I moved to USA about 17 years back and hence was relatively out of touch with the developments in Pakistan. Therefore it was not only abysmal but rather surprising to see Zaid Zaman now Zaid Hamid (I am not sure what is he up to or why did he change his name) portrayed as a scholar, a defense analyst, a nationalist and may be someone who can lead our nation in the future. I think the last time I met Zaid was when he attended my wedding ceremony along with few other of his very close friends. All of his associates who attended the ceremony were the followers of a “Peer” named Yusuf. There I came to know that Zaid was not only the devotee but in essence one of the top followers of this “Peer” Mr. Yusuf, an ex army officer with quite a bit of following among youngsters. Later I came to know that this Peer was arrested as he claimed himself to be a prophet.
I met Zaid Zaman first when we went for a debate competition arranged by Pakistan Airforce in Risalpur representing Adamjee Science College. I do not want to comment much about my first impression but it was of course not very pleasant and positive. Then onwards being a debater, I visited Zaid’s academic institution the NED University frequently for different Students Union Programs. At that point Afghan jihad had a great impact on the lives of Pakistani nation. I remember all this not because it was too obvious, but in essence was too weird to too creepy to see Zaid portraying himself as a fighter in a battle field or may be dramatizing his actions as much as if he was acting in a movie scene. Hence I always felt that Zaid had some kind of mental instability. And now being a physician in USA for 17 years, we call some one demonstrating these symptoms as a Bipolar with Manic Disorder type, where one thinks himself as a redeemer, a savior and some one who possess grandiose personality.
What made me write this letter is not that I have any thing against Zaid Zaman, but since he could be another leader in the making in Pakistan, hence I felt it to be my responsibility and obligation to let people know about him. This is the least I could do to my beloved homeland. Pakistani nation has already been deceived and betrayed repeatedly by their leaders in the past. It breaks my heart to see they end up making another disastrous mistake. And once again become victim of prevarication and fiddling. Mr. Zaid Zaman is a devotee of a liar, follower of a claimer of false prophecy and an unstable person. My dear friends this is the age of technology and multimedia resources, like a true believer do not get bitten by the same hole twice. Take your time and use all the possible resources before you start delegating some one as your leader!! Now of course it is up to every individual to decide what do they want to do!!

Personally I am also a suspicious about his behaviour/stand towards the PAK army. My own belief is that we have the PAK army to thank for the current and former corrupt political leadership. The army has promoted and nurtured most of the corrupt politicians to prove that they are better at handling the affairs in Pakistan. A very short sighted and stupid policy of the army, which has put Pakistan in serious problems. I am sure Zaid also know these facts, but he still claims that PAK-army is protecting the fort of Islam (Pakistan) and that they are the true leaders of the ummah. He has failed to speak against the most cruel villain in PAK history, the army, and that is a criminal act IMO.
But I also find your article far too shallow without proper arguments and proofs. I am not saying that your claims are right or wrong, but what I am saying that you have put forward very serious allegations which MUST be substantiated with logic and proofs .

2. Where is the proof of that the above peer was convicted as a fake prophet?
3. Are there any records proving your claim of a name change?

I am no fan of Zaid, but admit that he has the ability to deliver a powerful speech by using historical and other religious references. At the same time I believe his rhetoric can be harmful to Pakistan. I believe we must (mostly) be diplomatic and only when cornered we should use harsher language on critical and matters of high importance like sovereignty.

The problem with a lot of people is that they have learned to jump on anyone's bandwagon without understanding what's going on.
Ok, fine; although I don't think that there is anything wrong with Mr Syed Zaid Zaman Hamid [which happens to be his full name], at least we do know that he has been a volunteer in the Afghan war; there is ample evidence to prove that…and I can go on about evidence like bla bla bla . 3) He hasn’t changed his name, indeed he has silent some parts for some time while used them on other times. His student days, include the Jihadi time, name was Syed Zaid Zaman Hamid. This is the name which he used during his association with false prophet, Yousaf Kazzab. When this writer met Brigadier Aslam, the person who was once the main financer of yousaf Kazzab and then took him to the court tells that when this man [Zaid} appeared on TV show, he [Aslam Sb] was shocked to see him as they both had been in close association for years but he noticed that he was no more using two parts of his name Syed and Zaman. Until recently Zaid used to call him Zaid Hamid but now his website also shows him Syed Zaid Zaman Hamid. But this is not the issue. The issue is his association with false prophet and that he still believe that Yousad Kazzab was not a false prophet instead a good reformer[ please add the reformer who loved to play with the Zulf (beautiful hairs of associate wives and sisters]
4) I have attended one of his programs organized in Karachi last year, and in which he did talk about the alternative leadership. The person who get annoyed when his family criticize his “main Main Main” in TV shows, how will he tolerate anyone else to lead the lot he has produced or would produce?

Hate speech on the name of Nationalism and Islam? Wake up. It will hit you back brutally like the so called Afgan Jihad is hitting us. I believe in freedom of speech and I don't think so he can do much with his emotional crap through television. While reading all the posts i gathered that the main concern at hand seems to be zaid hamid's influence over young minds.
During my educational life i got to learn one thing about access to materail tht could influence thoughts. Not every book is for every person and neither i think is any content that mite be influential. Reason: Not every one might have the ability to be impartial while having the inteligence of picking up truth.
If one is to condemn a certain talkshow for the mere reason of it being influential then the list of such programs goes longer. Personally i think that where everybody has a right of free speach, one should not portray personal thoughts and opinions as hard facts.
As to him being a follower of a false prophet if he doesnot deny it than it raise questions offcourse. I remember some one saying that he has the right to follow whome ever he wants, but dear if and i say IF he is still a follower of such belief than being on open forum he has the power to poison young minds. But than its a speculation.
But one more thing comes to my mind is that someone can influence you only if u allow- If someone presents ideas related to Islam- one can always check it with Quran and sunnah to confirm whether it is liget and rellivent or not or not

What amazes me the most that Mr Zaid Hamid is/was invited on many channels and from start to end talks continuously [particularly on BrassTacks launched on TVONE/NEWSONE] without any moderation or any counter question from the host [most of the time Female – where is the veil???? from the Islam of whose Glory Mr Zaid want to revive]. In one of the Final Episode of that Program on NEWSONE a grand episode was telecast as a conclusion wherein several leading journalists [often appear on different TV Channels as "Expert"], 2 Retired Military Officers [often appear as "Defence Analyst"] and one leading Editor of an English Financial Daily who used to be a Host on the same TV Channel and Newscaster/"Financial Expert" of the same Channel participated and they were asking questions [rather putting words in the mouth of Mr Zaid Hamid] the same words/theories on which Mr Zaid Hamid is very fond of lecturing. All the guests most of time were sitting like "Summun, Bukmun, Umyun" [Deaf Dumb Blind] and listening to the Lecture of Born Again David Koresh or Rev. Jim Jones of Pakistan.

People who were enthralled and mesmerized by Zaid Zaman’s eloquence are facing a dilemma now. Some of them are not ready to accept this is the same Zaid Zaman who was the Sahabi and the right hand of Yusuf Kazzab ( May Allah forgive us ). One of them a famous English newspaper journalist wrote me an email as if I was mistaken with his identity and my answer to her was
