Enough of our speculations on who could be at fault, for the sudden loss of transmission to over six channels in Karachi. ARY Digital, ARY One World, Geo TV, Geo News, Geo Super & AAJ YV. The mess started at around 5 pm and a few hours later Mustafa Azizabadi, MQM Information Secretary has been trying so hard to reinstate that MQM had no hand in this mess.
I have tried to reason all sides of the argument even going to the extent of trying to understand the motive behind the blanket block limited to Karachi only. I am on record to have even speculated that Geo was a ‘Drama Queen’ but it seems I might have to stand corrected on that statement and leave the Drama Queen title to be crowned some other day.
It seems MQM is pissed at the media outlets to have not given its press conference its due coverage and accuses the media to have ignored this historical event in Karachi. A number of statements have come from the London MQM headquarters and all have been denying any involvement in the censorship but surprisingly they go onto say
In a press release issued by MQM here Saturday, it is said that MQM’s Legal Aid rally is not covered properly while CJ Iftikhar’s rally, from Islamabad to Lahore, is being transmitted step-to-step, which it says is ‘journalistic dishonesty’. However, MQM believes in promoting the freedom of press. It also claimed that MQM’s rally was ten times larger than CJ Iftikhar’s rally on GT Road.
It also claimed that people themselves took the step to blackout the channels, as it was their reaction towards ‘such channels’ journalistic dishonesty’. Geo.tv
Please note the incriminating evidence which quite simply sums up the entire seven hour Karachi media black-out they use the term so casually, the enraged public seeing this ‘journalistic dishonesty’ closed down those channels.
Quite stunning at how simply they can deny any involvement in the confusion yet in the same statement drive home their grievance against the six media outlets to have ignored their ‘mammoth’ press conference and they in turn tried to teach these outlets a lesson for their bad behavior conspiring with the cable operators to shut down the offending channels. More so to bring them to their knees and beg for forgiveness. Honestly, Is this the Press Freedom they stand for? But wait, it has always been a strong Danda / Terror mentality with which they have maintained their full authoritarian control over their own voters

But what happened on 12th of May, 2007 in Karachi it was sheer evidence of lack of true leadership, a blunder on the part of the MQM and setback to it. I feel MQM actually fell into trap of the Federal Govt. just to please Mr. Musharaf but on wrong occassion. MQM leaders have destroyed all what they achieved in promoting the party immage among the people of Pakistan particularly in Punjabis. They have gained nothing but lost a lot.

Please read my comments of May 7 2007 @ serial # 8 and consider the violence report of Karachi for May 12. It appears that the wild forces in MQM were unleashed after a considerable period of time and they had a field day. They attacked the innocent people with a vengeance. As is obvious in such violence the people to die – the people to get hurt are unprepared, unarmed unsuspecting participants or party workers. They are fodder for the political guns of these heartless politicians whose dark and deed dirty deeds have done great damage to the dignity and stability of our dear Pakistan. Hooligans in such situations are already prepared; they are already on their defense – armed and equipped.
As usual the Quaid and his incompetent team still have a belligerent attitude.
Let me agree to the comments listed at Serial # 9 by Yasin Advocate that MQM has been trying to build rapport with other ethnic communities in other parts of Pakistan. Well, even if they are genuine leaders they cannot be trusted with the future of Pakistan when they prove that they are capable of committing such Himalayan blunders like organizing a rally on the same day when CJ was coming to Karachi and Karachi public was organizing a rally to welcome and support him. With two different rallies happening at the same time in the city even a kid could tell you there could be bloodshed; how could the whole think tank of MQM and its Aql-e-Qul (the one and only genius) could not understand such a simple thing. I cannot believe it, there is something wrong at the bottom. Can anyone answer it? have read all responses since my last posting on May 23, 2007. I am from a Muhajir family. I was born in Karachi I know fully well that Punjabis and Sindhis have discriminated against us. I remember when I was young boy I heard the word “Punahgeer” from my Sindhi friends. The word “Punahgeer” would be translated as refugee but the way they used to call us Punahgeer was rather in an insulting manner. I have a Kashmiri friend who got univ education in Karachi who also is still working in a large national organization, once he said to me; I am a Kashmiri, today or tomorrow with our struggle we will get back Kashmir, we will get back our land; what about you, you have no land of yours, you are Muhajir. This is exactly what Abul Kalam Azad had foreseen years before the partition. And Punjabis! who does not know their mentality. They always considered themselves to be superior to other communities living in Pakistan, cuz of bigger province and cuz of Punjab army. They continued quota system to benefit themselves. Zia ul Haq was one of the biggest promoters of Punjabis and Nawaz Sharif was his bye product. BB always had leanings towards Sindhis as they were her vote bank. All in all Muhajirs were discriminted / crushed though they were like the brain in the body of Pakistan. Abdul Qadeer Khan happens to be a Muhajir. So when MQM raised its voice against the atrocities committed against Muhajirs every thinking Muhajir followed MQM leadership. But it is unfortunate that MQM has resorted to arms, extortions and causing loss of life to innocent citizens. MQM should pursue its goals in a peaceful manner. Had MQM leadership any sense of proportion they would have called off their rally on May 12 to pre-empt the current scenario. Why MQM gave an opportunity to Imran Khan and others so they can call MQM terrorist organization. I suggest that Altaf Hussain should clearly tell us what were they pressures that did not allow him to call off the rally it should publicly apologize for its blunder of holding the rally same day as CJ was coming to Karachi

Still I believe it is high time for MQM to leave the politics of voilence behind and continue peaceful struggle for the rights of the people. I am not criticizing MQM as an organaization because every action has an equal and opposite reaction. But I do know think the leadership is playing its due role and coming up to the aspirations and expectations of Muhajirs.
MQM is third largest political party and Second largest political party in the province Sind of Pakistan. MQM has participated in every election that has been held after the Martial Law of General Zia Ul Haque. Every time MQM has participated, it has won the election with 100% margin. Once MQM boycotted the election, people rejected the election completely and those who were elected with few hundred votes in constituency of tens of thousand of voters. These facts alone prove MQM legitimacy and reputation of the leadership of Mr. Altaf Husain among the citizens of Pakistan. Recent accusations on MQM by extremist religious parties and feudalist politicians are out of frustration because MQM did not allow these bigots to manipulate democratic, religiously tolerant, and peace loving people of Karachi by using recent judicial crisis to hijack the country. It maybe easy to manipulate the Chief Justice of Pakistan and to provoke him to settle this mater on street instead off in the court but it is hard to manipulate the steadfast leadership of MQM. They are familiar with the feudalist political mentality and tactics that exist in Pakistan and are played in Politics everyday there.
Unfortunately, the bigots who are worshiping Chief Justice Crisis as a “Sacred Cow in the hope to score some political points are using this crisis to bring people on the street, which they had failed to do so in the past and to show people of Pakistan that they stand for justice system. If really, they stand for free justice system and righteous politics than they would tell Chief Justice of Pakistan to handle this matter in the courtroom and to avoid creating agitation around the country. Having a Chief Justice position does not give you surety for any wrongdoing, on one is blunder proof. Moreover, these bigots do not have any interest in the justice system they are only trying to manipulate the crisis to raise on the top. However, MQM did not participate in their politics of manipulation therefore their spontaneous response to accuse MQM and its leadership with different accusation and to come up with a conspiracy to destroy the peace of city of light (Karachi) so they can blame MQM.
In any democratic society, you have PRO or ANTI demonstrations right parallel to each other on same location, and on same day. Recently we are seeing those ANTI and PRO demonstration in the United States and through out the world for Iraq War. Why those demonstration were not called illegal because it is permitted in any democracy. MQM exercise it legal right by arranging the demonstration the same day agitators were holding their demonstration in the City of Lights. MQM is a party who stands for democratic principles from its existence and up to now. Even in this crisis MQM, demonstrate they have courage to go against something that does not meet the standards of their democratic principles without thinking who is going in favor of it. Those who think MQM has cut some kind of a deal with the government should keep in mind that MQM has never backed away from stating it opposition to government policies such Army operation in Balochistan and NWFP. MQM is not a party who is power hungry; MQM has administered his affairs with or with government in a manner that has kept his status high among the people of Pakistan. I want to ask him how many bullets were fired how many demonstratros died, how many were injured, how many vehicles were burned how many shops were looted as a result of such concurrent demonstrations. Answer would be = None. So this example is not relevant in the context of Pakistan especially in the erstwhile city of light Karachi (a city I love dearly). My honest opinion which is built by my these friends is that urdu speaking people have not gained any thing by the politics of MQM, rather they have lost so many years of their lives. The seeds of terrorism were sown in Karachi by no other person but the son (Gohar Ayub) of Field Marshall Ayub Khan back in 1964. After the rigged elections in which his father won defeating Madar-e-Millat Mohtrama Fatima Jinnah (sister of Founder of Pakistan), Gohar Ayub led a victory celebration parade into Lalookhait (now known as Liaquatabad) – a perdominantly muhajir locality in Karachi that had supported Mohtarama Fatima Jinnah. He and his band of yahoos opened fire. This resulted in deaths of many muhajirs. Altaf Hussain should be a kid at that time and there was no MQM or anything like that at that time. A disease can be cured provided it is diagnosed correctly in the first place.

in the second year of the local government system, i read a report detailing their performance. i was shocked and surprised to read that a small UC in qasor was at the top on the basis of percentage utilization of development budget. it utilized around 30 % of the total budget and the rest according to the rule is returned to the fedral government. now what you call this????? “exploitation by punjabis or pathans!!!”?? dont you think that it is mere inability of each local government of the time??? i am afraid that karachi was not in the top ten even!! which means that the local government of karachi(and i hope no one has any doubt in the fact it is run by people of karachi) failed to utilize even 30% of what it was given for development. now was it any punjabi pathan or sindhi etc who took away the money!!??

Yes, i agree with the point that MQM lost its path when they adopted the path of violence and ammunition. The slogans initially given by MQM during mid 80’s hit the mind and hearts of people. They could have easily spread this slogan in the wide areas of country, as there is a large population of urdu speaking in South Punjab . But perhaps the love of power led them away from their path. Their leaders are mainly responsible for that who did not stick to their original agenda. They wanted to see themselves in the power , and wanted a separate state instead of more rights for the mohajirs.
One more thing which led to the downfall of MQM was the criminals recruited in its rank. The party which was originally from the middle class ended up playing in the hands of MQM. I have many friends from Karachi, believe me i couldn’t find any one of them praising Altaf.
MQM is a part of government for five years and has a large majority of ministers in the cabinet , but i don’t think so there is any change in the state of mohajirs, this is only because there is no sincere leader among them.
Please stop being lame and blaming Punjabis or establishment for everything. If five years of dominance cannot change the situation for you then you need to think over your policy makers
