Bush Heading Towards Martial Law?

US Martial Law

President Bush has signed into law a provision which will actually encourage the President to declare federal martial law. It does so by revising the Insurrection Act, a set of laws that limits the President’s ability to deploy troops within the United States. The Insurrection Act (10 U.S.C.331 -335) has historically, along with the Posse Comitatus Act (18 U.S.C.1385), helped to enforce strict prohibitions on military involvement in domestic law enforcement. With one cloaked swipe of his pen, Bush is seeking to undo those prohibitions.

Musharraf – Book Profit to Charity

Line of Fire

A few weeks back I was very critical of Pervez Musharraf when he started his book tour in the United States to the extent of making a statement in my post

Bomb Pakistan into the Stone Age, or else.: “I sincerely hope that the People of Pakistan see some of the royalty being submitted into our national exchequer as he is undoubtedly using his official capacity to publicize his personal book.”

These concerns were put to rest when I came across a news report where the President of Pakistan has declared that the proceeds will be given to an undisclosed charity, but on further questioning he actually revealed the actual numbers (Reuters)

Simon & Schuster gave me $250,000 of which I have already donated $90,000 but I don’t want to get into the specifics (of who the recipients are). That leaves me with $160,000. I will be getting a 15 per cent cut in royalty but we have not reached that stage yet,” Musharraf revealed. He then proceeded to elaborate on the setting up of a fund, which he proposed to call Musharraf Foundation and announced depositing the residue sum of $160,000 he had from the book into it

What can I say? … Go Buy The Book

Coup Attempt in Pakistan

We may recall a few weeks back a strong rumor made its rounds within Pakistan that a coup was under way in the absence of Musharraf who happened to be in NY attending the UN General Assembly and simultaneously doing a book tour in the Untied States of America.

It was also reported that the Pakistani upper echelon who happened to be alongside the President enjoying the full expense paid royal trip were indeed significantly worried and made frantic calls to Pakistan to confirm this rumor. Lucky for them it was all just a false alarm, but it seem like there was indeed some thing in the air as upon Musharraf’s return, some rockets were found in and around the capital with even a remotely activated rocket aimed at his residency. As a consequence to this development approximately 40 people have been arrested who happen to be middle-ranking Pakistani Air Force officers, even a few civilian arrests of which included the son of a serving brigadier in the army.

The conspiracy was discovered through the naivety of an air force officer who this month used a cell phone to activate a high-tech rocket aimed at the president’s residence in Rawalpindi. The rocket was recovered, and its activating mechanism revealed the officer’s telephone number. His arrest led to the other arrests. Other rockets were then recovered from various high security zones, including the headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Islamabad. – AToL

Stone Age… Revisited

A few days back on Sept 23rd 2006 I wrote an article on OhMyNews.com titled – Pakistanis Unsurprised by the ‘Stone Age’ Remark, was an altered version to the post I made on my own blog a few days prior – Bomb Pakistan into the Stone Age, or else. where I discussed the threat made to Pakistan by Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage. My blog post attracted an interesting exchange between a few visitors almost to the point of a mud-slinging match.

Initially when I made both post Pervez Musharraf’s book – In the Line of Fire: A Memoir had not hit the market and we were asuming our reactions on his interview to CBS, but just today when I was browsing through the OhMyNews email correspondence I was surprised to discover an email by Robert J. Giuda, State Representative, NH Legislature (he’s up for re-election this Nov). A brief search on revleaed he is also the Chiarman and CEO of an organization going by the name of Americans for Resoution of Kashmir (interesting?)

Mr. Giuda responded to my article in a very detailed and carefully worded letter, it just boils me to see these neocons simply can’t see the entire picture and are wielding their axes ready to kill. I quote his email exactly below

Pakistani Diplomats – 10th Most Parking Violations

Pakistani Parking violations in NY

A recent study conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research shows that 13 Pakistani Diplomats based in NY with the United Nations have violated New York Cities Traffic codes a whopping 900 times over a period of five years averaging a medallion of 180 parking tickets per year. The title of the study Cultures of Corruption: Evidence From Diplomatic Parking Tickets starts of with a simple premise.

We develop an empirical approach for evaluating the role of social norms in corruption by studying parking violations among international diplomats living in New York City. Consular personnel and their families benefit from diplomatic immunity, a privilege which allowed them to avoid paying parking fines prior to November 2002. We examine differences in the behavior of government employees from different countries, all living and working in the same city, all of whom can act with impunity in (illegally) parking their cars. The act of parking illegally fits well with a standard definition of corruption, i.e., “the abuse of entrusted power for private gain,2 suggesting that the comparison of parking violations by diplomats from different societies serves as a plausible measure of the extent of corruption social norms or a corruption “culture. – NBER (PDF Paper 219K)

They seemed to quite accurately correlate the level of corruption to each diplomat to his/her home country, finding that diplomats from low corruption countries (e.g., Norway) behave remarkably well even in situations where they can get away with violations, while those from high corruption countries (e.g., Nigeria) commit many violations, suggesting that they bring the social norms or corruption culture of their home country with them to New York City.

UK Parking Violations

A closer look at the study shows that the Diplomats from United Kingdom have barely any violations in NY (0.0 reported violations from 31 diplomats) but on the other hand a BBC report shows that the United States Diplomatic core based in England have a pilled up a whopping £271,000 in parking fines, closely by Nigeria at £202,150 in a short period of six months from October 2005 to April 2006 – BBC News. This is a very interesting revelation showing that the American Diplomats could possibly be the MOST corrupt in the world if we are to base our findings according to the premise placed by the NERB report.

Coming back to Pakistan, I am extremely embarrassed to see our name on such a list especially when these diplomats who have been entrusted to promote the image of Pakistan in a foreign land start abusing the local laws and hence creating a bad name for my country. I simply stand offended and object wholeheartedly hoping that someone along the chain of command listens to this plight and starts to make mends.

Om Puri to Play Zia-ul-Haq

Om Puri

Om Puri will soon share celluloid space with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts in the upcoming film Charlie Wilson’s War, where he will play the character of General Zia-ul Haq, late President of Pakistan. The film is being produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and directed by Mike Nichols and is expected to hit the screens in 2008

Charlie Wilson’s War is a political film set during the period when the USSR invaded Afghanistan, and America wanted to use Pakistan to get rid of the Soviets

Om Puri has been reported to be in LA for two weeks on pre-production work and is doing a full background research on the Character of Zia-ul-Haq. “I remembered Zia having a gold tooth and have confirmed it with Shatrughan Sinha and his wife Poonam, who were close to the General. I also found out that the chain he wore on his sherwani had a decorative pocket watch.” said Om Puri.

Its just ironical that an Indian be chosen to play Zia’s character, personally I don’t see much in this story, after all its just a movie. But I dread the public reaction which may turn into a vociferous crucifiction as we tend to be considerably emotional against India.

Bomb Pakistan into the Stone Age, or else….

Bush n Mush press Conf

A threat made by Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage immediately after 9/11 threatening Pakistan to Be prepared to be bombed. Be prepared to go back to the Stone Age. It was revealed after five years during an interview for CBS 60 minutes (video) with Pervaiz Musharraf expected to be aired on Sunday.

Be prepared to be bombed.
Be prepared to go back to the Stone Age

Pakistanis are not surprised to hear that we were unwillingly pushed into this partnership on the War on Terror, we knew the mighty United States would have easily trampled all over us and the, then emotionally charged American nation would have cared less to our existence as they did for Afghanistan and Iraq. But when the same government issues statements like “we will order troops to enter Pakistan to catch Osama Bin Laden without the authorization of Pakistani Government” are made again five years later in 2006, one has then to wonder when will this crazed maniac take a stop think ad maybe take a time-out? Osama and the word Al-Qaeda are simply used more as a rubber stamp to force an innocent American nation to authorize invasions, or god forbid they then can be labelled as Un-American.

Bush when questioned today by the White House Press Corp on Armitage’s comment in 2001, the President of the United States choose to play dumb yet again offering a lame excuse “I just read it in the newspapers”. To avoid an embarrassing rebuttal and a confrontation, Musharraf ducked the question, but quite simply lacked the finesse as shown by his US counterpart, he responded by hiding behind a the excuse of a non-disclosure statement with his book publisher, his autobiography expected to hit the shelf in a few days.

The President of Pakistan barely missed a beat in inserting a plug for his book even during his official duties, I sincerely hope that the People of Pakistan see some of the royalty being submitted into our national exchequer as he is undoubtedly using his official capacity to publicize his personal book. Its common to see many past-Presidents and past-Prime Ministers writing their autobiography but for a serving President, this must be a first [?].

During the press conference Musharraf may have earned a few loyalty points by ducking the all important question which could indeed contribute to an extension of his Military regime beyond 2007, which has been under threat from all quarters.

Whatever the sentiments brewing up back home in Pakistan it appears as if the overall US media has portrayed this official Pakistan visit in favourable terms, lets hope they remain as such.

Bush ‘the Devil’ – Hugo Chavez

Chavez

The Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez tore into his United States counterpart, referring him to as a racist, imperialist “devil” who has devoted six years in office to military aggression and the oppression of the world’s poorest people.

“The devil came here yesterday,” Chavez said, referring to Bush, “And it smells of sulfur still today.” Chavez accused Bush of having spoken “as if he owned the world” and said a psychiatrist could be called to analyze the statement. “As the spokesman of imperialism, he came to share his nostrums to try to preserve the current pattern of domination, exploitation and pillage of the peoples of the world. An Alfred Hitchcock movie could use it as a scenario. I would even propose a title: ‘The Devil’s Recipe.’ ”

The devil came here yesterday,
It smells of sulfur still today

During his exceptionally inflammatory speech he even held up a book by Noam Chomsky on imperialism and said it encapsulated his arguments: “The American empire is doing all it can to consolidate its hegemonistic system of domination, and we cannot allow him to do that. We cannot allow world dictatorship to be consolidated.”

He ended the news conference by saying, “I have a meeting with the axis of evil somewhere around here, so I have to go.”

This speech on one hand can be brushed aside as a lunatic commander speaking against the “Free World” but for a moment try to forget the actual words used in his delivery and attempt to read in-between the lines. He attempts to drive home a very strong message which other leaders were unable to speak against the biggest economic bully of the world, the message was clear and simple, the entire world is sick and tired of seeing this aggressive attitude of the United States of America, and its attempt for world domination.

Chavez in my opinion gave a brilliant speech, a speech that drove in his message with menacing force, he used sensational words which will naturally be quickly picked up by the world media and this itself can be the first step in creating awareness for this problem. Its good to see that these sentiments are not being only portrayed by the Muslim world, but is heartening to see a country in South America finally speak-up against its North American brothers and Hugo simply choose a brilliant time to capture the lime light, is this the first stone shattering window panes at the White House. Reactions?

Nancy Johnson (R-CT) hits out at Pakistan

No to Nancy Johnson

Nancy Johnson (Wikipedia) a republican congresswoman from Connecticut has recently launched a TV commercial where she actually depicts Pakistan as the source of terrorism. Watch the short commercial here.

We as Pakistanis object to such accusations and must work against people who label Pakistan as a terrorist state. Ever since 9/11 Pakistan has stood shoulder to shoulder in supporting the grieving American nation in helping it root out all forms of terrorist. The Government of Pakistan offered full unrestricted cooperation since 2001 which actually meant going against popular local vote and offer a supporting helping hand to the Americans in their battle against terrorism.

Five years down it continues to be a battle fought by the United States of America and even now we stand along side in any decision handed to us by the United States. But what really hurts a peaceful nation which has chosen to lend the Americans a helping hand, is when a congresswomen like Nancy Johnson, a republican, who chooses to highlight the name of Pakistan as a terrorist state. We then have to reevaluate our unconditional support to the United States of America asking ourselves if it is OK to offer a helping hand to an arrogant nation which has no care for its allies and friends.

“The Media is Definitely Playing Havoc with your Mind”

This was the recent comment from a very respected online acquaintance, who wrote in response to my recent US-Bashing barrage, We Will Not be Silent and also in the post titled Muslims Dont Hate Freedom, They Hate Oppression.

You are very right, and I too feel this sentiment coming through on all of my posts, little can one do when every news report that I read, every email that I exchange, every person I converse is repeatedly pounding the same message – “The US has evil intentions of conquering the world“. I have tried to rationally think, looking at the facts, beyond the fiction, often attempting to read between the lines but despite all my efforts I continue to get the same message anyway I look at the puzzle. The Americans might not like all this negative sentiment brewing around the world but my tea leaves show that things are about to get worse.

I consider myself fortunate to have the power of the pen, to be able vent my frustrations on this blog, but for a moment can you picturize a person who simply can’t release his pent up adrenaline, he continues to hear a lot, sees a lot and feels a lot of emotions, but is unable to properly and peacefully vent his anger, this frustration then continues to build up with time one day simply blows up in a volcano of adrenaline. He could at this time be easily labelled a Terrorist as much as a Freedom Fighter, as they say, one mans Freedom Fighter is another mans Terrorist, which side would he fall entirely depends on whose side YOU are on

    We Will Not be Silent

    I am not a terrorist t-shirt

With the ongoing media bombardment by the US government they have slowly hypnotised all of its citizens to be suspicious of all middle eastern people who may even accidentally walk around the corner. A number of stories have continued to come through of people being harassed by everyone from airport authorities to even some casual citizens in normal daily life. Read the story of a US citizen Raed Jarrar who had travelled to Lebanon to help out in the relief efforts but on the way back he was stopped at JFK for wearing a T-shirt with Arabic lettering “We will not be silent” he was simply prevented from boarding his flight to California and was asked to take off his shirt the only condition with which he could be permitted to travel home. read his entire post.

An effort to raise awareness has been started by a group of people selling shirts loudly proclaiming “I am not a Terrorist” again only in Arabic, all shirts have been marked at $1 above the actual price and proceeds will be going to ACLU. Edited later: I have been informed that ACLU could very well be the wrong organization to support since they are more politically oriented and have a tendency to simply protest against Republicans for the sake of opposition, thay may very well have very little concern for Muslims settled in the US

Its not surprising but I have been noticing that people like me, living outside the US continue to get a very negative image of what is actually happening to Muslims settled there. The significant number of emails and reports circulating around show a very bleak and deteriorating situation, far worse than what I personally witnessed after 9/11. Is it just the media playing havoc with our minds or is it seriously getting worse, would love to get a perspective from Muslims based in North America.

It all starts from this proactive gung ho stance adopted by the United States of America against the Muslim nations and its people, this position has probably pushed even a person like myself, who continues to remain very open-minded and peace advocating individual, to become very strongly opposed to Bush’s designs of ultimate world domination. I shudder to think what would happen to an individual who was already in a leftist frame of mind, he would have surely gone off the edge into no-mans land to become an extremist or more adequately a freedom fighter (only in his thoughts and opinions) but this very same freedom fighter is conveniently labelled because of him being a Muslim as an Al-Qaeda terrorist. That’s the irony which the American people fail to realize, you cant beat the crap out of a nation and expect them to play dead, they will revolt, they will revolt in thought and in every action its literally almost like a knee-jerk reflex, if you hit the knee hard enough you are bound to get a reaction.

Simply don’t hit the knee, and you won’t get a reaction. Is that too hard to digest?

Muslims Don’t Hate Freedom, They Hate Oppression

I came across this article written by Khalid Amayreh, its well written and quite adequately explains the present dilemma regarding Muslims being termed as Islamic Fascists. I have partially reproduced this article the areas which I feel need more attention, though I would recommend reading the entire article found at ZioPedia – Muslims don’t hate freedom, they hate oppression

    Civil War ….ooopps

    Iraqi WMD Trucks

Just recently the Head of U.S. Command & Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld (CNN) announced to the world that they dread the situation in Iraq is about to get worse and the Iraq might be headed into a civil war. Why am I not surprised !!!

Practically a year back it was Rumsfeld who stated on Aug 23, 2005 Iraq not fated to civil war (CNN) One year later they announce an impending civil war in Iraq. Either the insurgents/nationalist got the better out of the American forces or the Americans were simply hoping to be saved by a miracle. Three years back the United States of America went guns blazing into Iraq without the explicit approval from the UN and the rest of the world, they went to destroy the so-called truck laden nuclear production facilities which were then a looming threat to the national security of the United States. For people with a “very short term memory” I attach a picture of the images shown by Colin Powell to the world which became the core of this elaborate plot to invade Iraq.

What happened? Did the US accidentally loose these trucks armed with the high-tech satellites eye peering down upon them, did the US accidentally loose these trucks in the heat of battle or were they simply a big fat lie. My hunch is to go with the latter, A BIG FAT LIE

Back in 2003 the self-proclaiming heroic army called the assault Operation Iraqi Liberation, why live a lie when it should have been titled “OIL OIL We Come For OIL”. Call this invasion based on a lie with any name, defend it with the biggest media blitz, bomb the shit out of a sovereign nation, kill thousands of innocents (US calls them insurgentst) but a lie will always remains a lie and has the tendency to come back to haunt you later. If the US had quickly gotten out then this would not have mattered, but it seems the US has been caught as they say, with their hand in the cookie jar, or as they sometimes also say, caught with their pants down while the world watches this elaborate lie simply blow up in their face.

With a very heavy heart I feel the American citizens now realize the brunt of the mistake as they continue to see a never ending line of body bags piling up in Washington, it should not have taken three years for Commander-Idiot-in-Chief George W Bush to realize this problem. The US forces are actually invaders and the local Iraqis are defenders of their own country, maybe insurgents for an invading army what did u execpt everyone to drop their weapons and let you rape the heck out of the country, call these forces with the OH-MY-GOSH brand name m Al-Qaeda or any extremist terrorist you want but these are Iraqis (both rouge &/or organized) defending their own country.

Surprisingly the American forces were under the impression that the Iraqis would roll over and play dead as soon as they liberate Iraq from the WMD’s &/or Saddam but these three years of intense battle shows evidence that its far from a Liberation. The impending civil war is purely the creation of a mismanaged invading army which came into the country disguised as a Trojan horse hunting for the non-existent Chemical weapons and WMD’s when it faced a PR disaster to have orchestrated a lie turned to hunt down Saddam Hussein, then it decided to force onto the people the Americanised version of democracy and hoped yet again the streets would erupt in applause to the heroic efforts by GW Bush. Yet again the expectant thunderous applause was met with IED bombs which were damaging armoured plated Hummers. The Americans themselves played the fine line of Shia-Sunni battle pitting one to the other which has lead to a progressive decline of normalcy within the country.

Civil war in my opinion has been on the cards practically from the first day, only a fool would have believed otherwise. The Americans can justify all the want to the reasons of the invasion but to go in a country and leave it in a civil war is NOT the acts of a civilized nation.

America You Decide: Justice or Genocide?

Its amazing how the United States continues to stand by quietly to watch the genocide in Lebanon, they have continued to claim to be unable to intervene and stop this war, which were seen a number of statements made by the White House only “requesting” the Israeli army to take care in attacking Lebanon (truly BS) but they never issued a call to stop this mass genocide.

For every innocent life lost in this war I US and Israel equally responsible, Israel for this blatant act of war which have been sponsored by American tax dollars to purchase the advanced weaponry for the Israeli Army to humans with absolute no compassion. I call for an end to this one sided war and also urge the US to stop playing games and strictly force the Israelis to stop this genocide of Lebanese.

I would like to share an interesting 26 second video which is worth watching or check out the website JusticeOrGenocide.com

    Will You Stop !!!

    Israel Palestine Map

Do take a look at this map of the Israeli occupation from 1946 to 2000, a region predominantly occupied by the Muslims back in 1946 has slowly diminished to barely a few green spots on the map. It blatantly appears to be an invasion slowly expanding its territory and shoving the Muslims into extinction. Under UN Resolution 242, Israel is required by international law to withdraw from all the territories occupied in 1967, including East Jerusalem. The United Nation’s General Assembly has repeatedly condemned Israel’s occupation of the territories as illegal (see UN resolutions 338, 1397, and 1402, among others). The Jews continue to defy all orders passed by the UN and the International Court of Justice, refusing to follow the rules created to stop this unrest and peace. They play a game of charades by signing a middle east peace deal but back off themselves for one lame excuse after the other blaming the other party for a minor offense but refuse to accept their own methods of invasion and torture.

Yet again the pictures of the unrest in the Middle East come back again to haunt us, and yet again the images touched the bleeding heart seeing an innocent girl morning the loss of her family, after the IDF “accidentally” bombed their picnic party. Shells fired from a gun ship located practically a mile off-shore, call it whatever type of accident but trigger-happy soldiers who were unable to visually identify a group of innocent picnickers should not be trusted with even a simply driving license, the disease is commonly known as “blindness”. The picnickers were in plain sight and in my opinion can be considered as a blatant attack against humanity – yet another violation of human rights.

When I try to analyze the Israel-Palestine conflict my opinion may be a little skewed towards sympathising with the Muslim side, argue all you want but every time I try to logically evaluate this situation there seems to be a serious imbalance of power between the two warring factions. Israel can be considered as the bully and Muslims the easy underdogs getting the beating of their life, it started off as a small occupation which has turned into an invasion of the Muslim territory. There can be no doubt all this was accomplished by a strong Jewish lobby in Washington making sure the US develops a blind spot on Israel. This lobby ensures no drastic statements or measures are made against the Jews and we often see a simple stern glare and a scolding restricted to being simply a public statement rather than stern actions to stop this atrocious war in Israel.

Palestinians on the other hand have none of the glittering arsenal but rely only on their physical strength to keep their country together. The emotional population after being repeatedly assaulted and raped by Israelis, practically loose their sanity and hence are left with no choice to blow themselves up in a crowded market just so that they can get their revenge. Many wonder how a person can be pushed to committing suicide, Imagine for a moment every member of your family being killed by the Israelis, you will have lost every person you have ever loved, your only goal then in life is to take revenge even at the cost of your own life. The human brain is easy to understand and you don’t need a degree in psychology to understand what makes a suicide bomber.

Someone needs to step back and let things cool down, a tit-for-tat reaction only makes the situation worse. Either one of the factions has to finally say STOP, I assure you this nation will be the true winner of the battle. Hammas in the recent past due to whatever reason issued a seize fire, it was a bold move and a step in the right direction, lasted a good year but with continued irritating onslaughts by the IDF the patience finally boiled over. I would not be surprised if things start to get worse and then the Jews should be held responsible for the escalating situation

The world continues to blame the Palestinians for carrying out suicide attacks but the the Jews retaliate with even a greater force resulting in an equal number of deaths if not more within the Palestinian territory. The F-16 flying high above drops a GPS guided bomb in the middle of a shopping district in Palestine, killing hundreds within seconds, the pilot and aircraft safely exit without even as much as a scratch since the Muslims have no weapons to fight back, apart from the handheld weapons acquired from the black market.

The Israeli public statement proudly announces the elimination of a terrorist – touting the same post 9/11 slogan “war against terrorism” getting laurels of praise from the right wing US media moguls. How ironic, the world sees Israel an equal partner to this terrorist activity but is sadly accorded a friendly pat ont he back from the US, probably equally to blame but the media chooses to portray Israel as the hero.

To top it off the US continues to support the Jewish army providing them the best arsenal including the technology to produce 200+ odd nuclear warheads that have been produced by Israel. I refuse to fathom the hypocrisy by the United States of America when it itches to flush out the WMD’s held by Iraq, Iran and North Korea but somehow ignores the trigger happy gun totting Jewish army which repeatedly uses devastating force on humanity. How could the Israelis be considered as responsible members of the nuclear club when they can’t see a picnic party practically a mile away. At the same time I even doubt the responsible attitude of the United States of America as they are the only nation to ever use the deadly nuclear weapon, not once but twice and that too in a short span of three days, yet for some strange reason they refuse to ratify the CTBT, there must be a reason for non-compliance.
