The Wounds of Gaza – a report by two Medical Doctors

Two Surgeons from the UK, Dr Ghassan Abu Sittah and Dr Swee Ang, managed to get into Gaza during the Israeli invasion. They describe their experiences in a medical journal Lancet, share their views, and conclude that the people of Gaza are extremely vulnerable and defenseless in the event of another attack.

On the first day of the invasion, 250 persons were killed. Every single police station in Gaza was bombed killing large numbers of police officers. Having wiped out the police force attention was turned to non government targets.

As of 25 January 2009, the death toll was estimated at 1,350 with the numbers increasing daily. This is due to the severely wounded continuing to die in hospitals. 60% of those killed were children. The severely injured numbered 5,450, with 40% being children. These are mainly large burns and polytrauma patients. Single limb fractures and walking wounded are not included in these figures.

Through our conversations with doctors and nurses the word holocaust and catastrophe were repeatedly used. Many patients died in the Accident and Emergency Department while awaiting treatment.

The Oppressed Have Become the Oppressors

After the downfall of Nazi Germany, the German people “washed their hands” of any complicity in the Jewish extermination camps by pleading ignorance. Lower rank German soldiers excused themselves by saying that they were only following military orders! Today, in the Holy Land, the Zionist Jews, with the support of the majority of Israel’s population are themselves perpetuating a holocaust against the Palestinian people. After the bodies are counted and the atrocities documented, how will the Jews excuse themselves for committing these crimes against humanity?

It is collective punishment of a people and the murder of hundreds of Palestinian children and women is a policy of genocide!

Video – Israel Ambassador to Sweden – Shoe’d

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtvhEK3WjNU

This video appears to be taken just after the shoe went flying out of control, as the students are irate, but very soon later two books are hurled at the podium and some hot words exchanged. Seems a little satisfying considering how intensive the Israeli government has been in grazing the Gaza strip

UN retracts claim deadly Israeli strike hit Gaza school

The United Nations has retracted a claim that an Israeli strike which killed more than 40 people in northern Gaza city of Jabaliya last month on January 6th which had targeted a school run by a UN agency. The attack sparked an international uproar and the UN responded very strongly even the Secretary General Ban Ki Moon issued an official statement while the Human Rights Watch condemned the loss of innocent lives and urged for an immediate investigation

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said “The humanitarian coordinator would like to clarify that the shelling, and all of the fatalities, took place outside rather than inside the school. The Israeli military initially said its forces had responded to hostile fire from within the UN school but later reportedly retracted that statement.

Its sad to see that the UN has succumbed to the pressure from the Jewish lobby, imagine they overlook the fact that 40 innocent lives were lost in this attack on a mere technicality that it was ‘outside’ the school.

We will not go down (Song for Gaza)

Michael Heart – Song for Gaza – We will not go down
My original intention to donate proceeds from the sale of the MP3 to charity has been complicated by technical matters; therefore, I have decided to make the song available free of charge. I would like to request that after downloading the song from this page, you kindly donate directly to a charity or an organization dedicated to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people. Worthy of note is UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East), which has been helping Palestinian refugees since their dispossession in 1949.

Outcry over Arms Shipment from US to Israel via Greece

Asteris Masouras a Global Voices blogger from Greece shares a very shocking report. With the war raging in Gaza, news reports emerge earlier this month about the routing of an extraordinarily large shipment of arms from the United States to Israel through the Greek port of Astakos caused an uproar among Greek bloggers. They rallied together, investigated the issue and were able to exert enough pressure on the Greek government to halt the transfer.

The story emerged initially via a Reuters news report on 9th January

Reuters 9th Jan: The U.S. is seeking to hire a merchant ship to deliver hundreds of tons of arms to Israel from Greece later this month, tender documents seen by Reuters show. The U.S. Navy’s Military Sealift Command (MSC) said the ship was to carry 325 standard 20-foot containers of what is listed as “ammunition” on two separate journeys from the Greek port of Astakos to the Israeli port of Ashdod in mid-to-late January. A “hazardous material” designation on the manifest mentions explosive substances and detonators, but no other details were given. “Shipping 3,000-odd tons of ammunition in one go is a lot,” one broker said, on condition of anonymity.

The ship hired by the MSC in December was for a much larger cargo of arms, tender documents showed. That stipulated a ship to be chartered for 42 days capable of carrying 989 standard 20-foot containers from Sunny Point, North Carolina to Ashdod. The tender document said the vessel had to be capable of “carrying 5.8 million pounds (2.6 million kg) of net explosive weight,” which specialist brokers said was a very large quantity.

In September, the U.S. Congress approved the sale of 1,000 bunker-buster missiles to Israel. The GPS-guided GBU-39 is said to be one of the most accurate bombs in the world. The Jerusalem Post, citing defense officials, reported last week that a first shipment of the missiles had arrived in early December and they were used in penetrating Hamas’s underground rocket launcher sites

Rudderless Invasions: Wasted Lives and Opportunities

Guest Post by Temporal who blogs at Baithak

A Palestinian woman with severe facial injuries from a Dime bombIsrael has agreed to another unilateral ceasefire – like Sharon did in Lebanon – to be broken at will some time in the future.

The costs are well known:

  • Over 1200 dead Palestinians a majority of them civilians.
  • Billions of dollars worth of infrastructure destroyed
  • US arms used
  • Banned substances used
  • It failed in its state objective to crush Hamas

Israel was facing demands for war crimes investigations as it declared a unilateral ceasefire in Gaza last night after a 22-day assault in which more than 1,200 Palestinians, a third of them children, were killed and 13 Israelis died. Erik Fosse, a Norwegian doctor who worked in Gaza’s hospitals during the conflict, said that Israel was using so-called Dime (dense inert metal explosive) bombs designed to produce an intense explosion in a small space. The bombs are packed with tungsten powder, which has the effect of shrapnel but often dissolves in human tissue, making it difficult to discover the cause of injuries. Raymond Whitaker

Jewish Rabbi confesses “Israel should not exist” – Fox News pulls video

Neil Cavouto's Fox Interview with RabbiFOX’s Neil Cavuto conducted probably what was perhaps a very significant interview in 2006 where Neil Cavuto asks whether Israel should exist and Rabbi Yisroel Weiss from Jews United Against Zionism tells him, and the world, Mideast violence would stop if Israel ceased to exist.

The interesting part in all this controversial interview is that FOX News has since then pulled down the video which shows as a blank page on their site, the video is now accessible only on Youtube. Might the Fox News slogan be better reworded from We Report, You Decide – to We Report, We Decide

Palestine is Still the Issue – a video documentary by John Pilger

John Pilger a journalist has produced this video highlighting the Palestinian issue. John Pilger produced a video titled “Palestine Is Still The Issue” which has never been aired in 25 years due to the sensitive nature of it ‘being the voice for the Palestinians’, The video is definitely A MUST WATCH video and would request everyone to forward this as widely as possible, let no one be spared of an opportunity to see the truth

John Pilger starts the video with the following introduction

Twenty-five years ago, I made a film called Palestine Is Still The Issue. It was about a nation of people – the Palestinians – forced off their land and later subjected to a military occupation by Israel. An occupation condemned by the United Nations and almost every country in the world, including Britain. But Israel is backed by a very powerful friend, the United States. So in 25 years, if we’re to speak of the great injustice here, nothing has changed. What has changed is that the Palestinians have fought back.

Stateless and humiliated for so long, they’ve risen up against Israel’s huge military machine, although they themselves have no arm, no tanks, no American planes and gun ships or missiles. Some have committed desperate acts of terror, like suicide bombing. But for Palestinians, the overriding, routine terror, day after day, has been the ruthless control of almost every aspect of their lives, as if they live in an open prison. This film is about the Palestinians and a group of courageous Israelis united in the oldest human struggle – to be free.

Venezuela expels Israeli envoy over Gaza ‘Holocaust’

Hugo ChavezIt was heartening to read that the Venezuelan government on Tuesday ordered the expulsion of Israel’s ambassador to Caracas in protest to the Israeli military’s offensive in the Gaza Strip. President Hugo Chavez called the events in Gaza a Palestinian “holocaust” and said the presidents of Israel and the United States should be tried for war crimes in international court. “The Holocaust, that is what is happening right now in Gaza,” Chavez said in televised comments. “The president of Israel at this moment should be taken to the International Criminal Court together with the President of the United States.”

I have always loved Hugo Chavez and his bold statement against the American hegemony specially his speech at the UN where he called George Bush a devil.

It is good to see Venezuela highlight this crisis but ironically various neighboring Muslim countries are still not ready to play hard ball, in outright condemnation of Israel for the fear of upsetting the American war lords.
