Zardari Shoe Bombed

Yesterday probably ranked one of the most happiest moments in Pakistans history when late at night the airwaves were abuzz to have heard the news that someone had the guts to throw a shoe upon Asif Ali Zardari while he was speaking at a function in Birmingham UK.

It seemed the impromptu action of the elderly gentleman shared the feelings and frustrations of each and every Pakistani to have been watching this corrupt president waltz in power while 14 million people suffer due to one of the biggest floods in our history amongst many other frustrations over the past 3 years of his rule. Following this shoe throwing breaking news, the government pressured many cable operators and shut down Geo.TV and ARY News in a number of localities

The video of the shoe still remains elusive but the person who threw the shoe has been interviewed by Geo

Zardari’s Birmingham Bash

President Zardari graced Birmingham with his presence today as the Presidential tour of Europe reached its final destination. The President was slated to address the overall Pakistani community but in truth it was a PPP bash for PPP workers only.

The Birmingham bash did not pass off without incident and included a substantial public demonstration against his UK visit. However by the end of the day, the event and the Zardari speech were overshadowed by the alleged shoe attack on the President. It seems that President Zardari was the recipient of a ‘shoecide attack’ from an elderly man in the audience who has yet to be named, however more information is set to come forward in the coming days.

As an demonstrator at the Zardari rally I do wish to inform OP readers of the now infamous Zardari Birmingham bash and it particular the anti-Zardari demonstration. As is usual for Pakistani politics, the demonstration included some catchy slogans and chants. Indeed the anti-Zardari messages were numerous and humourous and included many examples of ‘Pinglish’ as readers will decipher from the below photos that I took:

Shoe hurled at Israeli ambassador in Sweden

A woman in Sweden has thrown a shoe at the Israeli ambassador Benny Degan and it him in the chest as he was giving a lecture on Israel’s forthcoming elections. While another person hurled two books but unfortunately missed the dignitary.

Ylva Kornheffer, a board member of the Stockholm Association of Foreign Affairs, the student association which organised the seminar, said she was “sitting in the front row and suddenly a shoe was flying over my head”. “The girl who threw the shoe asked the policemen to give it back to her. It was a red Nike shoe,” The motive was believed to be a protest against Israel’s policy toward the Palestinians.

The two protesters, who were shouting insults, were then escorted out of the room by police. They were taken to a local police station but were released after being questioned. – It seems the new lethal weapon of choice is the ‘SHOE’

Peoples Resistance rally in support of Muntazer Al-Zaidi, the Iraqi shoe hurler

Peoples Resistance held a very successful Rally today in support of Muntazer Al-Zaidi at the Karachi Press Club today at 3pm. Where we demanded his release and an end to US occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Peoples Resistance expressed solidarity with the victims of all these wars.

About 30 to 40 people participated in the protest which was also attended by a large media presence as well. Thanks to Labour Party Pakistan and friends from Roots, we had colorful placards, tens of shoes, and catchy naaras. We even made a jooton ka haar for Bush with a phone wire.

Bush ‘shoed at’ in Iraq – Hilarious

The electronic media is abuzz with reports of an Iraqi journalist who threw two of his shoes at President George Bush who was in Iraq addressing a press conference with the Iraqi President.

Considering what the Bush administration has done with the world at large, I must admit this was really satisfying specially coming from an individual in Iraq. On a lighter note I might also fear that America could now be heading towards implementing a ‘Shoe-less’ travel policy
