Sick of Musharraf lovers – a factual rant

Guest Post by Saira Ansari

I’m very disturbed, disappointed and sick to death to see the amount of facebook’ers on my list who think Musharraf’s leaving has been a catastrophe for Pakistan. Just because a new evil, a.k.a Zardari, is in the house does not mean that the previous evil is now a good man. A “leader” as some say. That’s our problem – as an entire nation. We forget and we repeat our mistakes over and over again.

People left right and centre have been levelling accusations at me, and countless others like myself, that we support Zardari. Unfortunately no one takes out 5 minutes to ask if that is so. Let me save you the time…we don’t. And no, he is NOT democratically elected. Hierarchic / Monarchic rule within the party does not ensure a democratic candidate, so stop ranting that its democracy that’s bad. We, the people, have been cheated again. The actual institution has been wronged.

I will get hate messages and mail after this because I get them often for my stance. Those who know me well know my passion for this country and its welfare so at least I can’t be labelled for propaganda as my other friends and colleagues are. But I must have my say – whether or not you bother to read the entire note.

It might seem like an attack on all you who support Musharraf, but unfortunately he was a friend of the wealthy and his circles included the elite and the ruling elite (I use the terms separately so that the few elite members in my list are spared the mercy of being called PML-Q-ians).

His ruling party looted and spent generously. The corruption meter Musharraf used himself to oust Nawaz Sharif has rated the corruption during his past 8 years government rule at least 20-40% more corrupt than that of Benazir or Nawaz Sharif…. and that is quite a task to achieve! Don’t believe me – do some research.

Of course all of you will lament his going. You thought he was fighting for the country, and the economy was oh-so-booming and justice was being handed out to all and sundry.

If you think this way then:

  1. None of you had your father/brother/son/husband picked up by intelligence forces, sold to America and other countries for bounty money, threatened torture and death to you and your extended family for searching for your family member.
    • The worst insult – Musharraf announcing that all the missing persons had actually just run away from their homes and/or were jihadi terrorists. Yes Mr. Musharraf that’s a very smart thing to say – since it really worked for you to pull out a name from your list every time a suicide bombing happened.
      • I have met the families of the missing persons in a very high level semi-secretive meeting arranged by HRCP and Amnesty, a couple of years back, and I met normal people with normal lives – just like yours and mine, but maybe a bit more harsher – suddenly flung into chaos.
      • I met a 10 year old boy who was picked up alongside his father and uncle and saw his father being tortured. His father still isn’t back.
      • I met the murdered journalist Hayat-ullah’s brother who had gone missing with his brother but had been released while his brother killed. The brother too was killed months after I met him.

    • How is this the war on terror? It’s more like the war of terror. Why are we being auctioned to satiate an ever-hungry monster’s desire to colonize the world? (USA for those who didn’t get that)
  2. None of you care to find out what happened on May 12, 2007, when Karachi went under siege and people on all sides were senselessly killed, roads blocked, Edhi ambulances attacked and drivers killed – and NO action was taken. But dancing and celebrating the Punjab qabza group government continued in Islamabad.
    • The Karachi bridge collapsing after that seemed trivial and really required no justice. Because a few poor people died and Pakistan can do without some more mouths to feed.
  3. All of you and your mothers/sisters/daughters/friends/wives have not been raped, or better yet gang-raped. Then you probably believe that rape is supposed to be silenced and that Mukhataran Mai case was “so over-done”. Musharraf was right when he had Mukhataran Mai put on the ECL (Exit Control List) so that the image of Pakistan would not be destroyed.
    • And all of you at some time have visited countries abroad, or if you’re lucky like me, were probably born abroad so you don’t have to get raped to get an American visa. Musharraf seemed to think that’s why us ladies in Pakistan liked to get raped. Again you doubt me, check online for direct quotes.
  4. You are also one of those people who’s countless acres of land were not snatched in Balochistan and Sindh and handed for a pittance to army officers who then minted a fortune in selling them later. That’s because you don’t live in Balochistan or NWFP and have your own little place in a Pakistani-suburbia.
  5. You probably also think that Balochis are terrorists and should be tackled with the way they are for wanting to break Pakistan.
    • In the past 8 years or so media coverage of Balochistan was banned. No one knew what was happening there because the General didn’t see it fit for you to know.
    • So while they were being killed they had other trivial things to worry about too:
      • No gas – because they provide all to you me and the rest of Pakistan
      • No electricity – because why would tribals need it
      • No CNG – because…they have cars?
      • No roads – no CNG, no cars, why need roads?
      • All the minerals, discovered and potential sites, being sold to the yens and the dollars and the pounds while they get nothing
      • And the budget allocation – my God it has been an insult each time their share has been announced.
    • But you say that it serves the tribal Sardars right. Because there are NO other regular people, middle class, students, poor, old, unwell people in Balochistan – only Sardars.
    • Tell me – why was Pakistan made? Were we not all being denied our basic rights back then? The breaking up of a country to form our country is celebrated – yet when a province, hounded and ignored since Pakistan’s inception now demands their rights or separation you call them villains and terrorists. Damn hypocrisy I say.
  6. You agree the media has lost control and attacked Musharraf when it was he who “allowed” them to come.
    • Again, my lovelies, the free media revolution had started in 1989 and most of these new channels came when the new satellite technology came. Not because they were always barred and Musharraf had an epiphany to allow them.
    • It’s shameful how Daily Times Najam Sethi has sold his soul to the pimped out Governor Salman Taseer to keep his position. Why don’t you question his stand?
    • And it’s time anyway to wake up and see what’s happening in ever corner of your country. This again does not mean I support substandard and/or yellow journalism
    • And if you still think, like Musharraf did, that all the channels sucked and reported wrong information and deserved to be banned in November 2007, then can you please explain why BBC, CNN, Al-Jazeera and all other international news channels were also banned?
    • MEDIA MUST BE FREE. Those who are not interested in changing the status quo of this country please change the damn channel to a cheap Indian soap opera which everyone seems to enjoy.
  7. You think that suspending the constitution was fine and it solved issues. I talk about a constitution, which is not just formed on a whim. It is a legislation almost sacred to a country. It is based on the universal declaration of human rights that are meant to apply to all and sundry; that ensures basic rights to speech, to thought, to movement, to association, to expression, to religion, to vote, to protest, to demand, to information. If the law guarantees you this security NO one should be allowed to manipulate it to say otherwise. No situation allows for the government to tell me to shut up and sit at home and not participate in democratic (or non-democratic as it might be) change. The government is my servant. It exists to take care of me and look after my country. I pay it to do so and it enjoys a very large amount of luxuries on this behalf alone.
  8. You probably also felt that the activists, journalists, lawyers and students deserved to be beaten up, tortured and arrested.
    • Then Pakistan’s constitution should be “cleaned up” and our rights to protest, freedom of assembly, freedom of association, legal rights before detention and arrest should all be scrapped, because the General didn’t find them fit to implement.
    • The emergency was declared to minimize violence, quote unquote. Read Washington post’s article, written by Musharraf himself. The comments on the article are deeply revealing. The suicide attacks still happened. During the emergency the violence against citizens was abominable. More than 5000 people jailed. I myself made a list of 1000 arrests for my work. People, civilians, activists, lawyers, students, little children beaten up like dogs. Is that security? Is that how you “control society”? By breaking their bones, ripping off their clothes and kicking them in the gut. I have names and pictures, arrested and manhandled. Honestly speaking the army, our protector ended up doing more damage to us than anyone else. The police had as usual jumped in to join the party. The fight for judiciary might have the face of Chaudry Iftikhar and you might not like him but the truth is that judiciary must be free and impartial. Arresting lawyers because “they could incite trouble” is about the biggest hogwash there is.
  9. You agree with military rule for the benefit of the nation. The army unrightfully so taxes us to our bones for “security reasons”, even gobbling up the share for education and development, yet Lal masjid brewed a few kilometres from the presidents’ house with mass ammunitions, ak 47s machine guns, grenades, gas masks…that too in the most heavily policed city in the country. Is that how the army protects us and itself
    • Sadly, because of Musharraf the armed forces really have suffered. And thousands of men, Jawans not Generals, who come from all corners of the country and bear freezing cold and scorching heat to sacrifice their lives for the love of their country, bear the brunt of their military leaders’ bad choices. The army’s job is to protect our borders and that’s what it should do. We received billions of dollars in aid to tackle terrorism. Not only did terrorism increase, but also there have been solid links of financial and logistical support found between the ISI and the terrorists. Who sold us to the Americans and allowed Boucher and Condoleeza to dictate terms? Where does the army get its funding/training/weapons/luxuries from? I’m sure you’ll like reading Dr. Ayesha Siddiqua’s book Military Inc. I enjoyed it and I haven’t found any quotes from the army denying it. Except for maybe banning the book because reading is so bad for Pakistanis. They’ll start to think.
  10. You say Shut up Saira – do you know what he did for our economy? Yes what did he do? Watching a show on TV last year about Pakistan’s “booming economy” I was surprised to hear a very Mary Antoinette-ish remark made by one of the young pro-government economists “so what if Punjab has a wheat crisis. They’ll get something else to eat”.
    • The reason Pakistan’s GDP went up was because of two reasons – the banking sector and the telecommunication sector. The Pakistan banking sector has one of the worst interest rates in the world – how sweet is that since you and your daddies don’t really need to take out any loans – but many other’s do and the banking sector feeds of their carcasses. Nowhere else in the world would Citibank have been allowed to hound a person (and thousand others like him) till he committed suicide.
  11. Coming to Citibank – don’t even bring me to Shaukat (Shortcut) Aziz. The man is undoubtedly smart and he could have done wonders for us – yet he too looted us and helped the ruling class mint some more. mint mint mint.
    • The Punjabi ruling class however was not content and sold and/or hoarded our flour and sugar, so that the hungry stomachs would dish out more when food was scarce.
    • Don’t get me started on the chief justice case. You don’t like him because you think the lawyers brought anarchy to the streets. Well the Chief Justice really should have been kicked in the boot. After all he stopped Shaukat Aziz, Musharraf and all their cronies from extreme profiteering in the Steel mill case, and he asked about the missing persons – the damn missing persons. Oh and Suo Motu…he played with that little Latin term that the government came to associate as a swear word.

And FINALLY, all you people lamenting his exit and the arrival of the new vulturesit was Musharraf’s gift to us, the NRO, which legalised their return and it was Musharraf who pardoned all of Benazir’s, Zardari’s and the Sharif brothers’ cases so that he could get a safe exit in return– one tyrant to another. Mushie knows best.

I don’t even know where to stop. I talk from facts. Hundreds and thousands of files, numbers, cases, stats and complaints lying on my desk and those of my colleagues. Colleagues who got arrested for assembling at the office when the emergency was declared. Colleagues who passionately fight for people’s rights – the same rights that allow you and me the simple liberties we take for granted. We meet people who were abused by Musharraf, those who were abused before him and no doubt those who will be abused by the new monster that has narcissistically named itself the people’s government.

For god sakes wake up you slumbering fools. Musharraf’s exit does not have to mean the return of another evil period for us. Why cant we make it mean something more and bring in more educated people into the services and politics. Talk, speak out, and demand action and accountability so that these goons don’t get to loot us again. Lets not be quiet and say lawyers are liars and politicians are pansies. Maybe if we just worked just as hard as making things work as we do in criticising, things could get better. Start by doing your bit – bit by bit – and wait for the change to happen. Don’t sit and complain in your comfortable houses and cars. Don’t do that because it doesn’t help anyone.

Or just don’t damn well fornicate to produce a generation that will suffer at your expense.

Mushraaf not only a thief but also an idiot who is running around the world and lecturing about Pakistan … trying to impose on people that Pakistan is not a failed state and Pak army and ISI are angles. Everyone knows that Pakistan is a terrorist state, ISI and Pak Army are the creators of terrorism… Pakistan is not only a failing but also biggest threat to the world's security! Pakistan will soon fall a part and it should be.. people are not happy there.. Pakistan should be divided in smaller countries now… it is for the betterment of your own people but Musharraf is just a bastard who doesn't want this and trying to prove to the world that Pakistan is heaven…

but I must salute people of Pakistan.. you guys really hate your army and people like Musharraf and doing a fantastic job by exposing them on all forums!!!

    1. I was born, bread and live in Pakistan. I am Pakistani to my heart and love my country and its people.I like democracy to flourish and will of the people to prevail. Therefore i appose Military dictators like Musharraf

    2. Pakistan Army and ISI are for sure no angels and have committed some mistakes in the past. But that absolutely doesn't give a BASTARD like you to say all this nonsense.

3.Pakistan is neither a failing state nor a Threat… We are passing through some hard times but we will InshaAllah pass through….You keep your stinky mouth Shut…we survived 1947 without resources..We did a good job during Earthquake 2005 as a single nation and we will pass through these turbulent times as Well

4.I DON'T HATE PAKISTAN ARMY. I ONLY HATE SELF IMPOSED MESSIAHS like MUSHARRAF

    5. You should take this salute of your's up your……..

I agree to you at some extend particularly at the lack of leadership. But if you compare the current political setup, you will find Pervaiz Musharraf very low in the corruption charges.

Nawaz sharif has millions of Rs corruption charges on him and We all know about Mr 10%. Pervaiz Musharraf have 4 lakh RS corruption charge about some electricity issue which he recently clear by saying If I will not be able to pay the amount I will sale my house and clear the payable.

As compare to others, do you call this corruption 🙂

Regardless of what he done with the Law, He is still much better then all of those who are ruling us right now.

I think, now Musharraf has to appear and surrender himself to the supreme court against the charges of 3rd November and Lal Masjid specially.

Let me say, the biggest mistake Musharraf ever made is off Lal Masjid. I consider that there might be some militants inside but you cannot kill 100+ innocent to catch some militants.

Bottom line, he is been punished by GOD against what he did. WAKE UP MUSHARRAF ….

    Very True Agha

He has been Punished by GOD…He ruled this country and plundered its resources, murdered his people and look at hgin now…He cannot freely roam in this country….

His supporters are all expatriates or Drawing room warriors (unlike the people who came out of their homes for Judiciary)

and the politicians who he nurtured are now no where to be seen……It is a curse of Allah indeed…

    @Akhtar

I am not a big fan of judiciary movements neither they lawyers have inspired me on any thing. In fact, that is another corrupt profession here in our country.

How many innocent people have been killed due to the lack of money and access of money at the other end. these lawyers are always running behind the money. Aitezaz Aihsan, the main man of the lawyers movement have been fighting case for MR 10% as well. Do you consider Aitezaz a loyal guy .. at least I don't.

If there were no judiciary crisis then there would be some thing else which stop the flow of Musharraf Power as he is getting out of his limits.

And the most disappointing part is, he haven't yet realize it. Recently, he said in an interview that there were only 93 people killed in Lal Masjid .. Musharraf !!! if there would be only person killed … you are responsible for that too.

May ALLAH showed him correct way and approach.

    Mistakes made in the past

    Thursday, August 06, 2009

I was quite amused to read Brig (r) Asif Alvi's letter "Musharraf — my commander". Many of the things that the brigadier said were serious and thought-provoking but if a 'bloody civilian' like me had raised them I would have been labelled 'anti-army' and 'unpatriotic'. But things are for sure very different for the men in khaki. They can do whatever they want to with the country, its people, constitution and integrity. In the end all is brushed under the carpet in the best interest of the nation while a civilian prime minister can be either hanged or handcuffed and a hero like Qadeer Khan can be made scapegoat for the crimes of others.

While the army as an institution is professional and organised Brigadier Alvi's letter clearly points out a major flaw and that is that there are as many turncoats and opportunists in that institution as in other institutions. These elements became part of a dictator's regime and enjoy all the perks and privileges once military rule comes into effect — and when the dictator is ousted or leaves, they start speaking against him. I have personally heard serving and retired generals who were part of Musharraf's regime condemning him in private gatherings. If this is not hypocrisy then what is?

As far as the suggestion by the brigadier that those who were "part and parcel" of the regime need to "come forward and bear part of the blame for what happened" is concerned, I can assure him that no one will step forward because we do not have too many men of such moral courage in this country of ours, men who admit to their mistakes. The same people will seek Allah's mercy and forgiveness in cleansing their sins but that is all that they do because they never admit to their misdeeds publicly in front of the nation.

In all developed nations and mature democracies, the armed forces are accountable to the elected representatives and don't have a say in the running of government affairs. But alas that is not the case in Pakistan.

With regard to Brig (r) Asif Alvi's letter may I say that perhaps General Musharraf was an excellent commander but that should be of little interest to ordinary Pakistanis because that was his (Musharraf's) job and he was being paid for it through taxpayers' money? What was certainly not his job was to ride roughshod over the constitution and rule for almost nine years. It is because of the legacy of his rule that the army is now fighting militants in Malakand — and our real heroes are the unsung and unwept heroes who are valiantly fighting the tide of extremism in Malakand and elsewhere.

Brig (r) Asif Alvi in his letter of Aug 3 has showered praise on General Musharraf as being a very good military commander. May I say that most people in this country have never doubted the leadership qualities of Musharraf as a military commander? However, his step of overthrowing a constitutionally elected government, simply to save his own chair, was the main reason why so many people turned against him.

A case has been registered in Islamabad against Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf for putting under house arrest 60 superior court judges. This is a good start as far as accountability of top state functionaries is concerned. However, can we also have FIRs and cases against those who whisk away citizens without giving any reason or even an arrest warrant? Both the PPP and the PML-N need to move beyond their personal agendas and to wider issues related to provision of justice.

when musharf had made his resignation speech at 1pm I was in my car moving to pindi to islambad .After hearing his emotional speech in working hours I thought his blind lovers would be out and show him some kind of love and made him request to take his resignation back.So I had lot of apprehensions that my car could be stuck on the roads by his thrilling crowds. But really it was shocked that after covering 35 to 50 kms area that day in pindi/ Islamabad area, not a single mob of few hundred people had found there.I was really surprised that man lived and ruled in Islamabad for 9 years but couldn't gain sentiments of few who could come out to show their love to him

I think he is poorest ruler of our country whom all silent lovers have worn cap of invisibility as soon as he decided to quit power seat.

He therefore preferred to take out his wealth from this country at least bees and ants would be stick to his hive after seeing his money power show,

    Musharraf’s trial

    Tuesday, September 01, 2009

I am quite amused to read the random posts of Musharraf admirers in the letters’ section. While it would not change any thing or bring a dictator (relegated to the dustbin of history) back, but I do feel like asking them some questions. One, where were these ‘drawing-room warriors’ hiding when Musharraf’s own creation, the PML-Q, contested for elections? Why didn’t they vote for the likes of Sheikh Rashid, Sher Afgan Niazi and Chaudhry Shujaat who were the most rabid supporters of a military dictator all these years? Two, if they loved Musharraf so much and thought his resignation was a national loss why didn’t they come out in streets to mourn his loss and support him?

This is in contrast to the respect and reaction shown by the Pakistani nation when they came out to condemn the ouster of the judiciary by a self-proclaimed saviour. Three, since his actions have been nullified and every thing that he stood for is being thrown to dogs why can’t his admirers come out in open and hold a small rally in his favour? I dare all Musharraf admirers and apologists to gather two hundred persons in front of Parliament House in his support.

Four, why are all those Musharraf admirers who are settled abroad and enjoying the fruits of democracy in the western world so concerned about the fate of a military dictator? I am sure if any of them supports a military takeover in the western world he would be thrown out of the country. Five, if Musharraf was such a good military commander then why did many senior officers, including the Ex-Servicemen Society representing thousands of ex-soldiers, oppose his actions? And finally, why are most of the Musharraf admirers found only in cyberspace?

Visit any TV channel or go through the print media, the hot topic under discussion is Pervez Musharraf’s trial for breaching the Constitution. Most vocal in this campaign is Mian Nawaz Sharif and his coterie. The pertinent question that comes to mind is, that it was not the first time that it has happened, quite a few dignitaries before him had also done the same. Why then he is singled out for retribution? Various platitudes have been put forward to justify this demand; yet the crux of the matter is that it is a simple case of personal vendetta mounted by Nawaz Sharif’s bruised ego against Pervez Musharraf who ousted him from power on October 12, 1999 when the plane bringing Musharraf from Sri Lanka was not allowed to land anywhere in Pakistan and plane’s crash was imminent since it had run short of fuel. However the tragedy was averted at the last moment by army’s intervention. This led to Musharraf taking over the reins of the Govt. They call it “coup”; in reality, it was a case of self-preservation or retaliation on the part of the wronged party (Musharraf). Had he not taken that step, Musharraf would have been eliminated from the scene, altogether.

Apart from above, certain other charges have also been levelled against Musharraf. Of these, Kargal war, Dr. Qadeer Khan’s case and participation in War on Terrorism have been dealt quite adequately by Musharraf in his speeches and statements and also in his memoirs (”In the Line of Fire”). I therefore need not touch said topics here. My considered view on the remaining important charges follows. Before proceeding further, I would like to affirm that those persons who know him from close quarters, would testify, that Musharraf is a truthful and straight forward man, therefore, there is no reason to doubt the veracity of events as described by him in his speeches/statements and memoirs.

In Lal Masjid’s case, action taken by the Govt. was unavoidable. Inmates of that Masjid, had repeatedly violated the law of the land through a series of illegal and immoral activities, thereby challenging the writ of the State. They were repeatedly warned to mend their ways, but to no avail. Besides creating serious law and order situation, their hooliganism was earning bad name for the country and it’s Govt., nationally and inter-nationally. Protracted negotiations carried out with the clerics of Lal Masjid proved futile owing to rigid and non- conciliatory attitude of the die- hard mullahs. Govt. had to take action as a last resort as no other option was left.

In chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry’s case, a reference was filed by the President with the Supreme Judicial Council involving C.J.’s misconduct concerning illegitimate favours doled out to his son. The reference was in order legally but the case was not properly handled. The lapse provided the politicized lawyers an opportunity to resort to strike and indulge in street agitation and boycott the courts. The reference in question was turned down by a bench of the Supreme Court, but they failed to deliver a detailed judgement in support of their ruling in the case. This queer and uncharitable attitude of the Court is incomprehensible. The lawyers’ movement was soon high jacked by the Opposition, spearheaded by Muslim League (Nawaz). The event led to politicization of the legal community including the superior judiciary.

Other important allegations leveled against Pervez Musharraf are: promulgation of PCO and NRO in November, 2007. Issuance of PCO was un-constitutional and was admitted so by the President himself and was, later on rescinded. In respect of NRO, according to press reports, it was issued as a result of understanding reached between President Musharraf and Benazir Bhutto; but latter’s sudden assassination, torpedoed the whole scheme. The funny thing about said NRO is, that those who had criticized Musharraf before February,18 elections, for not allowing the self-exiled leaders to return and participate in elections, are now criticizing him for letting these failed politicians back (because of said NRO) , after seeing their disappointing performance from February, 18 onwards.

    After having dwelt on the negative aspects related to the subject under review, let us now turn to its positive side;

When Pervez Musharraf took over in 1999, the economy of the country was in real bad shape, so much so, that the previous Govt. had gone to the extent of begging money from the masses under, ”Mulk Sawaro, Qarz Utaro” Scheme. However, there is no trace available, where all those donations disappeared. Foreign exchange reserves with the Govt., were hardly enough to pay for six weeks’ imports and the country was on the verge of being declared a failed state. Musharraf took up the challenge and managed the economy so deftly and speedily that within few years, Pakistan accumulated $ 16.7 billion reserves; exports exceeded $ 17 billion; home remittances by expatriates surged to 6 billion and there was no longer any dependence on international donors. In short, within a span of 7 years, Musharraf transformed the sagging economy of Pakistan into one of the most robust emerging economies of the region. It is agreed on all hands, that his foremost contribution to Pakistan is his economic reforms that brought remarkable stability to the country. Under his stewardship, record number of projects were started and completed. The I.T. and Communication Revolution, goes to his credit. Being a visionary, he brought about a revolution in the higher education sector where budget that was reeling at Rs. 200 million in 1999, touched a record ceiling of Rs. 20 billion in 2007. It is worth mentioning that during his tenure, Pakistan got rid of the I.M.F. and its rating improved considerably as also acknowledged by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. No doubt, certain imbalances also crept in at the far end of his tenure, due mainly to world-wide food inflation and constant rise in international oil prices and partly due to lapse on the part of our administration in controlling hoarding and smuggling of food items.

Syed Jawaid Iqbal, Chairman, C.M.C, in an interview (courtesy, Pakistan Observer, dated-23-9-2009), said, that he had interviewed Pervez Musharraf on his resuming office of the Chief Executive of Pakistan. He says that on the eve of his conducting the interview, he was told by the then Information Minister, Javed Jabbar, that there would be no advance briefing or questions. He was given free hand to ask whatever he wanted to, on any subject or issue. This was an amazing stance which made Jawaid Iqbal respect Musharraf immensely. He stated that those who know Musharraf personally, respect him for his statesmanship, conviction, nationalism and above all, his selflessness towards Pakistan. Jawaid further says that Musharraf has a charismatic personality, and courage to say “no” even at some of the most crucial junctures.

While Musharraf may be called a “dictator”, it is his democratic policies that have made the maximum contribution to his un–popularity. For instance, he gave the media its long awaited freedom. The media while using its unbridled freedom, found an easy target in a tolerant and democratic minded military ruler. The sold-out media that he opened up to show his dedication to the cause of democracy, chose him to be its favourite target. He is patriot to the core and is not corrupt like most politicians and previous rulers. He is a visionary leader and World acknowledges this fact. World’s top universities and fora invite him to deliver lectures at their venues. He has created a sense of patriotism in the country and his slogan “Pakistan First” is a clear manifestation of that. He is a tolerant person and believes in freedom of speech as duly exhibited by him during his tenure. His sterling qualities are; his humility and frankness. He has tackled national problems admirably.

At present, he is the only living Pakistani leader known the World over and is held in high esteem. He speaks in unequivocal terms and has the courage of conviction. He is the only “dictator” to have fulfilled his promises he made:–shedding of uniform, lifting of emergency, holding of free and fair elections and unconditional acceptance of election results. Unlike the past elections, no body has complained about “rigged” or” engineered” elections. He is also credited with setting up the freest media in Pakistan’s history. Lastly, he got himself elected under the same democratic rules that he gave his adversaries to come up through.

As elaborated above, Pervez Musharraf has done so much for Pakistan, as no body before him had done, rather he left each of them far behind. The irony is, how the nation has rewarded its benefactor. At a time, when Pakistan has reached a critical stage, in as much as, it has been declared one of the failed states of the World due to un-precedented melt down in its economy and dismal performance in other sectors, look at Nawaz Sharif, who is bent upon avenging his defeat at Musharraf’s hands unmindful of the fact that he himself was solely responsible for the dastardly act that he enacted on October 12, 1999. To-day, it seems that the entire political system is hostage to one man’s revenge. For the ruling junta, particularly Nawaz Sharif, there has been left no other problem to tackle except to persecute Pervez Musharraf. Prudence demands from all of us that we put aside our personal differences and acrimonies and unite, to face and overcome the grave challenges that the nation is facing, internally and externally. That seems to be the only way out of the present all encompassing crises, which is getting worse with each passing day.

I have copied the last para of the comment made by Farooq on September 3, 2009 @ 2:06 pm

"……………… Five, if Musharraf was such a good military commander then why did many senior officers, including the Ex-Servicemen Society representing thousands of ex-soldiers, oppose his actions? And finally, why are most of the Musharraf admirers found only in cyberspace?"

What's the use Dear Farooq? man, I have been witnessing a huge massive series of comments just on Musharraf Sahib. Seems to me like you've got nothing to do. Do you think there's any difference between you and the group of senior officers/exsoldiers, the exservicemen society – brother these people are retired (meaning no work to do) and what about you?

The other thing is dear Farooq, why do you not write about Zardari Nawaz (or Nawaz Zardari) – you think they have taken bath in the Ganga Jamna River for pavittar or born just yesterday – no sins.

Brother my suggestion to you is to use your pen to educate people to speak the truth, honour, and self-reliance. to keep heads high. to build up a strong character where there will be no one to point out fingers at. Chugalkhori and Gheebat are the most hated acts before Allah Jalla Shanuhu and His Most Beloved Prophet SalAllaho Alaihi Wasallam. You must understand you are just wasting time and indulging yourself into foolish arguments. Just stop it. stop acting foolish.

    Best Regards,

How are you? I thought my comments might have left a slight bit impression on you. I see you are very outspoken and since when did you change to Musharraf Zindabad, as fr as I remember you were anti musharraf and if I am correct then what's this lotacracy.

Somebody asked me the meaning of Lotacracy – I told him the education about lotas are called lotacracy.

And what is this "Chottiyas like Farooq Murdabad" you've written. Chootiyas, "doesn't sounds like Saira ("girls") voice!

I agree with you partially… But i understand that killing and selling own people for money, licking the boots of a foreign country , tarnishing the image of Pakistan Army, Allowing Drone attacks on own country men and then running away as cowards to UK are SINS far greater than Gheebat and Chugli…

Secondly exposing a public criminal is not considered as Gheebat in Islam….

I never said that Nawaz and Zardari were angels but if you read the title of this article…its about Musharraf lovers and not about Nawaz and Zardari ( product of Musharraf NRO) and i have only raised few logical questions to these Rabid and coward lovers…I wonder Why don't they respond in a logical and behaved manner if they have some thing to say

The group of retired Pakistani generals and military officers who have asked General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf to resign as president of Pakistan have now reportedly decided to “apologise” to the nation “for imposing martial laws in the past, abrogating the Constitution several times, and not letting democracy flourish in the last 60 years”. Yet, just look at the shenanigans of the newest godfather of the ‘Ghairat Brigade’: “I said to the Americans, ‘Give us the Predators.’ It was refused. I told the Americans, ‘Then just say publicly that you’re giving them to us. You keep on firing them but put Pakistan Air Force markings on them.’ That, too, was denied” — Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf, former chief of the army staff, Pakistan Army, in a most recent interview with Seymour Hersh of the New Yorker. I ask you!

Where is the ‘Ghairat Lobby’ now when Musharraf’s subterfuge to trick the Pakistani nation has been made public: whilst going all the way with the Americans in allowing the drone attacks, asking them to camouflage their drones in PAF colours. Yet his acolytes have the gall to put the blame for drone attacks entirely on the present lot? The Commando has also had (one of his) comeuppance(s), however. Asked if he had met any senior Obama administration official, he said, “I did not ask for a meeting because I was afraid of being told no.” Well, serves him right. A promise kept and the ‘Ghairat Brigade’By Kamran Shafi Tuesday, 10 Nov, 2009 http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-

High-level coöperation between Islamabad and Washington on the Pakistani nuclear arsenal began at least eight years ago. Former President Musharraf, when I interviewed him in London recently, acknowledged that his government had held extensive discussions with the Bush Administration after the September 11th attacks, and had given State Department nonproliferation experts insight into the command and control of the Pakistani arsenal and its on-site safety and security procedures. Musharraf also confirmed that Pakistan had constructed a huge tunnel system for the transport and storage of nuclear weaponry. “The tunnels are so deep that a nuclear attack will not touch them,” Musharraf told me, with obvious pride. The tunnels would make it impossible for the American intelligence community—“Big Uncle,” as a Pakistani nuclear-weapons expert called it—to monitor the movements of nuclear components by satellite. hold or what they should use it for.

I think there are many little things we need to start doing right away:

    – Vote in every election (run for election if you can)

    – Bribery must stop (especially if you are paying it to get out of your own mistake)

    – Help someone find a job rather than only giving charity

    – If you see someone doing the right thing stand by them

    – Buy Pakistani products over imports whenever possible

I'm sure there are many other things you think of doing, do them!
