people have occupied the editorial pages of Jang and Express, two leading Urdu Newspapers in Pakistan.

Well Samma tv is a CNBC’s sister news channel,its pro Musharraf channel from day one so am least bit surprised that its staff have cooked up this type of story,pro musharraf channels like Business Plus(Salman Taseer) have been famous for cooking up stories like these in past too.
Dr Shahid being PTV’s chairman obviously i can imagine must have a lot more access and authorization in president house(or for that matter any other govt building including Parliament,PM house,CM house etc as compared to any staff from private tv channels) ,as his team from PTV was earlier involved in arranging the independence day event too at the presidency as it had been doing so for the past several years,obviously Mush had made arrangements with private channel as Dr Shahid pointed out in his column,Maybe Mush drank tea with his personal staff and with Dr Shahid when Samma’s team was not present there?. Now if PTV’s chairman says some thing on record then i would assume it to be true and take his word,rather then the word of Mr Hassan Kazmi of Samma Tv..

I would just like to clear that any one who watched the live speech of Former President Musharraf could see that Samaa TV Mic was placed in front of Musharraf. Later Myself and Uzma Alkarim gave live video beeper from President House gallery, everyone who watched TV on that day saw us. And I challenge Dr. Shahid Masood on any channel to come with me and have a live debate and let the world see who is the real Journalist and who is not.

now i am confuse that who is right and who is wrong mr hassan kazmi or mr shahid masood. mr kazmi claimed that he is a former producer of Aaj Kamran Khan kai Saath. i have watched many time the end credits of programme kamran khan and i ever read the name of Mr junaid awaan as a producer of programme aaj kamran khan kai saath .
Dr Shahid masood may not be in the office where president addressed the nation, but he is MD of PTV and officialy he would have access to the president house and after the speech when mr kazmi was not there Dr shahid masood met to the President and he said so what dr masood interprated in his article.

I know Adeel he is not a producer in SAMAA he is senior Producer in SAMAA and he was leading that team who was covering Presidential address like you. one more fact is, You were never been a producer of “Aaj Kamran Khan Kay saath” in GEO, producer was Junaid Awan and he is still senior producer of that program now. Your job in GEO was to coordinate guests and telephone calls for program “Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Saath”. Irfan Khan please take out jang of Monday, on every monday Kamran Khan’s add is there in Jang or see our program. You will definately find Junaid Awan as senior Producer now and when Hassan Kazmi was there Junaid Awan was Producer. Hassan Kazmi use to do coordination for guests and telephonic calls for the program.
There you go, Hassan Kazmi telephone calls coordinator cum senior producer maligning others for no obvious reason. This reminds me of Agha Masood a third class govt sponsored journalist who insist and reminds every one in every talk show that he is a senior journalist(if one is a senior journalist then others already know that you are senior,you don’t really have to insist and force others to call you senior journalist)

Without getting in to more fuss, I am still claiming that Dr. Shahid Masood was not there at all. I was there along with my team.
Secondly, you are right that my job is to coordinate with guests whom are required to be on air on that day. I was promoted to the post of Producer in in April 2008, from Associate Producer, and my unknown colleague can check it with Junaid, Shabbir, Asmat, and Sheraz in Geo.
However due to some other reasons I moved to Samaa as Senior Producer. Yes it is my mistake that I mistaken forgot to mention that Adeel is a Senior Producer, however he was not leading the team. In fact on the eve of 13th August,Adeel was not there at all, he wa in Karachi. On that Myself and Uzma were in the ceremony hall and Moin who is producer were in the parking inside DSNG. Due to the sentivity of the nature of assignment, I called Adeel as he is a senior person than Moin. And if someone can claim to be my colleague than he must confirm my claims with the people I mentioned, as well as from Adeel.
I have the courage to come up and write my answers, can the so called Doctor Shahid Masood come up to take my challenge.

Farzeen Shezad, I am a well known person in journalist community. I am a graduate from London School of Economics in Media and Communications. And I am in the field of Media for the last 12 years. Academically and Professionally, there is no comparison between me and Dr. Shahid Masood.
I started my job in Geo as coordinator in January 2004, and I left it in May 2008 as Producer. This is a fact and no one can deny that. My so-called ex colleague (if I am right who he actually is) left Geo in first week of April, he did not know that I was promoted to Producer in the last week of April.
Secondly, I was in the president house with my team, some of the members were at the fourth floor and others were at the ground floor taking care of DSNG.
I have the footage and everything one needs to know to satisfy that I am right.
Tell me one thing: did you see the Pervez Musharraf last speech yourself? If yes then didn’t you see that Samaa mic was there in front of the president?
Just tell why your hero Dr. Shahid Masood wrote that president did not need any private channel to cover his speech when every one could see Samaa TV mic there.

Even if I am to suppose that Dr. Shahid Masood was nothing but so-called “propaganda”, I bet the people @ Samaa are more of the “spin-doctor” nature and hype.
Imagine Jaag Media opening up a Pakistani version of CNBC and then psy-op infiltrations in Samaa as well. Which, by the way, is also working hard for the “freedom of the youth”. Even Business Plus isn’t more secular (Hoodhboy-ish) than Samaa TV.
